Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 1124: Chapter 635: Self-Inflicted Trouble (2)

However, Zhou Yun initially thought the afternoon rehearsal would be simple, but it turned out to be full of issues.

In fact, when there are more people, trouble is more likely to arise.

During the poetry recitation section, six actors took the stage, each having only four or five lines.

Zhou Yun ended up with one extra line, and it was this line that caused a problem.

”Director, why is my recitation part shorter than Zhou Yun’s?” The first to ask was Yao Xing, a seasoned movie queen with over twenty years in the industry. She had not only won best actress awards but also top television awards, though she hadn’t starred in any shows recently, she was once very popular.

Even though she hasn’t been in any dramas recently, she never left the public’s sight. She’s been very active in variety shows, and people appreciate her straightforwardness. Her classic roles have also left a deep impression, giving her a warm filter in the audience’s eyes.

The director explained that it was divided according to the poem’s content, and Zhou Yun’s part naturally had one extra line based on that.

Yao Xing was not satisfied and was quite annoyed: ”Do you think that just because the rest of us aren’t popular, this young girl Zhou Yun is, you give her one more line?”

The director didn’t expect Yao Xing to press so hard, and awkwardly wiped his forehead, saying, ”Of course not, everyone here is a great actor; we didn’t invite guests based on popularity. But this poem really can’t be perfectly divided by the number of lines, it’s not even.”

”If it can’t be even, then you should give the longest part to Teacher Chen Qiran,” Yao Xing said.

Chen Qiran was the oldest among the six in the poetry performance.

Chen Qiran shook his hand, saying, ”No need, Yao Xing, let’s just follow the director’s arrangement.”

Yao Xing frowned, ”Teacher Chen, I’m not trying to cause trouble, but this isn’t right. I’m not targeting Zhou Yun, but she’s the youngest among us six, yet the most important part is given to her. Isn’t this turning things upside down? Zhou Yun might be very popular now, but can she represent the highest standard of our actors?”

The others heard and remained silent.

Zhou Yun felt a bit awkward.

She stood to the side, silent.

The director looked at Zhou Yun.

Receiving the director’s gaze, Zhou Yun said, ”Director, if you need to make adjustments, I’m fully willing to cooperate.”

The director breathed a sigh of relief, just about to speak, when Yao Xing suddenly glared at Zhou Yun, saying, ”What do you mean by that? Are you implying I’m not cooperating?”

Zhou Yun replied calmly, ”That’s not what I meant.”

”Then why say you’re cooperating fully?”

”What else should I say? That I’m not cooperating?” Zhou Yun countered, ”I didn’t decide the division. I received the task the director gave me. Either I cooperate or I don’t; what do you expect from me?”

Yao Xing was a bit aggravated, ”What’s with your attitude?”

Zhou Yun took a deep breath.

Chen Qiran stepped in to mediate: ”You two stop arguing, it’s just a small thing, one more or one less line, is that so important?”

Yao Xing: ”I just can’t stand this trend of hyping who’s popular now. Back in our day, the industry was all about seniority.”

Zhou Yun’s expression turned cold, asking the director, ”Director, excuse me, this matter was supposed to have nothing to do with me, but now I’m involved. Could you please explain to everyone how the poetry recitation parts were allocated? Did I request you to give me extra lines?”

The director shook his head repeatedly, ”Of course not, no...”

”Glad to hear that,” Zhou Yun said, ”I was really afraid of being misunderstood, that word might spread that I was disrespecting my seniors and seizing lines.”

The other actors maintained their silence, opting to stay out of the fray.

They’re all seasoned players, and no one wanted to get involved in this mess.

The director had no choice but to play the mediator between both sides.

Zhou Yun wasn’t really upset, she just used this stance to preemptively avoid unnecessary rumors.

The truly upset one was Yao Xing.

She told the director, ”If you don’t respect us veteran actors, you might as well make this poetry recitation a solo performance. Why are we even here?”

Zhou Yun listened, feeling quite speechless.

This person’s ability to twist the narrative was really something.

Zhou Yun pondered for a while, feeling that what she said earlier couldn’t be faulted, and if she hadn’t spoken up, it might just seem like she could be easily bullied.
