Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 1119: Chapter 633: Blessed by Fortune (3)

Kang Xin said, ”Xiao Yun, I’m a director, and I probably shouldn’t be saying this, but I’ve known you for quite a while now, and you have a tremendous amount of energy. I don’t know where you’ll end up in the future, but you’ve already reached a position that hardly anyone else has. I mean to say, don’t follow Song Chi’s example.”

”He’s a particularly proud person. Because of his pride, he has missed a lot of opportunities. Hollywood used to repeatedly offer him scripts, inviting him to act, but he rejected them all because he didn’t want to play supporting roles in Hollywood. I understand his mindset and his pride, but his refusal has led to consequences. Now Hollywood thinks he doesn’t want to go abroad to make films anymore, and they won’t consider him even for suitable roles. I’ve talked with production and distribution companies in the United States; they’re quite proud themselves. Since you’ve consistently shown disinterest, they won’t consider you anymore. Their focus has shifted to others.”

”You’re fortunate that your films have significant global influence. Whether it’s ’Life’ or ’Behind the Scenes,’ they’ve been recognized at film festivals by cinema people from various countries, something many people don’t encounter in their lifetime. Speaking privately between us, I won’t sugarcoat my words; your luck is truly extraordinary. Of course, your acting skills are indeed exceptional. However, you also know that many talented actors with great works don’t actually have such good opportunities due to various reasons. I’m not saying you must participate in these PR activities, but I feel you seem a bit resistant?”

Kang Xin’s words seemed to hit Zhou Yun like a hammer on the head.

Before this, no one had spoken to her so frankly about this.

Does she resist participating in PR activities in the United States?

If she says yes, it’s not quite right; if she says no, that’s not accurate either.

Zhou Yun understands her own thoughts best, but she didn’t expect Kang Xin to have such a keen eye, noticing it at a glance.

Even Zhou Lan didn’t see it.

Actually, she knows she’s been influenced by Song Chi.

As China’s most representative actress now, why should she play a supporting role in Hollywood?

Her pride is held high here.

If ’Killing Song’ didn’t have a female role as the lead protagonist, would she have accepted?

Probably not.

Zhou Yun knows exactly what choice she’ll make.

There’s no need to think too much about it.

”Director, I’m not actually very resistant, I’m just...” Zhou Yun paused.

”You just don’t want to be seen as too utilitarian, chasing awards through continuous PR activities? Or is it because the more others value those awards, the more you subconsciously want to prove you don’t care about them?”

Director Kang Xin’s words were like a sharp blow, hitting the nail on the head.

Zhou Yun’s mindset was precisely pinpointed by Kang Xin.

Zhou Yun instinctively wanted to deny it, but then realized that denying in front of Kang Xin was pointless.

”Alright, Director, you’re right,” she conceded.

Kang Xin chuckled, ”I just want to say, don’t refuse to step onto the global stage.”

Zhou Yun asked, ”Is it okay to be underestimated by others?”

”On the path to greater heights, what does being underestimated matter? After all, they will eventually look up to you again.”

Kang Xin’s voice had a strange calming power.

He is an elder and a wise man, speaking in a patient manner, entirely considering these issues for the benefit of the younger generation.

Perhaps because of this, Zhou Yun felt no impatience from being guided, as the other person was sincerely looking out for her.

”I often tell young people, having pride is a good thing; pride keeps you principled, but don’t let pride cause delays,” Kang Xin said, ”I’m not saying Song Chi’s previous choices were wrong; he might have better opportunities in the future. However, some opportunities, once missed, are truly gone forever.”

Zhou Yun replied, ”Director, I understand what you’ve said. Don’t worry; I will make sure to seize the opportunities that deserve attention. You mentioned my reluctance to participate in those PR activities, and indeed, the environment is different at home and abroad. They openly acknowledge the role of PR to make themselves visible. Yet here, we value winning based on strength, fearing accusations of favoritism, secrecy, or moral shortcomings. I do have many concerns. Honestly, I wasn’t very proactive this time because we didn’t expect to get nominated for a major award. The Golden Ball nomination was completely unexpected for me, and for the production company. We don’t know how we got it. From the preliminary conditions, I had no chance. It was sheer luck.”

Kang Xin laughed, ”Haven’t you realized? When it comes to winning awards, you’re truly blessed with good fortune.”
