Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 1103: Chapter 628: The Long Phone Call (Part 2)

She really thought Lew Qingqing and Yu Wenzhou were together.

It’s not surprising.

An Actress and a director being together.

Zhou Lan: ”This kind of hype, in my opinion, is too unethical. Sometimes, creating a CP image or spreading rumors between male and female leads is just hype, but Lew Qingqing and Yu Wenzhou are blatantly deceiving people, even openly holding hands.”

”Lew Qingqing... why would she do this? The data for ’Heart Palpitating’ is very popular, she’s back in the spotlight. She could leverage this momentum to shoot a few more shows. With her past foundation, it wouldn’t be difficult for her to return to her previous status. Why make such a big sacrifice?”

”Announcing it at this time is probably to give ’Heart Palpitating’ another push. ’Dragon Ascending’ and ’Linjiang Immortal’ have too many topics. ’Heart Palpitating’ is more niche, no matter how popular, its range cannot compare to the other two. By hyping like this, Lew Qingqing can both attract more attention to ’Heart Palpitating’ and increase her own topic presence significantly,” Zhou Lan said. ”Her acting in ’Heart Palpitating’ is excellent. Unfortunately, it’s a web drama and can’t compete for TV awards. It can only boost its reputation during its broadcast.”

”But it’s a pity that due to the subject of the drama, Lew Qingqing herself hasn’t gained much benefit,” Zhou Lan concluded. ”The popularity of the character she plays isn’t very high.”

”Hmm, why?” Zhou Yun was curious.

”Because the character’s design isn’t great. I see comments online, she’s repeatedly having a Holy Mother outbreak, which makes the audience very annoyed,” Zhou Lan replied. ”You know how it is, actors and characters are always linked. The more the audience likes a role, this liking often projects onto the actor portraying her, and the same goes for dislike.”

”Uh.”

”Actually, in today’s film and TV environment, even playing a real villain is better than playing a morally flawed good person. As a villain, audiences don’t have high expectations from the start, but for a positive character, if she has moral flaws, it causes disappointment, and people attack collectively. Whether it’s having a bad temper, being inconsistent, or having double standards, the character must be perfect and intelligent, able to turn the tide in difficult situations; you can’t have slightly low intelligence.”

”Hahaha.” Zhou Yun laughed.

”You know, one day I saw an anecdote online. Actually, it wasn’t even an anecdote; it was real. Someone on Douban asked why anyone would sympathize with Anna Karenina, a woman who cheated in marriage and abandoned her husband and child,” Zhou Lan sighed.

”People who ask such questions are showing that they’re living happy lives, which is nice,” Zhou Yun smiled. ”At least they’ve never experienced Anna’s misfortunes. Isn’t it said that all happy families are alike, but each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way? Many people just can’t understand others’ misfortunes.”

”I was thinking today, how many people will understand Chen Yin’s misfortune?”

”Isn’t Chen Yin’s misfortune easier to understand than Anna’s?” Zhou Yun said with a smile. ”But you’re right; Chen Yin is at least someone without moral flaws, more of a perfect victim, likely gaining a lot of audience sympathy.”

”We can discuss this all we want, but when I select scripts for you, I still can’t choose those with fatal character problems,” Zhou Lan shrugged. ”We have no choice. This is the current situation. When we can’t change it, we must protect ourselves first.”

”Sister Lan, I understand your point, but let’s not become people who completely go with the flow, okay?” Zhou Yun said. ”I’m not saying we must go against the environment, but—”

”Xiao Yun, I understand, I get it, and that’s enough,” Zhou Lan replied.

The two of them have argued many times about what kind of films to shoot and what kind of actors to be. Ultimately, after repeated debates, they fully understand each other’s perspectives.

Zhou Yun often ponders her luck in meeting an agent like Zhou Lan.

Perhaps some people don’t understand why she feels so grateful.

In the eyes of many, especially Zhou Yun’s fans, it seems that her agent doesn’t play such a significant role.
