Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 1105: Chapter 629: ”Chen Yin” Cast Dinner

Zhou Yun spends basically every day on the filming set.

Actually, she doesn’t need to shoot every scene, but she’s used to staying on set to maintain her character’s feel.

The other actors in this drama have gradually joined the group and started the script readings.

The script readings are organized by the acting coach, and Kang Xin occasionally drops by to check it out; most of the time, he’s directing on set.

The first ten days of filming revolved around Jiang Yuzhen’s character.

She has another movie waiting for her to start filming, and the schedule is particularly tight.

As a veteran actress, Jiang Yuzhen thought this role wouldn’t be too demanding. At her level, serious effort should yield high-quality performances.

However, Kang Xin’s requirements were extremely high, and he didn’t ease up on Jiang Yuzhen, further raising his expectations for her.

The phrase Jiang Yuzhen said most to Zhou Yun was that she didn’t expect to still feel so much pressure at her age while filming.

She meant the pressure of not knowing if her acting matched what the director wanted.

Generally speaking, a mature actor has long developed their own methodology and aesthetic for character creation, and Jiang Yuzhen is no exception, but it clearly still didn’t meet Kang Xin’s standards.

Kang Xin’s demands were higher.

The fact that he, with all his experience, still attempts a genre like ”Chen Yin,” which he’s never tackled before, shows he’s never satisfied.

He always wants better.

Although Jiang Yuzhen frequently complained to Zhou Yun, Zhou Yun could also tell that Jiang Yuzhen really enjoyed the current state of filming.

No actor wants their performance to fall into a flat, unchanging state.

But many seasoned actors may be constrained by the roles they can get or some personal limitations. They realize they’ve gone too long without breakthroughs and that their acting has become instinctive, yet they struggle to change this.

That’s why actors long to work with great directors.

Different directors can bring out different facets of an actor.

Some actors may seem mediocre elsewhere, but under a particular director’s lens, they suddenly turn magical.

Zhou Yun did not participate in the script readings; she’s been staying on set.

Kang Xin found it strange and asked her why.

Zhou Yun said, ”Watching you direct teaches me a lot. I previously always looked at how to act from an actor’s perspective. Now, after watching Yuzhen’s performance and hearing your feedback, seeing the changes in her performance from beginning to end, I find it fascinating.”

Hearing this, Kang Xin laughed and asked, ”Have you ever thought about becoming a director?”

Zhou Yun immediately shook her head and said, ”I have no such plans, at least not for the coming years. I enjoy the sensation and immersion of playing another character, but being a director... to be honest, I don’t think I’m cut out for it.”

”I think if you have the right opportunity, you could give it a try.”

”Give it a try?” Zhou Yun shook her head. ”If I were just afraid of not doing well but still interested in directing, I might give it a shot. But I have no inclination at all, so I think it’s best not to try.”

Kang Xin was somewhat surprised by Zhou Yun’s words.

”I didn’t expect you genuinely didn’t want to do it. Many actors, after being in the field for a long time, have things they want to express. You know, when there’s a conflict between an actor’s and a director’s opinions, the actor usually has to listen to the director. Plus, not all directors’ styles are easy to accept.”

”Yes,” Zhou Yun nodded. ”However, I’m quite fortunate. The directors I’ve encountered have all respected my views. Also, I’m not the kind of person who insists on my own ideas. If I think performing based on A is better and you tell me to perform based on B, I will wonder why B is preferred. Once you explain your thoughts, as long as I understand, it’s fine. Of course, there are times I can’t understand, and sometimes even directors can’t articulate what they want; they just have a gut feeling or sense that my performance isn’t hitting the mark. I have no problem with that; I actually enjoy exploring this indescribable state with the director until we find what they truly want.”
