My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2191: Chapter 2024: Discernment

I remember when I first met her, everything was so beautiful. That was the first time I truly understood what love at first sight meant!

Zhang Zhentian knew everything his son had said was true, but his whole life, he had only ever thought of loving like this. We love once, and hoped to wholeheartedly love Xia Jing.

He felt that in a person’s lifetime, to find someone who truly loves you is not easy. Even though the one he loved did not have him in her heart, if only he could love her, then why should it matter?

If one always prioritizes efficiency, always wonders if others will reciprocate, always thinks that their efforts might earn them gratitude from others.

If that is truly the case, then what is the meaning of living in this world? If life is just about making transactions to feel good, then how would one find true love? Others would just see your efforts as a transaction, so why would they choose to be with you?

”Child, everyone sees things from different angles. You shouldn’t try to force your thoughts into my mind because that is unrealistic. If my heart is truly set on loving her, no matter what anyone says, nothing you decide will change anything. Give up on that notion.

After all, she is your mother.

The least respect you can show your mother should still be there. Whatever I have with her is between us and has nothing to do with you. Live your life peacefully. Why entangle yourself in this? You will only make everyone think you are extraordinary. Doing so will not earn you any good outcomes or praise!”

Zhang Yichen felt he was about to be infuriated to death by his father. He did everything for his father’s sake. Why, in his father’s eyes, was everything he did wrong? Was it that he was truly that unreasonable?

All he wanted was for the family to live in peace, for his mother to see how much his father loved her, so she might be touched and come to love him back, even if just a little.

But in his father’s eyes, his efforts were just unnecessary acts, and his father would never thank him for them. Instead, he thought he was meddling too much.

”Do whatever you want. I will no longer interfere in your affairs, nor will I ask. You can do as you please with my mother. I was wholeheartedly trying to help you, yet you think I am harming you!

No matter how much resentment or complaint I have against you, I would never harm you because you are my father. I am dissatisfied with my mother, but I never wanted this matter to cause conflicts between you two!

You underestimate me. Do I not even have the basic principles of a person? Just because you’ve abandoned me, does that mean everything I do should be out of revenge?

Revenge is not my intention. I will not harbor revenge in any matter. If I wanted to retaliate against you, it wouldn’t be as simple as your mere quarrels. Some things I don’t mention doesn’t mean I can tolerate them. Time and again, you wrong me. In your eyes, what am I really? You unjustly accuse me without ever considering what my heart truly desires.

No matter how much wrong you’ve done to me, I will not retaliate. My years of education wouldn’t go to waste. I have arduously forced myself to the pinnacle of life. Why would I ruin my life’s prospects just because of you?

Just to retaliate for your momentary impulsiveness, would I gamble my life’s happiness and fate on that? I’m not a fool; I won’t do that because it’s just not worth it!

When I decided to tell you this today, yet you heartlessly doubt that I am harming you, once I turn away, I will no longer concern myself with you. Do whatever you like; it has no impact on me!

Because there is no longer any connection between us, I just want you to clearly know some things should be done, some things shouldn’t. Some things should be done, and others cannot be condoned. Since you’ve made such a decision today, then don’t blame others for not reciprocating in the future.”

Having said that, Zhang Yichen truly turned and left. He felt if he stayed any longer, he might suffocate. He had kindly wanted to help his father, but why, in his father’s eyes, did it seem like he was only trying to harm him?

Did he really appear so menacing that everyone who saw him had to flee?

Xia Jing knew her son was about to come out, so she quickly turned away.

She mustn’t let her child know she heard everything from outside the door. If so, her son’s opinions of her might worsen, though she knew he meant no harm in what he said. Yet in her eyes, her heart still felt a faint ache.

After all, he was her son. Why did he hold such a big prejudice against her?

In her son’s eyes, she appeared to be nothing more than a heinous mother. To him, no matter what she did, it was of no use, never a right decision. But why was it that her life had made her child truly hold such prejudice?

Upon hearing her husband’s words to her son, her heart was filled with unhappiness.

She treated her husband this way, yet he defended her numerous times, refuting others when they spoke ill of her in his presence.

Was her heart truly incapable of opening slightly to him?

If she slightly opened her heart, even putting him in her heart just a little, would the outcome be entirely different then? What every man desires is simply the genuine love of their wife, not constantly thinking of another man. This is incredibly cruel and heartless to an individual.

Perhaps she should really learn to embrace him, otherwise when he truly turns away, she might realize what she lost in this life. If that day truly comes, won’t it be too late?

Perhaps the world is fair, forcing oneself to let go of things they would never want to give up in a lifetime, to accept a reality they can never embrace...

But now, everything has changed; no one knows what we’ve been through, nor will anyone care about how we’ve become this way, due to whose influence!
