Reunions are rare, but why do you choose to leave just when I haven’t had the chance to confess my love for you?

Li Jiayuan originally wanted to rest at home for a day, then go shopping with Xia Jing the next day. But now, in this state, how could she go out to find Xia Jing? If she had known, she’d never have gone for hotpot!

Li Jiayuan really regretted it now. Why on earth did she have to eat hotpot?

Xiao Wei watched Li Jiayuan looking gloomy on the side and couldn’t help but ask, ”Jiayuan, what’s wrong? Don’t be upset, it’s just not going out, right? At worst, we’ll just stay home, which is actually quite nice too!”

Li Jiayuan was already in a bad mood because she couldn’t go out. She finally decided not to be angry, but then Xiao Wei brought it up again, and Li Jiayuan suddenly exploded, ”Xiao Wei, do you even dare bring it up? I wanted to eat hotpot, why didn’t you stop me? Not going out sounds easy enough for you to say. Do you know I already arranged with Elder Sister Xia to go out shopping? And now, like this, how am I supposed to go out?”

Xiao Wei finally understood. So Li Jiayuan was this angry because she couldn’t go shopping?

”Hey, hey, you get it straight. You insisted on going, I didn’t force you to eat. Now you want to blame me? Admit it, you insisted on going. If I were holding a knife to your throat forcing you, then you could blame me, but you can’t just blame me for everything, can you? Isn’t that the truth?” Xiao Wei was genuinely speechless at Li Jiayuan. How could it be this way—she was clearly in the wrong, and didn’t she see that and tried to push the blame onto others?

Li Jiayuan was instantly unhappy when Xiao Wei said that. She frowned and said to Xiao Wei, ”Are you a man or not? Why couldn’t you just concede a little? I’m your wife, do you have to win against me? Besides, even if this is my fault, can’t you just say it’s yours to make me happy? Who does that, can you not please a woman...”

”Ha~ so you’re saying I shouldn’t say it’s your fault? Li Jiayuan, you’re my wife, yes, but that doesn’t mean you can avoid admitting you did something wrong. Tell me, whose fault is this? You’re saying I can’t please a woman, let me tell you, if I knew how to, there wouldn’t be a shortage of women chasing me!”

Xiao Wei got angrier as he spoke. Honestly, what kind of logic is this? You do something wrong, someone has to make you happy and blame themselves? Xiao Wei just couldn’t do that.

Li Jiayuan listened to the first part of Xiao Wei’s words and could let it slide, as she knew it really wasn’t Xiao Wei’s fault. She had wanted to go eat; even if Xiao Wei tried to stop her, he couldn’t have. So she knew she couldn’t blame him. But the latter part upset her. What did he mean by ”there wouldn’t be a shortage of women chasing him”?

Xiao Wei, you better explain yourself, what did you mean by that earlier?” Li Jiayuan asked Xiao Wei anxiously.

Xiao Wei had said so much at once, how was he supposed to know what exactly he said?

”What did I say? I just said so much, how would I know what you’re referring to?” Xiao Wei looked helplessly at Li Jiayuan.

Xiao Wei truly didn’t know which part Li Jiayuan was referring to, whereas she thought he was deliberately teasing her, which made her quite displeased.

Already upset about not being able to go out, now being spoken to like that by Xiao Wei was pushing the limits: ”Xiao Wei, have you forgotten? Let me remind you, who just said, ’If I knew how to please a woman, there wouldn’t be a shortage of women chasing me’? Those words were yours, weren’t they?”

”Oh~ so you’re talking about that. Why didn’t you say so earlier? Had you said that sooner, you wouldn’t be this angry, wouldn’t you agree?”

Li Jiayuan looked at Xiao Wei’s half-smiling face and felt odd. Why are you looking at me like that?

”Hey, why are you looking at me like that? I’m really confused. Is it that now in Dad’s eyes, the child in my belly is more important? Am I, as his daughter, less important?” Li Jiayuan couldn’t be bothered to continue arguing over whose fault it was with Xiao Wei. She wanted to understand if being his own child was less than a grandchild?

Li Jiayuan thought of what Li Haixiao had said to her and felt a bit sad. Why had she, who had always been Dad’s most beloved, suddenly become less important than her child?

While Li Jiayuan was concerning herself with who was more important, Xia Jing was different!

Xia Jing once felt a bit imbalanced over the same kind of issue like Li Jiayuan. But she later came to terms with it, realizing that Zhang Zhentian had given up the company for her, while the Zhang Corporation was Old Master Zhang’s lifelong effort. So it was normal for him to value her child. Who would want to see their painstakingly built legacy simply vanish? So Xia Jing didn’t mind Old Master Zhang not allowing her outside anymore. Instead, she felt quite relieved, thinking her current priority was taking good care of herself and having a healthy baby boy!

After thinking things over, Xia Jing called Li Jiayuan. Seeing it was Xia Jing calling, Li Jiayuan felt a moment of happiness but then was bummed again about not being able to go out.

”Hello, Sis, what’s up?” Li Jiayuan answered Xia Jing rather unenthusiastically.

Xia Jing was startled by Jiayuan’s tone.

”Jiayuan, did something happen? You don’t seem too happy!” Xia Jing’s sensitivity did not fail her.

”Sis, I can’t come out and go shopping with you!” Li Jiayuan sighed and said to Xia Jing.

”Why’s that?”

”Xiao Wei and I went for hotpot, and my dad found out. He said I wasn’t considering the child’s health and going for hotpot, so he restricted me...”

”Oh, so that’s it. Don’t worry, Jiayuan, look at me. I stay at home every day, don’t I?”

Li Jiayuan couldn’t understand why Xia Jing seemed so content. Is staying home really happiness?

”I just don’t get it; is the child really more important than me in my dad’s eyes?” Jiayuan spoke to Xia Jing.

”Jiayuan, your thinking is wrong. I won’t lie, I once had the same thought— is the child more important than my freedom? But later, it dawned on me. Zhentian gave up the company for me, but the Zhang Corporation is Dad’s lifetime of effort. Of course, he wants someone to inherit what he painstakingly built. Isn’t that right?”

Li Jiayuan thought about it and saw the logic. She said, ”You’re right. But why does my dad have to be like that too?”

”Jiayuan, our situations are nearly the same. Think about it, didn’t your dad recently get hospitalized?”

”Yes!”

”Did you ever think that your dad might be worried about not getting to see your child grow up? He may want to spend several more years, maybe tens of years, with your child, right?

Your dad is simply transferring his love for you onto your child. But that doesn’t mean his love for you has changed. Sometimes looking from a different perspective can simplify matters considerably. So you should be understanding of your dad’s good intentions, instead of giving him a hard time just because he grounded you. You need to realize, he is your father. You’re still young, but what about him? He’s already past fifty; how many years could he have left to live?

Rather than spending time questioning his love, you should do more for him, wouldn’t you agree?” Xia Jing earnestly persuaded Li Jiayuan. She had figured it all out, and now that Jiayuan faced a similar issue, she rightly felt she should assist her, ensuring no strife occurred between Li Jiayuan and Li Haixiao over an unborn child!

Layer after layer, stripping down my true heart for you, but I am not a god, I’m just human. I can’t watch as you become this version that I can’t accept.
