My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2158: Chapter 1991: Unbearable

When the song has yet to end, people are already dispersed.

Ran Zhihan heard her grandfather calling her from behind, and her heart felt incredibly painful. But she couldn’t turn back on this matter. This situation was originally caused by her husband lying to her, so why should she bear the consequences? She shouldn’t have to shoulder the responsibilities for someone else’s mistake!

Zhang Yichen heard his grandfather shouting his wife’s name downstairs from upstairs, feeling uneasy about the situation. When he hurriedly rushed down, he found the living room empty of people except his grandfather sitting there, lost in thought.

”Grandfather, where is Zhihan?” Zhang Yichen asked Old Master Zhang.

”Your wife has already left. You don’t have to ask me anymore, and don’t try to justify your lies to her. Now that she has left this home, are you satisfied? If it weren’t for the things you said to her, how could she have left so resolutely? You just got married and have forced your wife to leave home. Do you think such a thing, if spread, would be good for the honor of our family? Yichen, I watched you grow up, and I believe you are essentially a kind-hearted person. But you really shouldn’t have acted this way; it only pushes away the woman you love most. Trust between people is mutual, just like respect is mutual. If you don’t trust your wife, how can she trust you? How can she regard her husband as an upright person after you lied to her? From the beginning, it was wrong to act this way. Just like your wife told me, if you truly trust your wife, what could possibly be a secret from her? Because you kept things from her, she has now left home. You were just married, and your wife moved out of her in-laws’ house to live elsewhere on the second day of your marriage. How do you think people outside will talk about our family?”

Zhang Yichen listened to his grandfather saying the same things over and over again, feeling deeply uncomfortable. It’s just a simple, small matter, why does all the blame have to fall on me? Maybe it’s because she’s overly sensitive, what does that have to do with me? Do I have to comfort her just because she doesn’t feel like it?

”Grandfather, if she’s left, let her leave. If she has me in her heart, I believe she wouldn’t leave me. But now that she’s gone, it’s proven that my most beloved woman doesn’t have only me in her heart. Maybe my wife has someone else in her heart; when she left, she never thought of me still as her husband, or us as a legal couple. If she wants to leave so badly, then let her go! Once she’s gone, she shouldn’t come back. Wherever she wants to go, let her go. I won’t care about her anymore in the future...”

How unexpected it is that his body is so unfeeling. This is his wife, yet he dislikes his wife enough to say such heartless words. Is this the child I raised myself? He could hardly believe that the person sitting in front of him is the one he painstakingly brought up!

”Yichen, how could you become like this now? Is this what Grandfather taught you before, to live like this? Don’t you know that this will hurt Grandfather deeply? I never thought the grandson I raised with great effort would be this kind of person. Initially, I believed my grandson to be very kind-hearted and upright, but I never imagined you would drive your wife away over such a small matter, making her unable to return. Is this truly how you feel in your heart? Didn’t you love your wife so much? How can you bear to let her walk down a desolate street alone, leaving home? Sometimes, not placing so much importance on certain things is better; her leaving home like this is because you deceived her. She regarded you as her closest companion, hoping that you two could face each other honestly. But you lied to her on the first day of your marriage, how do you expect her to accept that?”

”I did this just because I wanted her to be with me. Is that wrong? I just agreed to forget all the little things she requested, wanting her to be with me for life. Is that really wrong?” Zhang Yichen questioned Old Master Zhang.

”Child, have you not understood what Grandfather meant? It’s not that you can’t act that way, and it’s not that you were wrong for doing so. Even though you had reasons, but you shouldn’t say such things to your wife on your wedding day. How should she accept this, after just marrying the man she loves most and then having him set such conditions? From what I observed, she cares for you deeply because she cares and doesn’t want to be part of a transaction between you and your parents—truly loving you. Why can’t you appreciate your wife’s heartfelt intentions? She genuinely wishes that you two could walk hand in hand for life, hoping you two could create your own world together. But you made such choices that hurt her deeply, how does your wife’s heart feel now? Originally, this was between you two, and Grandfather doesn’t meddle, but I must say that you drove your wife out, and is your heart content? Is your mind at peace? I can see that you also care about her deeply. If you both care about each other so much, why do you do such things to hurt each other’s hearts? Do you think such actions are justified? Watching your beloved walk away, doesn’t your heart have even a trace of ache?”

”Grandfather, actually my demands aren’t much; I just hope my wife can understand me more. But when she determinedly left the Zhang Family, I found perhaps her heart isn’t as full of love for me as I imagined; perhaps forcing her to stay by my side was a mistake too...”

Once again walking through the bustling streets, how unbearable the end of love looks!
