My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2169: Chapter 2002: Unforgettable

I don’t know where my audience is, so I must swallow my bitterness alone, hollowed out by love like a soulless clown.

”I’ve just made it very clear to your family, everyone’s choice is different. If your son chooses to sleep for a lifetime, to lie on a hospital bed for life unable to move, then no one can wake him unless he himself wants to wake up and see everyone in this world who cares about him. Of course, as you just said, his finger moved, which indeed cannot rule out the possibility of his awakening, but the chances are extremely slim. Honestly, clinically, very few people sleep this long and then naturally wake up, such cases are rare. Generally, if such a person does not fully awaken within a stipulated time, even if they wake up later, they will have their practice certificate revoked and have to retake the professional exam. But Mr. Zhang’s situation is different; he doesn’t need any practice certificate, and he doesn’t need to take any professional exams, so his choice is not difficult. He can choose to sleep forever or choose when to wake up; it all depends on the thoughts in his heart. If he truly hopes to wake up, then he certainly will, but if he is afraid of awakening and facing some cruel and heartbreaking things, he will choose to lock his heart away, choosing never to wake up, because dreams are never painful, while reality is always filled with hurt. Everyone understands this principle, and I believe as family members you also understand...”

”You two should stop making it difficult for the doctor. The doctor has made it very clear. Whether your son can wake up still depends on fate. If he recovers well, we might even be able to discharge him. But if his recovery is a bit poor, then he will never be able to leave the hospital. Up until now, you’ve been through so much, I don’t know what you two have decided? Are you choosing to do what you love, or just completing a task?” Old Master Zhang asked Zhang Zhentian and Xia Jing.

”I don’t want to explain anything right now. I just hope it can bless my son to safely pass through the danger period. Today is already the second day. If he doesn’t wake up today, then he might really be lying on that hospital bed unable to move for life. Is my son really going to be ruined here for his entire life?” Xia Jing held Zhang Yichen’s hand and said, ”Son, please wake up soon. Do you know how worried your father and I are about you? You’ve been away for so long without giving us a call. Do you know we’ve been looking everywhere for you? It was all my fault before. I shouldn’t have done so many things that hurt you, always acting against you. Seeing you like this, I suddenly realized many things are not as easy as I imagined. Once decisions are made, regret from others is useless. When I saw you lying in that hospital bed, I realized that you’re also vulnerable, that you also fall ill and can’t move in a hospital. Only then did I understand I’ve given you too little love. All these years, I never accompanied you voluntarily to a hospital for a check-up, nor did I ever go with you for a treatment. But now I’ve realized, don’t find time every day to be with you, because being with your child is the greatest happiness. Haven’t you always wanted to be with the girl you love? I was always opposed to it, but now if you can wake up, I’ll agree to you being together because I don’t want to lose my precious son. Can you forgive mom? Let mom make up for these ten-plus years of neglect. I want to see you eat every day; I want to see you grow every day; I want to see you regain nutrition. That would be the greatest comfort to me as a mother. I never thought you’d end up like this following your father, until I couldn’t understand why we argued every night. After everything, mom finally realizes nothing is more important than you. I just wish for you to live well. Do you know how happy I was when you acknowledged me as mom? I waited over ten years for you to truly recognize me. But your calling me mom came too late, and then this happened shortly after our reunion. Son, return safely! As long as you return safely, I’ll do anything you ask. Whatever decisions you make afterward, I’ll support you unconditionally, even willing to die just so you could return safely...”

No one expected her to say such heart-wrenching words. In everyone’s mind, Xia Jing was always someone who only cared about her own interests, never considering what harm others might suffer because of that. But this time, surprisingly, she considered others’ feelings. Xia Jing didn’t selfishly treat others as she used to. Everyone present believed it was because her own son was ill that Xia Jing decided this way. But if it were someone else, would Xia Jing still have said this?

Perhaps it was Zhang Yichen who heard Xia Jing’s words because his finger moved again.

Even the doctor was stunned for a moment. No one expected that someone about to become a vegetative state could move his finger again. Could this really mean he’s about to wake up? It’s a monumental miracle in clinical practice; nobody can wake up this easily. But today, he witnessed the biggest miracle in clinical practice.

After the doctor conducted another comprehensive examination of Zhang Yichen, the ultimate result was that Zhang Yichen chose to fall back into slumber.

”Doctor, you saw just now, his finger did move. Does this mean he can really wake up now? Does he stand a chance?” Lei Jian asked.

”After assessments by several experts, we found that he didn’t choose to awaken—instead, he is about to fall into deeper slumber. His heart is entirely closed off; he doesn’t want to face the harsh realities, so he opts to continue sleeping. In his inner world, he won’t find sadness in anything!”

”We ask the family to prepare mentally for the possibility that he may never wake up again, although all his vital signs are normal, he has no autonomous breathing!”

The doctor finished speaking, then turned and left the ICU critical care unit, leaving Zhang Yichen’s family in the ICU, waiting. They could not believe this was the reality they were about to face, but had no choice but to accept it.

What’s left to accompany me is only an echo, chasing love until it turns to madness. Why reminisce about what cannot be forgotten? What’s left is me guarding alone. Unable to start and finish, everyone understands the logic but the heart lacks order!
