My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2177: Chapter 2010: Ashes

The whimsical dreams we once had, wanting to hold your hand and watch the sea together, but there are just too many obstacles between us.

I will never give up, even if it no longer holds meaning, as long as I believe there will always be miracles.

The father and son once again argued loudly at home over these matters. In fact, no one was wrong about this; the only fault was my overwhelming self-interest, causing my family to be hurt time and again by my selfishness.

”Others can receive forgiveness from their family for their mistakes, why can’t I? I admit I’ve done wrong and I know the mistakes I made are unforgivable in your hearts and leave you unbalanced, but can’t you forgive me just this once?”

”Just once? Are you sure this is the only mistake you’ve made? Do you think getting our forgiveness happened just once? Ask yourself how many wrongs you’ve done, how many bad things, causing heartbreak for your family and your son. Yet, in the end, didn’t we choose to forgive you because we see you as family and hold you in such high regard? But what about you, what feeling do you give us? Just because of your so-called personal desires, would you abandon the most important people at home? Do you really think your heart could bear it? Do you really not feel the pain? Sometimes I, as a father, truly don’t understand. Everyone says hearts are made of flesh and will hurt, that emotions aren’t one-way. But do your decisions really reflect that hearts can hurt? Can feelings become cold? Every single thing you did never considered the feelings of your family, you were always so selfish and self-centered. Don’t you know that selfishness in the end never brings a good result? Yet, why do you continue down this path obstinately?”

”Dad, ever since I was born, you should have known that my fate isn’t one I can choose. I failed to meet your expectations, failed to stay home and inherit, failed to achieve your expectations for the company and become the most useful person in the world. But my son has done it. He is more impressive than me, even surpassing you, he is much stronger than you, he accomplished it, he is the strongest person in the world, the most capable man in the world, and he even married the kindest and gentlest wife in the world.”

”Are you proud now that your son has achieved such accomplishments? But you could never guess how much your son sacrificed and endured to get here, how difficult each step was. You never saw it, never experienced it. He stepped forward step by step just to prove himself, to show his mom and dad that he is the most valuable, to make you regret abandoning him. When he achieved his greatest accomplishment, you came back, but what you brought wasn’t a warm hug, not an apology, not a greeting, but repeated heartbreak. Everything you did always ignored others’ feelings, thinking only about your own happiness. You think others’ happiness has nothing to do with you, but you never understood how much your family wishes for your happiness. As long as you’re happy, even if the family has to suffer or toil, it doesn’t matter. For your family, as long as the ones they care about live safely and happily, that’s enough. In your son’s heart, he doesn’t ask for his parents to love him greatly; he doesn’t ask for much. Only that his parents live happily, even if they never acknowledge him as their son. But how about you, how did you treat him? You used his love for you as repeated capital for hurting him. Haven’t you hurt him enough?”

”Dad, I’m sorry, I truly know my mistakes. I know everything I did was so selfish and self-serving, never considering the feelings of the people I care about and who love me. I always thought as long as I’m happy that’s enough; why should unrelated people have to care so much? They can’t even handle their own matters, what time do they have for mine? But I didn’t realize my dad still loves me this much, that my son still cares so much for his biological father, and even my daughter-in-law is the same. But I did so many things to hurt them, how can I face them? Every decision I made, why did they have to feel so much sadness, pain to the point of wanting to die, just because of my own interests, just because of desires I expressed, I abandoned the things I should have been protecting most.”

”Exactly, you’ve always done things so recklessly and willfully. Don’t you know how arrogant you seemed when doing things? But you didn’t know how many eyes were watching behind your back, just waiting eagerly for you to fall hard from your high ground. But you never understand how much your family cares about you, how they wished you could take every step steadily, secure in each step on the ground, not up on the fluffy clouds of the heavens which would only tire you more and more... You can never return home this lifetime because you’ve lost your chances. Recently, your wife once again got into trouble. I’m not sure if it was intentional, but I hope you properly investigate. If it was intentional, not even your son will forgive her, nor will I, as a father, ever forgive him. Each thing she did is truly beyond forgiveness, and once again hurt me, not to mention the hurt it caused between your son and daughter-in-law!”

The moment Zhang Zhentian heard his father say his wife was causing trouble again, he realized she had indeed returned. He felt a mix of joy and sorrow: joy that he could finally find his wife, and sorrow that perhaps, because of this, he and his wife might really never be together again.

”Alright, leave this matter to me, this selfish person, to thoroughly investigate. Once I’ve gotten to the bottom of it, I’ll let you know right away. Don’t look at me like that, I won’t hide anything from you. I won’t do things anymore that would make you never forgive me; rest assured!”

Give me the closest distance, without you I can’t breathe. No matter how much wind and rain there is, even if I turn to ashes, I’ll guard you here!
