My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2172: Chapter 2005: Whose Fault Is All This

I always thought all of this was just a simple change in everyone’s thinking, but in the end, I found that I had also changed.

”Do you honestly dare to say you have a clear conscience? Isn’t it true that everything you’ve done is unknown to us? When you shut your biological father and mother out, did you not think that one day you’ll be repaid for it? When you were doing these things, why didn’t you think about whether you’d have a clear conscience in the end? Although you dare to stand here now and righteously tell me that you have a clear conscience, what gives you the right to do so? Just because you’ve put our family in jeopardy?”

Zhang Yichen didn’t expect her father to speak about her like this; she felt truly hurt inside. She valued her father so much, yet why, in her father’s eyes, did she appear to be such a person?

”I don’t want to say anything. I just want to tell you one thing: a lot of times, it’s not that things stop existing because you say they don’t, or they exist because you say they do. You know in your heart what you have done, so why do you need others to point fingers at you? For every action you take, you bear the consequences yourself. Don’t entangle others in the aftermath. Don’t let others live in fear because of you. This is what a son or daughter should do, right?”

...

Old Master Zhang couldn’t stand the argument anymore between his grandson and son. He wondered why the two of them, father and son, ended up arguing so badly. What use is there fighting like this? Would this bickering really cover up what they had done in the past? Would arguing like this really hide one’s mistakes? Is it so naive to think that they can avoid the consequences of their errors by arguing?

”Neither of you needs to argue anymore. Do you think bickering like this helps? Does arguing like this excuse you from facing the consequences? Do you think everyone in the world will treat you with kindness? You aren’t any noble figures and others aren’t Saints. What makes you think you can be repeatedly forgiven and treated well? Aren’t you just arguing here today to cover up the consequences of your mistakes? Isn’t it that you’re unwilling to accept these mistakes? If you’re so capable, why don’t you dare to accept the errors you’ve made? Is this the face you’re talking about? When you can’t even accomplish the basics, what gives you the right to argue with me here?”

”Grandpa, you heard it too. I wasn’t arguing with my dad. It’s just that his actions were too excessive. Despite taking so many measures, he never regrets anything. Has he been ignoring all measures, never knowing to reflect on his actions? Would it take losing everyone who cares about him for him to wake up one day? Why does he keep hurting us like this? What do we owe him? All these years, he’s never been there for us, yet we keep forgiving him over and over. And what is the final outcome? He thinks we’re intentionally mistreating him, deliberately excluding him from returning to the Zhang Family. But he himself once said that if he ever hides something from us, he would never step into the Zhang Family’s door again. He doesn’t even remember what he said!”

”What do you mean I don’t remember what I said? Are you implying that you want to kick your biological father out of the house again? If you want to, just tell me directly. Why do you need to beat around the bush to say these things to me? As my biological son, do you think you should be speaking to your father like this? Is this how a son should talk to his father? Do you even understand what respect is?”

”Enough, I told you two to stop arguing. What’s the point of this bickering? These words clearly came out of your mouth. Do you think my son and I are wrongfully accusing you? Do you not realize that speaking like this is really over the top? Do you never consider the consequences of your own words? Do you really believe everyone is foolish enough to be manipulated by you and your wife? Even if everyone were fools, neither my son nor I are fools. Many things are as clear as day to us. Everyone just chooses not to speak, leaving room for maneuver. But consider yourselves whether the things you’ve done wrong are truly right? Are you not afraid of retribution for the things you’ve done? Hurting me and your son like this, do you really think it’s justified? You always claim that you belong in the Zhang Family; I want to ask you, on what basis do you say you belong here?”

”I don’t want to argue with you two here. Is it meaningful to keep arguing? Seriously, it’s frustrating to argue here.”

Old Master Zhang found it funny. It’s clear that she was the one who continued to argue, so why was she now turning around to blame him? He had never seen such a son before. Why did he end up raising a son who only tormented him?

”Don’t you think what you just said is quite amusing? You’re the one arguing here, yet you turn around to blame us. Don’t you feel this is a bit unethical? Is this how a father treats his son? Do you not fear heavenly punishment for doing this over and over again? Can you just move on with this on your conscience? Are you truly at peace with your heart? Honestly, I don’t know how you’ve been living abroad all these years, without any sense of guilt? Have you never felt that you’ve wronged your son, abandoned your family, your father? Doesn’t it torment you, this cold-heartedness? Even if you’re so cold-hearted, shouldn’t you be moved by us by now, knowing what family means, what’s really important? Why don’t you ever get it? Why are you still the same, acting without thinking? Were you born without a brain? I don’t understand why, in such a smart family, we have a son as foolish as you. How did we end up with someone so ungrateful? The Zhang Family has always been loyal and filial, but what about you? What are you like? Always so selfish, making me feel a bit...”

Old Master Zhang didn’t even know how to describe his son, so he chose to say nothing more.

You’re the one I most want to have, the one I can’t let go of, and the one I will give everything to protect!
