My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2152: Chapter 1985: I Really Like You

Happiness is not given by others, but by yourself!

”Grandpa, thank you for stepping back like this for my sake. I know these things mean nothing to us, but they’re important to you. Yet, I hope you understand one thing: my parents will always be part of this family. Whether they return or not, they forever belong here. If they come back, shouldn’t we open the door to welcome them?”

Instead of repeatedly shutting them out. Grandpa, we’ve never reflected on our own mistakes. Think back to when we turned them away; imagine how hurt my parents must have felt. Despite thinking it’s all their fault, they bore the consequences silently, never causing us any difficulties. Now, in hindsight, we were also at fault. Why place the blame entirely on them? Why cause them such pain?”

My parents still love our family. Their earlier decisions were made out of necessity, unwillingly. As long as the family can live together happily and peacefully, isn’t that enough? After all, sweet times come after bitterness. Just remember the joyful moments of the past, as they’re the most beautiful times, right? Why dwell on old sorrows, causing pain to yourself, while those responsible suffer even more?”

Old Master Zhang listened to his grandson and found wisdom in his words, yet he didn’t know what to do. Clearly, these matters were partly his fault, and he made mistakes that hurt the family. But he couldn’t admit these errors as it would cost him his dignity.

”Grandpa, I believe you’ll bravely own up to your mistakes, won’t you?”

”Grandpa, I also believe that your place in my heart will never change because you were there, enduring hardships to raise me. You gave me my success, my beauty, and my achievements. You provided me with a family, fulfilling all my desires. Even during my struggles before achieving all this, my current life fulfills my dreams and is my greatest joy in life.”

”Indeed, ultimately no one owes anything to another; it only matters if we strive for our desires. I paid so much for what I wanted, and you witnessed every tough step I took. I believe you understand how hard this journey has been for me...”

Indeed, how could he not know the struggles his beloved grandson endured?

That’s why he felt even more protective of his grandson, realizing their hardships. Yet, he couldn’t comprehend why his parents continued to hurt him. This disbelief made it harder for Old Master Zhang to accept. While other parents hope for their children to have a carefree, joyful childhood, his grandson only faced endless trials and trained ceaselessly, trying to prove he was the best to his parents, hoping to show their abandonment was wrong. But he never realized this proof was mere self-comfort, attempting to show those who abandoned him that he was now the most remarkable child. But why did everything turn out this way? Often, when you think nothing has changed, you turn back to find everything has changed, and nothing waits in its original place.

”Child, you’ve had it so tough these years. That’s precisely why you can’t easily forgive your parents because of their abandonment. You endured pain to prove yourself. Do you think your grandpa isn’t pained by this?”

”In grandpa’s heart, you’re more important than your parents because I raised you painstakingly. I watched you grow step by step, observed you through your hardships, unable to alleviate them in the slightest. I’m aware of your pain, but there’s no choice; they are your parents. You must love and respect them and can’t choose hatred. No matter their mistakes, in their hearts, they love you and see you as most important. So, every action you take, even if wrong, they’ll view it positively, only hoping to compensate for you with their efforts and guilt...”

Zhang Yichen fell silent. Although he knew this long ago, hearing it from his grandpa evoked inexplicable sadness. Why did everything end up like this? Even he didn’t know. But since it happened, why obsess over past events, disturbing peace? Isn’t it enough for everyone to live happily together? Why hang onto old issues, causing mutual distress? Time has moved on; no need to persist in past ways.

”Grandpa, years have passed, and there’s no need to cling to these issues any longer. What’s ours is still ours. We don’t face hardships like before. Shouldn’t we live a happy life? Why hold onto a past that causes pain, dwelling in a miserable world? Our goal should be to live happily together, right?”

Maybe you’re unaware of your affection, but I feel utterly incurable!
