My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2184: Chapter 2017: Star and Moon

Thinking back to when I first met my cousins, I haven’t seen them since then, and I wonder if they’re doing well lately?

After leaving Lei Jian, Zhang Yichen drove back to his own home promptly. He didn’t want his wife to wait too long at home, knowing it’s a time she needed his care the most, as she was growing heavier by the day. No matter what, he couldn’t be absent from his son’s growth and development. He had to stay by his wife’s side at all times, watching their baby come into this world. He wanted to set the best example for his child, showing how much he, as a father, loved her.

When Ran Zhihan saw Zhang Yichen return, she said to him, ”Honey, is Lei Jian’s grandpa okay?”

”Dear, after I visited his grandpa, I had so many thoughts. Sometimes I start thinking, what if it were my grandpa lying there? What would I do? How should I handle it? You must know how good my grandpa has been to me, always trying his hardest to give me everything I desired. But I’ve never truly repaid him for all these years, and now he’s old. Even though he always says he doesn’t need me to do anything for him in return, I understand that the best return for him is the child you are carrying. He’s waiting for our baby to be born. Seeing his unsteady steps reminds me of when I was little and learning to walk, falling over time and again, only to be picked up by my grandpa each time. Back then, my parents weren’t around to give me warmth, and all I knew was my grandpa. During that time, I saw my grandpa as my whole world, where I could grow up carefree in his cradle, not worrying about anything. But as I grew up, I realized there are many things I need to face myself, and grandpa can’t shield me from everything.”

”Honey, I know Lei Jian is heartbroken over Li Haixiao’s situation, and I understand your inner thoughts. But I hope you realize that sometimes for those tormented by illness, leaving this vibrant world is a form of relief. Didn’t they long to leave this world a while ago? For them, being here, reliant on machines to control their vital signs, might be worse than death. If they can’t move a muscle and need help even with basic bodily functions, how do they cope with their self-respect? Sometimes people are selfish, only seeing their immediate interests and never considering the feelings of the sick. Anyone alive would want their loved ones by their side for a lifetime, as losing a family member is a heavy blow. However, for those wracked by illness, it’s liberation, while for their family, it’s torment, a relationship of cause and effect. Sometimes, by opening your heart a little and looking at the world with an open mind, you get a different perspective. You can view the world with your eyes or heart, and these views are completely different. Honey, stop worrying about it. Trust that one day, your grandpa will have his day, and then what choice will you make? I know you won’t be able to choose because he’s the one who raised you. During your toughest times, he was your encouragement, giving you confidence to stand again and the means to have everything you have today. Without him, how would you ever have met me? Indeed, we should thank our family since, without them, where would we be now? Don’t always think of demanding from others things that don’t belong to you. People should find satisfaction in contentment. I’m sure you’ve heard this saying before, albeit in the context of relationships: ’If it is meant to be, it will be. If not, it will not.’ There are so many beauties in this world, don’t be a fool and force things. This saying applies here too. If something is destined to be yours, it won’t elude you. But if it’s not meant to be, even if you forcibly keep it by your side, eventually, you will lose it, right? Often, if we who are alive can come to terms with this, we won’t be so troubled. Stop letting unpleasant things upset your mind. Isn’t grandpa safely with us now? Why dwell on such unpleasant thoughts? While grandpa is still here, let’s give him everything we can and allow him to enjoy the remainder of his life happily, isn’t it? Seeing him happy should make you very happy inside as well, right?”

Listening to Ran Zhihan’s words, Zhang Yichen found them to be full of wisdom. Why not let his grandpa enjoy his final days happily instead of worrying over unpleasant things and worrying too much about himself? Grandpa had been worrying about him for decades, and now should he still be burdened by him? Absolutely not. He wanted grandpa to have a joyful, carefree, and entirely worry-free time in his last days, enjoying the most blissful phase of life, and not leaving this world with regrets. He had to ensure his grandpa left without any regrets; otherwise, how could he live with himself?

”Dear, thank you, I’ve come to understand. As long as grandpa is still with us, we should make his final days as happy and joyful as possible, without letting him worry about any of our matters. Let him leave with no regrets. If he leaves this world with regrets, it would be my disloyalty as his grandson. He’s sacrificed so much for me, giving up everything he had for my sake. How could I let my grandpa be disappointed? I’ll prove that I can grow up into a responsible adult, that I can shoulder all responsibilities, and cherish everything grandpa has given me...”

The wind blows, changing the seasons; in the night, how I wish to hold your hand!
