My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2186: Chapter 2019: Waiting

Don’t keep lingering in waiting, using excuses to explain myself.

From the beginning till now, I’ve never slackened, never admitted defeat, never followed the crowd, never paused the dreams I hold.

Zhang Yichen knows that Xia Jing has definitely gone off to cry alone again. He understands that although Xia Jing appears strong outwardly, her heart is extremely fragile, unable to withstand any harm. But this time the harm is too great for Xia Jing; perhaps she can never forget being abandoned by her husband for the rest of her life!

For any woman, they can’t tolerate this kind of pain, the marriage they’ve worked hard to build, the feelings they desperately try to maintain, but it’s all shattered because of a simple mistake. Who can accept that? Perhaps in Zhang Zhentian’s eyes, his wife is a strong person who wouldn’t cry no matter the hardship, but he never imagined that this time, his wife’s heart would be utterly broken because of his abandonment, crying secretly day and night in her bedroom, unknown to anyone!

Xia Jing truly has nowhere to turn. She doesn’t know what she can do to make her husband change his mind. Perhaps they were destined to have this ending; it just came a bit earlier than she expected.

Zhang Zhentian, for the sake of his son, repeatedly asks where Xia Jing has gone, but she won’t tell him. He really doesn’t know where to find his wife.

That day, Zhang Zhentian approached his father again, trying to find out through him if his son had told his father about Xia Jing’s location.

Old Master Zhang felt puzzled seeing Zhang Zhentian return to the Zhang Family. How could his son suddenly come back without informing earlier?

Zhang Zhentian was excited as he saw his father coming down the stairs, heading toward Zhang Mo eagerly.

”Why did you decide to come back on your own today? Is there something you want to ask me?” Old Master Zhang didn’t believe his son would return so nonchalantly unless he wanted to find out some truth through him; otherwise, he wouldn’t have stepped through the door.

Hearing his father say this, Zhang Zhentian felt his father must know something, which made him more excited. He was so thrilled that he grasped his father’s hand and asked, ”I want to ask you, do you know where Xia Jing went?”

Old Master Zhang felt puzzled hearing Zhang Zhentian’s question and replied, ”Zhang Zhentian, are you joking with me? Your own wife is missing, and you’re telling me this? What does your wife being missing have to do with me? How would I know where she went?”

Zhang Zhentian felt puzzled too; does this father not know where his wife went? Then why did he act all-knowing when speaking to him?

”Didn’t Yichen tell you where Xia Jing went?” Zhang Zhentian asked suspiciously.

”Don’t you find your question funny? Even if I knew, so what? If I didn’t know, so what? Why should I tell you, since you’re the one who decided to divorce her? I’m not the one who forced you to make this decision. Although she chose to leave now, why bring her back to continue hurting her? Perhaps Xia Jing really feels cold-hearted towards you now?”

”I knew you definitely know where she went. Since you know, can you tell me? I want to bring her back now; I’ll do anything as long as she can return to me!”

Old Master Zhang couldn’t suppress his curiosity after hearing his son say this. He wanted to understand what his son meant by ’willing to do anything’.

”Then tell me, what are you willing to sacrifice to bring her back to you?”

”As long as she can come back, I can spend my whole life never stepping into the Zhang Family’s door; as long as she can return, I can spend my life never acknowledging you or my son...”

Old Master Zhang was stunned; is he truly so insignificant in Zhang Zhentian’s mind? For a woman, he can abandon him repeatedly.

”Zhang Zhentian, have you forgotten? You yourself proposed to divorce her. I advised you, but you resolutely decided to divorce your wife. Since you made that decision then, what right do you have to regret now? Don’t you know a man’s word is his bond? How can you act so inconsistently? When you make a decision, do you always end up regretting it? Is this the responsibility a man should have? Just to be blunt, even if you abandon me and your son now to search for her, she may not want to live with you again. Any woman, having her husband decide on a divorce over a small mistake, cannot forgive him, as such harm is not easily healed. I advised you repeatedly back then, urging you to think it over carefully, but you insisted on your way. You didn’t take my advice and calmly handle such a serious matter, so what’s the point of regretting now? Your wife has left; wherever she goes, she won’t live with you again. A woman whose heart was hurt by her husband has a dead heart that can’t be easily revived. Do you think a dead heart can come back to life?”

Zhang Zhentian has to admit his father makes valid points, but he truly can’t remain indifferent now. His wife left him without warning, and his heart is restless. No matter where she is, he needs to find her and bring her back. Whether it takes ten, twenty years, or even longer, he will continue to search until the day he finds her.

”Dad, since you don’t know where she went, then consider me saying goodbye today. I’ve thought it over; I really can’t lose the woman I love most, even though she hurt me so much, I still can’t let go of her. I want to find her. Even though the world is so vast and finding her is difficult, I don’t want to give up. A dozen years of relationship can’t be forgotten just like that. So many years, every day, every night, every two hours, she was by my side, and without her, my life has lost its luster. I just want the two of us to stay together forever, never leaving each other. Now I will search for my beloved wife. While I’m gone, take good care of yourself and wait here for me to bring my wife back so we can happily live the life we want!”

”Since you’ve made up your mind, I won’t stop you, but I hope you remember to think carefully about everything and not hurt yourself or the ones you love most...”

I treat all of this as a new beginning. I can’t continue waiting endlessly like this anymore; I need to change everything now.
