My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2156: Chapter 1989: The End

The very last, after all, is just a dream. The heart hurts more and more. If we return to the beginning, how can we choose to forget? To forget every piece of the past, your words are too heart-wrenching, leaving no room at all.

Old Master Zhang, upon learning this good news, went home to make a hearty bone broth for his daughter-in-law. After his granddaughter-in-law drank the nourishing soup, Old Master Zhang quickly called Xia Jing and Zhang Zhentian to tell them his grandson is now a father, and the newborn is indeed a big, chubby boy. The moment Xia Jing and Zhang Zhentian knew their grandson had arrived in this world, the two of them were crying tears of joy!

”Dad, is what you’re saying true? Do I really have a grandson? Is this child as cute as my son? I so want to hold her, but now I have no chance anymore. I am no longer part of the Zhang Family, and have no right to hold your household’s child. When I made such a decision back then, I should have foreseen this outcome. But I still left the Zhang Family headstrong, not considering the consequences. I never imagined that the retribution Heaven would give me would be like this. How much I wish he could give me a new path to choose. I would rather walk that path of no return than to give up my son. But now, there’s no turning back for me, Dad. Please convey to my son and daughter-in-law that my daughter-in-law is a really good person, and tell my son he must treat his wife well. Don’t walk the same path of no return that we did, and I hope you can tell him to take good care of his son and not abandon him, unlike what we did!”

After hearing Xia Jing’s words, Old Master Zhang felt a bit uncomfortable inside and somewhat conflicted. Is he truly going to watch his daughter-in-law and granddaughter-in-law become like this? Will he really let his daughter-in-law not be able to hold her own grandson? As an elder himself, does his heart truly feel at ease? But the Zhang Family has its family rules, much like the nation’s laws and household rules that cannot be broken. Since he made that decision back then, it proves he’s already chosen the path he wants to take. Why should he worry so much about him? The path of no return is one she chose herself, and she didn’t foresee today’s consequences when she chose it. Should he still choose a pioneering path for him?

”Actually, you didn’t foresee it either, right? You didn’t expect that in your heartless abandonment of your son, leaving the Zhang Family and disregarding the family rules, today you wouldn’t even be able to hold your own grandson. I know you truly didn’t foresee this consequence back then, which is why you acted so stubbornly and made such a decision. Now that you’ve realized your mistake, but I still cannot break the Zhang family’s rules to bring you back. I’ve already given you many chances to reconcile with my son so you could return honorably, but you refuse to compromise, always believing that the so-called freedom is everything you yearn for. You never put your family within your scope of consideration, perhaps family can never compare to your so-called freedom. Your son, your daughter-in-law, and a grandson are all less important than your so-called freedom, let alone an old man like me.”

”Dad, I must admit, when I made such a decision back then, I indeed didn’t foresee today’s consequences. I didn’t think Heaven would retaliate against me this way. If I had known early on that today would be the greatest revenge against me, then I would have rather stayed at home, never stepping out of the Zhang Family door, and certainly wouldn’t have left my son to leave the Zhang Family. You did give me many chances which I didn’t cherish, missing so many opportunities to return home and reunite with my family; it was my own lack of gratitude. But Dad, how many times have you thought from my perspective and considered me? My husband said those words to me, so how could I continue living at home? In her heart, my husband no longer sees me as his wife. Given this, what meaning is there for me to cling to them shamelessly? I’m not somebody without dignity. On the contrary, my pride is very strong, you know this. If not, how could I have stayed outside all these years, never returning to the Zhang Family? Perhaps back then he was trying to force me away, knowing very well my pride is so strong, my arrogance so important. I wouldn’t compromise my pride for anything or anyone, yet he hurt my pride. Wasn’t he clearly trying to drive me away from him, from home, and away from my son and daughter-in-law? I know, ever since I married into the Zhang Family, I haven’t done my duty as a daughter-in-law for one day, nor have I fulfilled my duty of filial piety. It’s my fault, and I let you worry so much over me. Thank you for raising my son so well. Thank you for bringing my son up. Thank you for tirelessly taking care of him and raising him. I am fully aware, without you, my son wouldn’t have achieved what he has today. Without you, my son couldn’t have grown up. Without you, my son wouldn’t recognize me. I also realize, because of you, my son called me ’mom’ for the first time. Because you always strived for my relationship with my son, you always believed my son shouldn’t abandon his mother because I’m his biological mom. You have done so much for me and my son, and I can’t repay you. I’ll never be able to repay my dad in this lifetime. I ask for nothing now. I only hope my son and daughter-in-law will raise their son well. Don’t be like me—I have failed as a mother, as a daughter-in-law, and as a wife. In your son’s heart, I have no status now. Since this is the case, I will never return. As long as I can see my son and daughter-in-law happy from afar, it’s the greatest happiness for me. I don’t care about much, nor do I want to ask for too much because overreaching never ends well. I just want to see my son safe. I only want to see my grandson grow safely, call me ’grandma’ when he sees me one day. That’s enough!”

Perhaps everything returns to zero, to the very first memory.
