My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2163: Chapter 1996: Encounter

One’s life is walked out step by step by oneself, and it is one’s own hard work that refuses to give up!

After Xia Jing finished speaking to her son, she hung up the phone. She now needed to go back to pack up her things and prepare to leave here. Xia Jing had already opened her mind to it; she felt that after doing so much to remedy the situation, she had no face to continue staying here. She didn’t want to continue disturbing the lives of her father, her husband, and her son, as her presence brought so many bad things, and so many troubles were created because of her. She couldn’t make these things disappear because these have already become irrevocable. Perhaps only her departure could restore everything to its original state, as if nothing had happened.

Zhang Yichen heard the sound of the phone being disconnected; his inner unease grew stronger and stronger. Could his mom really be going to do something irreversible? The only thought in his mind now was to quickly call his dad, asking him to find his mom. Things have already happened, and he couldn’t let his mom have any accidents. Everything, even if related to his mother, he couldn’t treat her like a stranger. After all, he carries half of her blood!

Zhang Zhentian was still at home, continuing to chat about ordinary matters with Old Master Zhang, who wanted to confirm once more if his son’s heart was really set and there was no turning back.

”Zhentian, have you really thought it through? Do you really want to let the feelings of all these years of marriage scatter just like that? Can you really bear for your wife to leave you? You’ve weathered so many storms together over the years. Would you still be happy without her?” asked Old Master Zhang to Zhang Zhentian.

Zhang Zhentian let out a long sigh, uncertain about how to answer his father. He was also very conflicted internally about this matter; he didn’t want to part but, as a man, once he spoke of divorce, there was no turning back.

”Dad, I really don’t want to explain this matter any further. My mind is made up, and I must get a divorce. We did so many wrong things, so many inhumane things, and hurt so many people. You and my son have forgiven us, but our hearts are guilty. I can’t let us continue to err, you know?

All these years, in my dreams, I often see figures of you and my son. Sometimes I wake up suddenly from my dreams, feeling scared, afraid that heaven will provide retribution because I abandoned my father and my son. Whenever I think of these things, my heart hurts like no other. But I have no choice; I can only keep walking on the path I chose, step by step, because I always believed that as long as it was the path you chose, even if filled with thorns ahead, you must keep walking step by step without looking back. But now I understand many things. It’s not that there’s no road back, but whether you choose to turn back. Buddhism says that good will be rewarded and evil will be punished; the sea of suffering is vast, but turning back is the shore. Why must one eternally find endless pain?

Why not let oneself live happily with family? Dad, the truths I didn’t understand in the past, I now fully comprehend. I can no longer be like before, selfishly abandoning you and my son. I want to be by your side, properly honor you, and watch my son grow step by step. I can’t be absent from your lives anymore. The emotional gap of over ten years can’t be filled in just a few days and nights, but only by truly being with each other can it be repaired!”

Old Master Zhang could not have imagined the depth of his son’s realization this time, yet he still had to argue with him: ”Zhentian, you are mistaken, indeed. What you say is correct; the emotional gap of over ten years can’t be filled in simple days and nights. Even if you are with us all day in the future, it can’t fill the gap of those ten years. That emotional gap isn’t just simple emotions but the most crucial phase for you to build a relationship with your son and for you to honor me, your father. But you missed that crucial phase. Do you think you can repair it by coming back now?

For so long, I haven’t opposed how you live with your wife. I know you two truly loved each other, but I hope you both can calm down. After you both calm down, then consider whether you really want to divorce. This isn’t a small matter for you both, or for the Zhang Corporation, and it’s even less of a small matter for your son. Would you really bear to let your son be put under greater pressure because of what you do?

Zhentian felt his heart indeed wavering after hearing his father speak like this. He couldn’t bear for his son to be hurt any further because of him, nor did he want the Zhang Corporation his father painstakingly built to suffer any disastrous consequences because of his unfortunate marriage. He couldn’t let all this misfortune fall onto his father or his son; he’d rather all misfortune end up on himself. But heaven is like that—you make mistakes, and perhaps the ones hurt aren’t you but your family.

”Honestly, hearing your persuasion, my heart indeed wavered. I’m not sure now whether to really divorce my wife. You’re right; I understand, the emotional ties of over ten years of marriage can’t be separated easily. The emotional bonds of over ten years of marriage can’t be given up with just a few words. We’ve experienced so many ups and downs together for thousands of days and nights and nothing has separated us. But now, because of her one lie, I’m considering abandoning her. I don’t know if what I’m doing is right or wrong?”

”Since you are unsure now about your feelings, then don’t make a hasty decision. You should calm down and think about this matter carefully. Do you really want to do this?

What consequences will follow if you do this? Can you guarantee you won’t regret it afterward? If you do this and regret it later, who will offer you regret medicine? There’s no road back!”

”Dad, I understand. I know that what I’m doing now is indeed impulsive. Rest assured, I will carefully consider how to handle this matter. I will give you and my son an explanation that causes no harm! Sorry for troubling you with such a big issue; I’m an unfilial son for relying on you to deal with this mess...”

”Child, no matter what you do, or how much you might disappoint me, as a father, I won’t blame my son. Go ahead, but be sure to think it through, so you won’t regret it years down the line...”

Ideals are always far from reality, and every decision made can only be followed persistently to the end without giving up!
