Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 2495: Chapter 2496: Return to Tianyun (62)

”Banyan, I’m doing this for your own good. In this household, everyone acts according to the master’s mood. You’ve just arrived and offended his favorite child, ruining any good impression he had of you. I’m worried that you won’t have a good life here in the future. However, as the Marquis’ daughter, as long as you maintain appearances, even if he remembers this incident, he won’t hold it against you. After all, Haier is the legitimate son of this family, and he’ll inherit this household in the future.”

Wan Banyan sniffled but carefully listened to Mrs. Cao, then said through her tears, ”Mother, I was wrong this time. From now on, I’ll make sure to maintain appearances.”

Mrs. Cao immediately praised her with flattery, ”As expected of the young lady of the Marquis’ Mansion, your grace and tolerance are indeed different.”

...

While Mrs. Cao was feigning praise for Wan Banyan, the young lady of the Marquis’ Mansion, on the way back to their courtyard, Su Xing and Taoming Ye were stopped by a young servant from Tao Chengyin’s side.

”Young master, young mistress, the master asks you to have breakfast at the Leaning Moon Pavilion. He’s already waiting for you there.”

Su Xing and Taoming Ye exchanged a smile and headed toward the Leaning Moon Pavilion. The pavilion was by the artificial hill next to the lotus pond in the Tao Mansion Garden.

As Su Xing walked with Taoming Ye toward the Leaning Moon Pavilion, she lowered her voice and teased, ”Husband, it’s a good thing you’re not the legitimate son. If you were, with father’s love for you, no one else in this family would have any status to speak of.”

Taoming Ye chuckled softly, ”I owe it all to my mother. If I had been born from the legitimate mother, father might not have treated me the same.” He paused, ”My father and mother were deeply in love.”

After another pause, he spoke even more quietly, as if he only wanted Su Xing, his wife, to know, ”My mother started as a maidservant to my father when she was seven, two years older than him. She became his concubine at nineteen, gave birth to me at twenty-one, and passed away at thirty-two. When she was alive, my father used to tell me that if he could, he would not have let her be just a concubine, he wanted her as his main wife. But grandmother opposed, so in filial piety, he had no choice but to take her as a concubine. After my mother passed, my father never spoke of it again, though he often visits her room when he’s free, keeping her room exactly the same despite all these years.”

Su Xing gently squeezed her husband’s hand, smiling sweetly at him, ”You are the crystallization of your father’s and mother’s love, no wonder your father dotes on you so much.”

”Crystallization?”

”It means you are the child born from your father and mother’s love~”

Taoming Ye nodded, then glanced at her belly.

Su Xing immediately pushed his face away, forcing him to look elsewhere, ”What are you looking at? I’m not pregnant yet, don’t look!”

Taoming Ye simply smiled, especially tenderly.

By the time Su Xing and Taoming Ye reached the Leaning Moon Pavilion, Tao Chengyin was already sitting there having breakfast. He just gestured for them to sit without speaking.

Seeing that Tao Chengyin had no intention of speaking, Su Xing and Taoming Ye also remained silent, quietly eating their breakfast.

As they were about to finish breakfast, Tao Chengyin suddenly spoke up, ”I heard yesterday that you made a new dish in your courtyard, quite refreshing and perfect for summer?”

Su Xing immediately responded with a warm smile, ”Yes, it’s called cold noodles, made from washed flour. Father, would you like some? I can make it for you at noon if you’d like?”
