Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 2473: Chapter 2474: Return to Tianyun (40)

Mrs. Cao was so furious she felt like coughing blood, yet she could only smile and express gratitude: ”You are thoughtful. Thanks to you, otherwise I would have been kept in the dark.”

Su Xing merely smiled.

In truth, neither commons sons nor commoner girls were foolish; they understood that Mrs. Cao must have embezzled the money, with Zhong Dasheng as the scapegoat. But now that what Mrs. Cao swallowed must all be returned, they watched, pleased because they had shops too, not as many as their eldest brother, just one or two each, but Mrs. Cao had also embezzled their money.

Involuntarily, the commons sons and commoner girls looked toward Su Xing, all with pleading eyes asking Su Xing to speak on their behalf: Sister-in-law, please say something for us.

Su Xing understood and smiled at Mrs. Cao, saying: ”Mother, you must manage your people well, Zhong Dasheng embezzled my husband’s rent, it’s possible there’s someone else like Zhong Dasheng under your command also embezzling rent, now that Zhong Dasheng has caused a commotion, to prevent such incidents from happening again, it would not be good for mother to gain a reputation for being unable to manage the servants.”

Knowing the deep meaning in Su Xing’s words, which meant she wanted all the rents embezzled from other commons sons and commoner girls to be returned too, Mrs. Cao was so angry she wanted to swallow Su Xing alive, but she still smiled and said to Su Xing: ”You are quite right.”

Immediately, Mrs. Cao with a kind face said to the commons sons and commoner girls: ”Your rents are also collected on my side, it was your sister-in-law who visited the shop and found out, you should go and ask, see how much rent you’ve really got, if there’s really someone like Zhong Dasheng amongst those I sent to collect your rent, just come back to me, I’ll help you get all your rent back, after all, you call me mother.”

The commons sons and commoner girls immediately all respectfully said to Mrs. Cao: ”Thank you, mother!”

Thinking about how much more silver she might have to return, Mrs. Cao was resentful yet hid it well, unable to reveal the slightest displeasure, and could only suppress her anger.

The commons sons and commoner girls all secretly cast grateful glances at Su Xing when Mrs. Cao wasn’t looking.

Su Xing pretended not to see, so Mrs. Cao wouldn’t dare retaliate against her, yet might seek vengeance on them later.

Su Xing then said: ”Mother, you have many matters to attend to, from now on we won’t trouble you to collect rents, I’ll assign someone to do it, as Míngyè’s wife, I must also do something for Míngyè.”

Since it was their shop, could Mrs. Cao say it’s not okay for them to collect their own rents?

She could only grit her teeth while smiling and say: ”Ye’er marrying such a virtuous wife as you is truly a blessing from a previous life.”

Su Xing laughed: ”I don’t know if it’s a blessing, all I know is that since Míngyè and I are husband and wife, we must live our lives well.”

All Mrs. Cao could do besides gritting her teeth and smiling was grit her teeth and smile. Someday, she was determined to poison this wretched girl to death!

Just then, Ru Song arrived, first bowing to Mrs. Cao, then addressing Su Xing: ”The eldest young master sent me; seeing the young mistress hadn’t returned, he wanted me to see what was going on.”

Su Xing knew Taoming Ye was worried about her and smiled: ”Go back and tell the eldest young master, tell him Zhong Dasheng’s embezzlement of rent has been handled fairly by mother, Zhong Dasheng has gone to the money bank to retrieve money for return, once I have the money, I’ll go back.”

The four words ’handled fairly,’ Su Xing deliberately emphasized, infuriating Mrs. Cao who now wanted to poison Su Xing.

”Yes, young mistress,” Ru Song took her words and quickly withdrew, returning to inform his young master that their young mistress was fine and had recovered all the silver.
