Chapter 2464: Chapter 2465: Return to Tianyun (31)

Tao Mingye sincerely said, ”Thank you.”

”You’re being too polite, don’t do this in the future,” she said, a bit displeased.

He held her hand tighter, looking at her with such tenderness, and nodded, ”Hmm.”

...

Mrs. Cao acted quickly; even though she was very reluctant, she started handling the compensation promised by Tao Chengyin to Su Xing as soon as she returned from Tao Mingye.

It just so happened that there was a large courtyard in the Tao Mansion, as big as that of the legitimate son Tao Minghai, with a small existing kitchen; therefore, after Mrs. Cao assigned this courtyard to Tao Mingye, all she needed was to add a cook, three maidservants, and three young servants.

Su Xing moved into this large courtyard with Tao Mingye on the second day after marrying into the Tao Mansion.

Including the maidservant Hong Ye, there were a total of five maidservants in the courtyard. Su Xing wanted Hong Ye to oversee the maidservants and asked Tao Mingye’s opinion. Tao Mingye had no objections, so Hong Ye became the Chief Maidservant and received a monthly salary of one tael. The cook was also managed by Hong Ye.

As for the four young servants, Su Xing appointed Ru Song, who had always been serving Tao Mingye, as the Head servant to oversee the other three young servants.

Tao Chengyin’s concubines and Commons Sons and Daughters saw Tao Mingye moving to the new courtyard, and they courteously sent gifts.

Neither Mrs. Cao nor Tao Minghai wanted to send gifts, but they did, lest others talk if they didn’t while everyone else did.

Tao Chengyin didn’t call it a gift; he directly gave items: a twelve-panel sandalwood screen, a pair of eight treasure vase, a fine inkstone, and two antique name paintings—all things that could be used for room decoration.

Su Xing returned the gesture by sending each person a small plate of pastries she made herself.

Even though she loved pastries in the modern day, and the ancient kitchen wasn’t as convenient as modern ones, her pastries were still quite exquisite and delicious.

Even Tao Mingye, who wasn’t particularly fond of sweets, graciously ate two pieces.

Everyone else who received the pastries ate them to varying degrees, except Mrs. Cao, who didn’t eat a single piece and angrily threw them on the ground, as if the pastries were Su Xing herself.

Mrs. Cao even stomped on the broken pastries on the ground twice angrily.

Clearly, Tao Mingye is a Commons Son, yet he will be equals with her son in this mansion; it’s preposterous!

Clearly, Tao Mingye used to be quite obedient, nearly agreeing to everything she said. Now, that wretched girl is in the house, Tao Mingye always sides with her and doesn’t even take his medicine anymore!

Indeed, the medicine has issues; it was poisoned, but it’s a poison that can’t be detected by the Silver needle or even noticed by the doctor.

Not long after she married into the mansion, Tao Mingye’s mother, this concubine, became pregnant and bore a son. Isn’t this a slap to her face as the Principal Wife and a stab to her heart?!

Just then, shortly after Tao Mingye was born, she accidentally obtained a type of poison.

This poison is quite miraculous, not only colorless and odorless but undetectable by the Silver needle and untraceable by the doctor through the pulse; moreover, the poison requires reaching a certain dosage before it becomes lethal.

Even if it does kill someone, people won’t know the person was poisoned.

Just like how she poisoned Tao Mingye’s mother to death.

But why didn’t she poison Tao Mingye in the straightforward way she poisoned his mother? Because Tao Mingye is like a thorn in her heart; letting this legitimate eldest son die so easily would be too lenient for Tao Mingye, and she intends to torment him properly.
