Chapter 2460: Chapter 2461: Return to Tianyun (27)

Just as Su Xing was planning to ask Ru Song a bit more about other matters in the household, the senior Maidservant Manhe at Mrs. Cao’s side came delivering medicine.

”Young master, this medicine has to be taken while it’s hot, then it won’t be so bitter.” Manhe walked to the bedside and respectfully held the medicine bowl out toward Taoming Ye, who was lying on the bed.

Taoming Ye wanted to sit up, but Su Xing wouldn’t let him get up, and she even shot Hong Ye a look.

Hong Ye understood at once and hurriedly took a Silver needle, sticking it into the medicine bowl.

Manhe forced down her panic, her face looking quite unpleasant, and demanded, ”Young mistress, what do you mean by this? Do you suspect Madam of poisoning the young master?”

Seeing that the Silver needle in Hong Ye’s hand hadn’t turned black, Su Xing finally smiled unhurriedly and said, ”I don’t suspect anyone. I’m only being a bit careful for my husband’s health, that’s all. Yet the first thing you say is that I suspect Madam, putting such a big hat on my head. If this ends up ruining the relationship between me and Madam as mother- and daughter-in-law, can a mere little Maidservant like you afford to bear that blame?”

Though Manhe was unwilling in her heart, she still hurriedly knelt. ”Young mistress, please be magnanimous, it was this servant who misspoke! This servant acted without thinking—having never seen anyone test medicine with a Silver needle before, I lost my sense of propriety for a moment!”

Su Xing neither told Manhe to rise nor spoke to her, but instead took the medicine bowl from Manhe’s hands and gently asked Taoming Ye, ”Husband, will you drink it? If you will, I’ll help you sit up.”

In truth, she didn’t want him to drink it. Some poisons can’t be tested with a Silver needle at all. Besides, even if there wasn’t the slightest problem with this medicine, medicine is three parts poison; the doctor didn’t even know what illness he had, how could they just randomly give him medicine to ’nourish’ him like this!

But she also didn’t want to stop him from taking the medicine without his consent. This man was her husband, after all; she didn’t want anything to plant a thorn of resentment in his heart between them.

Whether there was a problem with the medicine, Taoming Ye knew very clearly. If it had been in the past, he might have gone along with Mrs. Cao’s wishes and continued drinking it.

But his little wife clearly didn’t want him to drink it.

So Taoming Ye spoke up, smiling. ”I’ve drunk it for so many years and it hasn’t had much effect. Let’s just stop from now on. It’ll save the household some Silver as well.”

Manhe immediately said, ”Young master, if you don’t drink the medicine, this servant will have no way to answer to Madam.”

Su Xing stuffed the medicine back into Manhe’s hands as she spoke, smiling brightly. ”Isn’t saving Silver for the household a good thing? Just tell Madam exactly what the young master said just now. I trust Madam won’t blame you for it.”

With no way out, Manhe could only leave with the medicine.

Only after seeing Manhe go did Su Xing turn back to Taoming Ye and smile. ”Husband, let’s not drink this medicine for now. I’ll think of a way to have Prince Xing take a look at you.”

Taoming Ye smiled and said, ”I don’t have such great face as to trouble Prince Xing to come in person. Better forget it. I don’t expect this body of mine to get better anyway.”

”You can’t be so discouraged! People have to have hope—you have to expect that this body of yours can get better!”

Taoming Ye didn’t argue with her, he only nodded.

Su Xing, however, snorted. ”Now that you’re not taking the medicine, Mother will definitely come over. Just you wait to be lectured.”

”It’s fine,” Taoming Ye said, utterly unconcerned, his manner gentle. ”As long as you’re happy, that’s all that matters.”

Hearing this, Su Xing knew at once that he’d seen right through how she really didn’t want him to drink this medicine, and her heart felt sweet as honey on the spot.

Su Xing asked Ru Song a few more things about the household, and had just finished when she heard Mrs. Cao’s anxious voice waft over—

”Ye’er, Ye’er, how can you not take your medicine? If you don’t take it, won’t you have your father and me worried sick! No matter how much of a little temper you’re in, you can’t refuse your medicine!”
