Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 2490: Chapter 2491: Return to Tianyun (57)

Tao Chengyin only blamed Huo Xiner, without blaming Taoming Ye at all, which made Mrs. Cao and Taoming Hai feel uncomfortable.

Mrs. Cao felt uncomfortable, but she still smiled and agreed, ”They have been staying at her parental home for three months now, and even took Ye’er with her. It’s about time to come back and live here. Otherwise, outsiders might gossip, saying our Tao family can’t accommodate the two of them, and that’s why they stayed at her parent’s home and didn’t come back.”

Tao Chengyin did not like these words from Mrs. Cao, but thinking that Mrs. Cao disliked him for loving his legitimate eldest son so much, he did not quarrel with her and instead squinted his old eyes.

Then, Tao Chengyin asked Taoming Hai, ”Haier, how did your sister-in-law do in the exam, do you know?”

Before Taoming Hai could speak, Mrs. Cao laughed and said, ”When her father was around, he could teach her. Her father passed away a long time ago, so who would teach her? Presumably, she didn’t do well.”

”Is that so, Haier?” Tao Chengyin asked again.

Taoming Hai lied dryly, ”I don’t know how she did either. After entering the examination hall, I was only focused on my own test and didn’t pay much attention to others.”

Tao Chengyin did not ask further.

The next morning, Tao Chengyin sent someone to the Huo family, asking Taoming Ye and Su Xing to return home.

Since the preliminary exam had already concluded, Taoming Ye and Su Xing had planned to return to the Tao family. As soon as Tao Chengyin sent someone, they had people pack their things and set off back to the Tao family.

When Tao Chengyin returned from the Ministry of Rites in the evening, Taoming Ye and Su Xing had not yet returned to the Tao family, which made Tao Chengyin quite unhappy. However, thinking of Taoming Ye’s health, the delay must have been due to the carriage stopping on the road, so he wasn’t angry but instead dispatched people to wait at the entrance to Taoming Ye’s courtyard.

At the third quarter of Yushi (around 9 PM), Taoming Ye and Su Xing returned to their courtyard in the Tao Mansion.

The moment Tao Chengyin’s people saw this, they rushed forward, saying, ”Young Master and Young Mistress are back! The Master asked me to inform the Young Master that if you’ve returned, there’s no need to rush to see him. He’s off tomorrow, so you and the Young Mistress can come to see him after breakfast.”

”Okay,” Taoming Ye nodded. ”Please let my father know that I’m doing quite well.”

”Yes, Young Master.”

Only when Su Xing guided Taoming Ye into the house did she smile at him, saying, ”I increasingly feel that your father truly cares for you.”

Taoming Ye only smiled tenderly.

”Since your father asked us to see him tomorrow morning, Taoming Hai must have already told your father about my participation in the martial arts exam,” Su Xing continued, beginning to laugh, ”though he’s probably too embarrassed to mention that I did better than him.”

Taoming Ye laughed, ”Second brother loves saving face; he probably wouldn’t mention it.”

”Even if he doesn’t, everyone will find out eventually. He was in the same exam group as me, and I saw that he only got just passing marks. Once the results are out, he won’t be able to hide it.”

”My wife is truly amazing.” The look he gave her was filled with tenderness and doting.

”Don’t praise me like that, I’ll get carried away!”

”It’s okay to be proud; you have every reason to be.”

...This young couple is simply too sweet! Hong Ye and Ru Song couldn’t bear to listen anymore and left to find something else to do.

...

The next day, after breakfast, Su Xing and Taoming Ye went to see Tao Chengyin.

Tao Chengyin had been worried that his eldest son wouldn’t be able to get up after spending a whole day in the carriage yesterday, but seeing him now, only slightly pale, his worries eased.

After they were seated, Tao Chengyin, taking on the demeanor of the family head, asked Su Xing, ”You participated in the martial arts exam?”
