Chapter 2476: Chapter 2477: Return to

Of course, Su Xing was being modest.

Huo Xiner had practiced martial arts since childhood, and even though Undefeated Huo, her father, passed away, she never neglected her training. Madam Huo supervised her daily, fearing she might slack off for even a day. If not for the engagement Undefeated Huo arranged for Huo Xiner, with plans to marry her off, Madam Huo would certainly prefer to keep Huo Xiner at home, to bring prosperity to the Huo family.

Fortunately, the open policies of Tianyun’s ruler allowed women to participate in literary and martial examinations and join the army. Otherwise, no matter how capable or ambitious a woman was, she wouldn’t have the opportunity to showcase her talents.

Besides, she had served in the modern military, having already integrated Huo Xiner’s martial arts with what she learned in the military and from her sister.

Anyway, her skills now surpassed those from her military days.

”Go take the examination. Who knows, I might just become the Martial Champion, haha.” Su Xing added, still in a joking tone.

Tao Mingxiang, who supported Su Xing’s decision, immediately chimed in, ”That would be great; I’d have a Martial Champion for a sister-in-law!”

Tao Mingqing smiled and said, ”If that indeed happens, sister-in-law, you would surely go down in history.”

”How so?” Su Xing was puzzled.

Tao Mingqing explained, ”There has never been a female Martial Champion in history, so if you succeed, you’d definitely be recorded in the annals of history.”

Tao Mingsheng, no longer surprised, laughed, ”Fifth brother is right. The current Deputy Prime Minister Lu Mo Ran is the first female Literary Champion in history. The Emperor was so pleased that he awarded her the Scholar’s Mansion and even personally inscribed its three-character name. Deputy Prime Minister Lu’s glory was unrivaled back then.”

Suppressing her excitement, Su Xing asked, ”Is Deputy Prime Minister Lu also the wife of Prince Zhi?”

Tao Mingsheng nodded, ”Yes, indeed.”

Su Xing immediately thought to herself: Then she’s my seventh sister-in-law! Damn, I definitely have to take the Martial Champion examination and strive to succeed, standing shoulder to shoulder with my seventh sister-in-law, one in literature and the other in martial arts. Just the thought of it is wonderful!

She said aloud, ”Don’t mention my decision to participate in the martial exam for now. Even if you don’t say it, others will eventually find out.”

Tao Mingsheng and the others said immediately, ”Don’t worry, sister-in-law, we’re not gossipers! As long as you pass the first stage, you’ll earn the title of Martial Talent, which is quite prestigious!”

After Tao Mingsheng and the others left, Su Xing looked worriedly at Taoming Ye: ”Husband, I didn’t tell you about this in advance. You’re not mad at me, are you?”

Without waiting for Taoming Ye to respond, she quickly explained, ”I hadn’t made up my mind before; it’s only just now that I decided to take the exam. Please don’t be angry; anger is bad for your health.”

Taoming Ye smiled gently, ”Why would I be angry? Why would I blame you? It’s great that you have such aspirations. Times have changed; women can now take exams and serve in the military. Before, women couldn’t even show their faces in public. Now, you see women everywhere on the streets. If you actually become a Martial Talent, it would be a great honor.”

”You underestimate me, huh? I’m not aiming for Martial Talent; I’m going for the Martial Champion!” Su Xing said arrogantly, raising her chin. ”If I really succeed, and the Emperor grants me a Scholars’ Mansion, we could move there, wouldn’t that be nice? No more dealing with those annoying people!”

Taoming Ye fondly pinched her delicate nose and nodded in approval.

In truth, he didn’t mind whether she became the Martial Champion or not, as long as she was happy.
