Chapter 2462: Chapter 2463: Return to Tianyun (29)

As soon as Manhe left, Mrs. Cao looked at Su Xing with a kind smile and said, ”Xin’er, it’s my misunderstanding, too. I was angry because I only wanted to do what’s best for Ye’er, but then people started suspecting me of poisoning him. Luckily, you’re just cautious by nature and didn’t really think I’m such a vicious person. However, your preferences are a bit unusual; if you’re not careful, it might hurt people’s feelings. I don’t mind, but others might blame you for always being on guard against them. If you can change, you should.”

Su Xing smiled and said, ”When my father was still alive, he told me it’s better to be careful. So no matter what I do, I’m extremely cautious, especially when it comes to food and drink.”

The words were clearly an implicit mockery.

Mrs. Cao pretended not to notice this, still maintaining her concerned, motherly demeanor: ”You just tested it, the medicine isn’t poisoned, why not let Ye’er take it?”

This time, it was Taoming Ye who spoke up, smiling at Mrs. Cao: ”Mother, it’s not that Xin’er doesn’t want your son to take it. I’ve explained it to you earlier; your son feels that after taking medicine for so long without seeing much effect, continuing would be a waste of Silver Coin, so I decided to stop taking it.”

Immediately, Taoming Ye sighed: ”That Manhe is somewhat unlike a maidservant. When I decided to stop taking medicine, I told her to inform you, and Xin’er also asked Manhe to speak to you. Yet you still don’t know...”

He promptly stopped talking, and Taoming Ye said no more.

Mrs. Cao, however, had no choice but to scold: ”That wretched girl didn’t explain things clearly to me, only said you didn’t want to take the medicine, and nothing else. I’ll give her a good scolding later!”

”Enough,” Mrs. Cao’s tone softened, ”no matter what the reason for not taking the medicine is, you must take it. It’s for your health. If you don’t take it, your health will only get worse. Listen to me. Even if you don’t think of me, you should consider your father. Your health has always been his worry. He hopes so much for your good health. If your condition worsens, he’d blame me for withholding medicine from you.”

The more Mrs. Cao insisted on Taoming Ye taking the medicine, the more Su Xing felt that there was something suspicious, and she became even more reluctant to let her husband take it.

Without waiting for Taoming Ye to speak, Su Xing smiled and said, ”Mother, rest assured, Father won’t blame you. Mingye has already sent someone to inform him, saying it’s his own decision not to take the medicine, so you won’t be held accountable. Besides, Mingye has been taking medicine continuously without any improvement. Let’s try stopping for a while. Perhaps it won’t make any difference, and it would save the household some Silver Coin, wouldn’t it?”

Taking advantage of the situation, Su Xing immediately added: ”In the future, there will be more expenses in the household, like Mingye’s treatment as an heir. His younger brother has such a large courtyard, with a small kitchen and many maidservants and young servants, monthly allowances and so on. All of these need to be quickly fulfilled for Mingye. Mine too. Though it may not cost much, it’s necessary. Father promised this to everyone’s face this morning, mother, you surely haven’t forgotten?”

Mrs. Cao ground her teeth in hatred but still kept smiling on the surface: ”This was the master’s promise, how could I forget? I’ll make up for everything soon.”

”Thank you, Mother. Ten days should be enough. If these things aren’t fulfilled by then, I’ll go and discuss it with the Duke of Liu.” She wasn’t one to be easily fooled.
