Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Capítulo 1250: Chapter 1042: Crisis at Candlekeep

Edna, who was happily walking out of the Strange Objects Shop with her friends, suddenly tilted her head in confusion and said, “Eh?”

“What’s wrong?” asked the ‘Old Age Striking King’, who was standing under the sunset, holding up the pair of silver-chain long-handled glasses in his hand—composed of crystal lenses and a frame encrusted with small pieces of red diamond, ruby, and red jadeite—as he admired them and turned to look at her.

Edna shook her head, “Nothing, my ear just itched a bit. I don’t know if someone is talking about me… I feel a bit spacey… like that.

Forget it, it should be nothing… even if there is, what’s the point in worrying?

Hey~ these glasses are really pretty!”

She took out her pair of glasses, which were identical to the Striking King’s except for the purple gemstones, and started to admire them as well.

In the gentle evening light, the frame of the glasses with its tiny embedded gemstones sparkled like waves, incredibly beautiful.

‘Cunlü’ was already wearing a set of golden glasses on her face, smiling charmingly, “Those Quel Senta little girls? Honestly… not even married, yet they’ve got that whole ‘I’m hot stuff’ attitude, no subtlety at all.

However, it seems women like that are all the rage here in Toril. I guess because time is short… so they can only rely on… ah, sorry, forgive me… my fault, I forgot again.

Sigh, Edna is already so mature and beautiful… always making me forget that she’s still four months away from being an adult!”

‘Old Age Striking King’ unhappily put down the glasses in his hand, staring at her steadily, “If you keep running your mouth next time, I’ll tell Hard Wind you deliberately used up all his pocket money just so he can’t buy a new car.”

“Tch! Dog man,” Cunlü said with a dark expression, “The car he likes… is so ugly I don’t even want to step on it! Just wait! Unless he likes another, he shouldn’t think of saving a penny of his pocket money!”

“Can’t you just say you don’t like it?” Edna asked curiously.

“I don’t want to deal with itchy ears all the time… As soon as Feng has free time, he’ll run over and keep talking to me about what features that car has, how great and interesting the little functions are… No matter how harshly I speak, he won’t give up.” Cunlü let out a cold laugh, “The last car, although I didn’t like it, I could barely tolerate it. After some persuasion, I just went along with it.

But the one he has his eyes on now… I don’t even want to lay eyes on it!

Want it parked in the garage at my house for me to look at every day? He’s dreaming in broad daylight!”

Edna tilted her head, deep in thought.

‘Old Age Striking King’ promptly said, “Edna, you’re not a child anymore, matters between men and women, apart from those too private that you’ll find in Shuni’s little book, you should know a bit about the rest.

The most important thing is, don’t learn from Cunlü.”

Edna put on her glasses, and softly laughed, “I know, you won’t find a man like Hard Wind in Toril.”

“Tch~” ‘Old Age Striking King’ hung her glasses on the star chain at the base of her high ponytail, which made her already youthful appearance even more lively… In fact, she preferred twin ponytails, but Baldy also liked them. After bumping into that style with him a few times, the Striking King chose to let her hair down instead.

“What’s so great about Hard Wind? He and Cunlü are just a match made in heaven, each with their quirks!

I just don’t want you to rush into a lifetime commitment with someone you don’t fully understand.” Checking herself out with a small mirror for a while, the satisfied Striking King calmly said, “In a place like Toril, strong people tend to live longer, so what’s the rush to determine your life’s partner?

Shouldn’t you have a good look first?

At the very least, your beliefs should align?”

Edna looked at her with confusion.

“What I’m saying is, you, though clever, are still very straightforward in nature, and should never find a lover who’s scheming behind your back,” Cunlü said decisively, “Don’t talk about enduring someone’s flaws out of love… that’s nonsense~

Endure all that, and what’s left of love?”

“See, Hard Wind and Cunlü have similar life and world views, so such little disagreements add to life’s fun,” ‘Old Age Striking King’ said nonchalantly, “Though you grew up around us, your strange teacher’s teachings were all native to Toril… I can sense how deeply she influences you.

Of course, you are Toril people after all, and shouldn’t be exactly like us… So if you choose a life like Elaströ’s, it wouldn’t be bad at all.”

“A bride every night, a new groom every night!” Cunlü said with a face filled with longing, “Who wouldn’t want that? If Hard Wind hadn’t grabbed me before I graduated… sigh~”

Edna was bewildered… how did the conversation shift from serious future education to this?

Then she suddenly realized… weren’t those people coming out of the store ahead ‘Snow Cloud Peak’, ‘Hard Wind’ and ‘Perfect Bald’?

However, ‘Hard Wind’ had long been used to Cunlü’s unfiltered words, so even though the people beside him were failing to suppress their laughter, he remained unfazed, even managing a silent composure… However, this confirmed for Edna that they certainly hadn’t heard the earlier part about the car.

‘Snow Cloud Peak’ looked left and right, smiling as he spoke, “Miss Edna, are we setting off for Candlekeep tomorrow morning?”

Edna nodded, “Of course, didn’t we agree on the ship already?”

“Then… those newcomers from Quel Senta, do they follow her or not? Or should we find a way to ditch them?” ‘Snow Cloud Peak’ had a sly smile, “We have many fun little tricks specifically for dealing with tails!”

Edna sighed, “Our shopping time is so short! How did they… manage to provoke you?”

She understood the limitations placed on the Undead Tribe… if it was just some verbal dispute, then the deity named William wouldn’t allow the Undead Tribe to strike first.

Especially when these women are carrying Mystra’s fragments… As long as William’s head is still on straight, he absolutely wouldn’t let the Undead Tribe make the first move.

“It’s nothing.” ‘Perfect Bald’ said with a chuckle, “It’s just… you know, sometimes when we get chatting happily, we like to hook arms.”

He shrugged his small shoulders: “And then when they came over to chat and got rejected, they probably thought Old Dog had some unique taste… said some odd things, and Old Dog didn’t want to get involved with them, so he pulled us away.

Then the more I thought about it, the angrier I got~”

‘Perfect Bald’ naturally straightened his twin ponytails, looking at ‘Old Age Striking King’s beautifully decorated silver glasses, “Ah, these glasses are quite nice! Do they have black gemstones?”

“Yes~” ‘Old Age Striking King’ casually glanced at him twice, “You could get another pair with white and silver gemstones for Liu Liu, they look good, and you can pair them… You should get two pairs, so you both can match your twin ponytails?”

‘Perfect Bald’ nodded heavily, “Anyway, there aren’t many lolis in Black Rose who like to style twin ponytails, for now, Liu Liu and I aren’t changing hairstyles.”

He smiled, squinted his eyes, “Haha~ Hehe~”

‘Old Age Striking King’ paused her hand… of course she knew what this guy was laughing about… Most lolis in Black Rose don’t want to share a hairstyle with their leader.

Originally being girls, no one wants to compete in beauty with a fake loli… Baldy loves dressing up, and if he loses, he must face the tragic world.

And other fake lolis also don’t want to dress similarly to Baldy… after all, Baldy’s enemies are too many… Fighting is nothing, but no one wants to take the blame.

Baldy may look rough, but is actually very shrewd, how could he not know about this?

“That’s just one reason.” ‘Snow Cloud Peak’ smiled, “The Northern Seven Sisters flew south from Icewind Valley, passing Luskan, but Laila didn’t return.

Passing by Deepwater City, instead, that Numia followed them.

I feel, they might… have gone to Candlekeep.”

Edna didn’t care where these people were heading, she just frowned slightly, troubled, “This… if they really destroy a city as they pass, will we be able to enter any city other than the Agleya region in the future?”

“Anyway, Toril is all controlled by the Tablets of Fate, right?” ‘Snow Cloud Peak’ said indifferently, “They can’t blame us? Whether it explodes or not is all destined.”

Edna nodded heavily… she truly felt Old Dog was right.

So, early the next morning, Andria happily raised the Cloud House.

She didn’t fly fast, but since she didn’t need to cross mountains and seas, by the time Edna arrived at Candlekeep, Manks, who left first, still had more than half a day’s journey left.

This gave Edna enough time to take a stroll around the magnificent library… she not only exchanged her admission ticket but also got them for her team members and the Undead Tribe.

Unfortunately, Elvia was denied entry.

Even though the books Edna presented were precious enough to make the person in charge’s eyes shine, he still insisted on holding his ground, only hoping to buy them at a high price.

Edna smiled slightly, finally agreeing to let her White Dragon friend wait outside, and decisively sold a stack of precious ancient manuscript copies.

The Scroll Mages in Candlekeep are not so by-the-rules people… as they usually do, as long as Elvia transforms into human shape, they would turn a blind eye.

So, surely those sisters are already sitting inside.

Edna couldn’t help but laugh as she entered the library, this kind of sarcastic day, wondering in the future… who will feel worse.

Anyway, the trip to Candlekeep, for Edna, was just to satisfy that self who thirsted for knowledge… the books here would surely appear in Josse Garden’s large study, but the reverse is not possible.

Compared to the yearning curious faces of Devis and the others, Edna didn’t really like her own feigned excitement at all.
