Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1233: Chapter 1024: 11 Pages Is the Limit

The silver magic script meandered slowly across the thin golden sheet, as if each word had a life of its own.

Hill quietly finished reading the first chapter and suddenly understood why the Weave, even the devils knew how to construct it.

The Toril Magic Net is merely the most perfect one within the Multiverse, but it is not the only one.

The opening chapter of this Nyscroll is about what kind of world’s Primordial Power can be represented by the Weave model, and if one does not want to live under the control of the Weave, how can this net be unraveled.

The simplest way is to let the deity controlling the Weave die a few more times… updating and iterating until she becomes increasingly unable to fully control the Weave, allowing it to become entirely autonomous… eventually forming its own consciousness.

And once the Weave becomes independent, it will inevitably want to become the world’s Controller, which is related to its inherent duty, and its ultimate confrontation will certainly be with the Creator God.

Unless the world’s Creator God completely disregards their status being usurped, there will inevitably be a great war… either the Creator God wins comprehensively, returning the Weave to its original primitive phase, where Mages, though no longer able to ascend so easily, will be free.

Or the Creator God wins a pyrrhic victory… which would then be the realm of the Arcanists and Magicians.

No need to say much about Magicians, as long as they resonate with a segment of the Weave, they naturally become innate Spellcasters.

As for Arcanists… even in the most chaotic Primordial Power, there is a rhythm, as long as they can discern that rhythm with their own abilities, they will surely become true powerhouses of that world, and even deities can only smile accommodatingly!

The chances of the Weave winning are nearly zero, but if it succeeds, the most likely outcome is becoming a true Low Magic World.

After all, the fall of the Creator God is not accompanied by some strong force dissipating throughout the world, but rather… it takes those energies away with its disappearance.

Hill silently lifted his head to glance at the three powerful Divine Powers curiously observing him, expressionlessly turning to the next chapter… what does this matter have to do with him as a Teraxil?

Their world, the designated Creator God is the World Tree, who draws a few bottom lines and then doesn’t care.

The designated manager is the Goddess of the Earth, who prefers sleeping… judging by the demeanor of the Earth Bear, one can tell what style this goddess prefers.

Silvermoon and the Sun, including Agleya, are the types that like to watch the fun but shy away from meddling.

The entire world is essentially autonomous… Elves belong to the Elf God, and Humans to the Human God.

The only enemies, besides the Demons and Devils that no one can tolerate, are Magical Beasts that both sides must combat… and who knows when these beasts might rise again.

After all… Merkel failed, and with the Undead Tribe present, the more rational Magical Beasts would rather form partnership contracts with them.

Teraxil never had such a complex environment as Toril, and neither individuals nor gods have the thought of toppling the Creator God.

However, Hill can understand why this Nyscroll’s end is to be shattered.

According to normal history, Midnight returned soon after… having just begun to understand the new Weave rules, only to have the rules broken and reorganized again.

The Archmages of Toril, driven to madness, wanting to destroy the Weave, is quite normal.

It is likely that at that time, seeking this Nyscroll was not limited to the deeply obsessed Arcanists from Shade Soul City.

Even though he had turned to the second page, Hill was pondering how the Nyscroll Black Eye possessed is a fragment, not as complete as this one… so she merely made supplements and modifications to some specific functions of the Weave.

If she had seen this, she probably wouldn’t have foolishly rushed through that door back then… after all, from this first chapter, it’s evident that Mystree’s fall, who created the Weave, was very likely an accident… with such choices, one can surmise she was indeed the only truly kind and beautiful goddess of Toril… but the Goddess of Magic that followed, are indeed ruthless, killing anyone with the capability.

Hill glanced over a few of the following chapters… Tsk, it’s about either killing a Divine Power existence or a Chosen One and the resulting aftermath, or how to transform pure wild magic energy or “Dark Fire” into Silverfire.

Truly… he didn’t even intend to examine them closely as he turned these few pages of gold paper.

Maybe his expression was too overt, which made Celene chuckle softly.

For Toril’s schemers, this is quite valuable knowledge.

But for Hill… what utterly tedious knowledge this is!

And for many Mages, the most important function of the Nyscroll to increase levels is meaningless to Hill.

He was constantly enveloped in a colorless and transparent spiritual power shield and a body protection of Natural Power, refusing any boost from the Nyscroll.

That is actually the energy converted by the Nyscroll from Toril’s Primordial Power, and Hill had no intention of accepting these benefits, remaining very cautious.

In fact, many deities and mages from outer worlds can achieve this while viewing the Nyscroll… after all, everyone understands that such benefits as leveling up while reading are never taken for free.

AO understands this too, so the Nyscroll is never mandatory… as long as your Mental Sea is stable enough and your rejection attitude firmly steadfast, it merely results in the Nyscroll consuming a lot of spiritual power while being read.

It’s just that… if it’s merely one or two chapters, many people wouldn’t mind becoming more closely linked to Toril as a result.

After all, the sensation of strength flowing into the body is quite gratifying.

Especially for the mages who are currently at a bottleneck, this dual enhancement of knowledge and power is indeed very useful for them.

So they don’t mind getting entangled with Toril for these benefits.

After all, this little entanglement is not enough to prevent them from leaving this world.

But aside from the guaranteed free knowledge, Hill doesn’t want any of it.

He can also control himself, not be tempted by that powerful force… You know, this stuff is enough to level up by just looking at a page!

With Hill’s spiritual power, reading 10 chapters is definitely not a problem.

A few more chapters, and his level might even compare to that Elminster whom he has always admired!

Fortunately for Hill, restraining himself in the face of upcoming power is a skill he has mastered since childhood.

He directly stuffed the golden pages describing the characteristics and essence of various deities in the multiverse at the bottom.

“Do you… really just want to be a mage, Hill?” Shaer asked softly, “I know some people respect the arcane, dislike constrained deities, and even have some disdain… but they wouldn’t completely disregard them like you do.

But didn’t you raise Agleya?”

Hill glanced at the Lady of the Night with confusion, then shook his head and smiled: “What I am doing is unrelated to future choices.

Respected Lady of the Night.

I just want to find my own path on the unknown roads and see my own conclusions.

I’m still young!

I do not wish to see others’ summaries of fundamental knowledge as the light of truth before even beginning.

After all… no matter how powerful the Nyscroll is, it’s still written by humans, isn’t it?”

Selene giggled twice and said very agreeably: “You’re right!

This thing, not only Toril, but many deities related to magic from other worlds also participated in its compilation.

But who would reveal all their trump cards?

No errors do not mean it’s the truth.”

Hill looked at her noncommittally, then continued flipping through the golden pages under his hand… Selene wouldn’t have said these words if Hill hadn’t shown disinterest in these knowledge.

In Toril, both deities and mortals consistently uphold the attitude of ‘not my business, not your business’.

He finally flipped to the part he was most interested in… Secret Arts Creations and High-level Creations.

The manufacturing methods of the Mithril Energy Core are in this part.

Stuffing some knowledge related to divine artifact manufacturing at the end… Hill plans to only carefully read these 10 chapters related to basic knowledge, as they pertain to the essence of power that he needs.

The rest can be left aside, being able to read 11 pages is thanks to his ‘Child of God’ status, Hill doesn’t intend to test the limits of his ability.

After all, other than Mystra’s chosen ones who are constantly exposed to the impacts of Magic Net Tides, even relatively powerful mages can only read eight pages, and mages with insufficient ability would go mad at the fifth page.

Moreover, the Nyscroll does not allow for selective reading within a page, the divine artifact will not permit such opportunistic behavior.

As for knowledge like divine artifact manufacturing, unless there’s that legendary exclusive key to unlock the next layer of the divine artifact, those are only half-understood knowledge, which is not necessary for him.

After all, the method of making demi-god artifacts of Teraxil is not weak.

After all, reading the Nyscroll requires not only spiritual power intensity but also the reader’s level of knowledge related to it.

People who understand nothing will only have an overloaded brain as a result.

One must know that once you go mad from reading the Nyscroll, even if you continue reading, there is no benefit. The madness induced by reading the scroll can usually be cured by magic, but the cost would be a severe compromise in the mortal’s magical abilities, like a few levels decrease in casting rank compared to before reading the scroll, or a high possibility of completely losing the ability to cast spells.

Hill glanced at the giant screen, Tampas’ victory was imminent, and Edna’s clouds had started to traverse the World’s Ridge.

The actors in Icewind Valley were about to take their places.

Before then, he hoped to finish one page, summoned his crystal pen and record book with a wave, and Hill buried himself in magical research.

And those who do not know that the Nyscroll has already surfaced are currently daydreaming enthusiastically about their glorious future… what if… they got lucky and snatched a few pages?
