Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1240: Chapter 1031: Edna Prepares for the Next Journey

Looking at Usga, who still seemed a bit defiant, Tampas said coldly, ”Do you think I would stand against Shaer for you? Or perhaps against that Lord of Agleya who can even send Talos running away?

This Path of Destiny, I cannot see where the future leads... nor even how long it will last!

This incarnation is the only power I can wield on Toril!

I would rather help you rebuild your faith later than sacrifice this incarnation!

You need to understand one thing, Usga!

We of the War God lineage may not be involved in much turmoil, but we don’t have allies either!

We can only rely on ourselves to slowly explore the path we must take, and if we’re not careful... it could be the end of us.

You wouldn’t want to be neighbors with Rose one day, right?”

The barbarian Ancestral God held his axe and was stunned for a moment, then suddenly shivered, but still insisted, ”But, Father God, what if the Undead Tribe does something to harm our barbarians? I... cannot tolerate that!

It is my duty to protect the barbarians!”

”It’s fine that you remember your duty... but have you never observed your neighbors?

Haven’t they been active in the White Dragon territory of the World’s Ridge for years?

Even in the mountains where might makes right, and the victor rules, they abide by the rules, staying solely within the territory of the White Dragon Queen and her subordinates, never infringing on the lands of other races. Their moral baseline is much higher than that of your barbarians!”

He glanced at the still-stubborn Usga, who hadn’t comprehended yet, and forcefully turned his head forward, speaking with a tolerant expression, ”If it’s truly the fault of the Undead Tribe.

Then tell the Red Knight to complain to the Divine Artifact in the Alchemy Hall first!” Tampas gritted his teeth to calm his irritable mood, speaking with a calm face, ”If he can’t resolve it, then go find that Lord of Agleya.

If that still doesn’t work, then it’s as if they’re our enemies in the War God lineage.

My concession is for our safety.

But if... the other party pushes their luck, I am still a powerful Divine Power known for battle...”

He almost sighed at last... If it were the Red Knight, there would be no need for such explicit words; she would understand his hint that the Undead Tribe abides by the rules.

Usga thought about it and found it acceptable, thus nodding heavily, ”Alright! I’ll gather those Clan Leaders and explain it to them clearly.”

Tampas sternly warned his foolish son, ”Remember to tell them as well that the Undead Tribe has a Divine Artifact that can monitor their every move, and it’s ready to be verified and shown to everyone at any time.

So... false accusations are utterly intolerable behavior, do you understand?”

Usga wanted to say that barbarians are the most sincere, honest, humble, and loyal, and would never deceitfully harm others... but later realized this was his Father God, with no room for argument or necessity, so he obediently nodded.

”Get lost!” The helpless Tampas could only send him off with these two words in the end.

Usga quickly fled with his axe... He felt his Father God might have an urge to thrash him.

The troubled Tampas had no choice but to continue observing... Even if that Manks isn’t Mystra, there must be fragments of the Goddess of Magic on her.

No matter its extent... at least the real Mystra would surely be drawn to her presence.

That is a resonance of the soul that nothing can obstruct.

If Midnight has no memory, she might even feel good about Manks, but if she does, she would surely harbor hostility... She would definitely want to reclaim these scattered soul fragments.

Unless Midnight’s soul is completely intact... How could that be? The fragments are all on Manks!

Tampas then observed that Edna for a while.

Although Manks wandered around her and the Undead Tribe, buying many items, that brown-haired Female Mage didn’t even glance at that black-haired girl adorned with jewelry, dressed lavishly.

Moreover, Edna dressed very plainly... When she came to Icewind Valley, she wore a dress and luxurious accessories, but soon she entered the house of the Undead Tribe and changed into a simple white Mage Robe.

Her hair was tied up with a star chain commonly used by Mithril Elves.

Her attire was not as extravagant as those Undead Tribe female warriors around her.

Women... even his daughter, the calm Red Knight, when facing a woman she dislikes, always hopes to win in all aspects, especially appearance.

Even the color of gemstones needs to be considered against her eyes.

Honestly, Tampas never thought those peculiar gemstone accessories matched her Stardust Stone eyes.

But he always knew when to keep his mouth shut... unlike that foolish Tom, who actually responded to the Red Knight... If not for that boy’s chess skills, he would’ve been abandoned by the Red Knight long ago!

And Edna’s behavior was clearly indifferent... If she were truly Mystra, then why? Based on what?

Tampas felt as though he was surrounded by a haze.

And the one seemingly content amidst the fog was quite pleased.

Edna didn’t care how many people or gods were speculating about her identity. As long as she kept her mouth shut and didn’t mention it, and those three at the floating castle continued to behave under AO’s watch, she could play dead forever.

Too bad, AO would make her slip up sooner or later. Just thinking about it... was frustrating.

But before that happened, she was really glad to have Manks around... Look at how many people were trailing behind her, circling around the small square where the undead tribe set up their stalls!

Click click~

Actually, the truly valuable stuff reclaimed by the undead tribe had long been bought by the earlier waves of people. Now, they were selling the garbage that even Hill wouldn’t take, which had been sitting in their bags for ages.

Especially those dry branches and leaves that had clearly been kept for a long time; as long as they had a bit of beautiful pattern or slightly yellow color, even if they cost a gold coin each, a lot of mages were sweeping them up.

Edna thought the undead tribe seemed like they were slaughtering pigs now... Most of these pigs even claimed to be followers of the Magic Net.

Clearly, pigs following the Nyscroll, yet they insisted on wrapping themselves in sheepskin!

The only consolation was that these pigs were currently following Manks.

Hehe~

Edna controlled her impulse to look at Manks... Although she could now tolerate this imposter who popped out of nowhere, too obvious a schadenfreude would also easily expose her identity.

But if she was exposed for such a stupid reason... just thinking about the thunderous laughter that might erupt on the floating castle, Edna could control all her expressions and actions.

She looked up at the sky and then at the mountain where the God of War stood solemnly... She no longer believed she could find that Nyscroll in Icewind Valley.

Edna believed those Princes of the Shadow Souls must be hiding in the distance, observing the situation here at all times; otherwise, those sisters wouldn’t be alertly circling overhead every day, ready to battle at any time.

But now, it seemed both sides had put down their preparations for a big battle that seemed imminent.

Either it was carried away by some lucky guy, or maybe it never was in Icewind Valley to start with, and those Princes of the Shadow Souls were tricked again.

However, Edna thought the first possibility was more likely... Really, if the Princes of the Shadow Souls could still be fooled after being tricked a few times, she would never again consider the minds of the undead as being slightly more calm.

Aren’t the emotions of undead supposed to be gone? So they shouldn’t be that impulsive, right?

Edna actually didn’t care if the Nyscroll appeared... There was definitely related knowledge about it on the Weave anyway.

If Manks wasn’t so young and low-level, he wouldn’t show such covetousness for that thing: Although the knowledge wasn’t very useful, its ability to aid in leveling up was still there.

She didn’t really care how deep her connection with the Weave was, at least not on the surface.

Edna was just a bit regretful that her library plan might fail.

As for Old Dog’s concerns that the Hidden Town might not withstand strong divine power attacks... like those from Talos. After all, Hill could only handle it at this stage; what if that guy’s true form descended in the future?

You can’t keep asking Hill to open his mouth every day and ask other deities for help, right?

Owing too many favors would be a bit difficult.

Unlike Agleya, where Celene and Shaer were permanent residents, and the Tower of the Dawn had a good relationship with them, Lansendel definitely wouldn’t mind helping out, easily driving people away in passing.

Temporarily speechless, Edna could only smile and say in the words of the undead tribe, ’When the cart arrives at the mountain, there will be a way.’

The Snow Old Dog had also reached a consensus with her... they’d study the placement issue after obtaining the item.

Edna wasn’t worried at all whether this discussion would be pointless: Anyway, that thing would appear when it was supposed to.

Edna had a strong premonition... that old man would definitely give her a big gift.

Moreover, the Nyscroll, since Manks was so interested, it would definitely appear.

How would that old man miss an opportunity to exploit Manks to the fullest, skin him, and use him as much as possible?

”Edna,” Leonard said as he returned after scouring through the goods, ”When are we leaving Icewind Valley? The Nyscroll probably isn’t here, right?”

”What did you buy?” Edna didn’t answer, but asked him instead... Do the undead tribe have any decent stuff left to sell?

”Some interesting seeds,” Leonard smiled and said, ”They said Hill likes to collect all kinds of plants, preferably seeds.

But sometimes they forget about them in their bags, so now they’re clearing out their inventory at the stalls; they’re all things Hill already has, and the purchase prices aren’t high.”

Edna nodded... The undead tribe had a strange insistence that the stalls mustn’t be too empty, and if the things they’re selling couldn’t fill the space, they’d definitely put something else to fill it up.

Then she cheerfully replied, ”We’ll leave when the undead tribe’s side finishes.”

’The Old Age Striking King’ is at the stall too!

Edna didn’t want to interrupt her friend’s enthusiasm.

She looked south... and also wondered how was Elvia communicating with Arausato?
