Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1206: Chapter 997: Edna’s Little Schemes

“So… don’t you also have to see if your target can be easily dealt with?

I don’t think you will succeed.

When things go south, remember to set off a couple of lightning fireworks for us to see, dear Storm God.” Dove shrugged nonchalantly, her fingers flicking swiftly… Three arrows shot from the mithril longbow, heading straight for Talos’ newly scarred eye.

As she expected, although Talos wasn’t afraid of her long arrows, he instinctively dodged to protect his sole eye.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Dove swiftly drew her bow twice more… once aiming at Karagos, and once at Duogasos.

“Talos!” Karagos, being more confident than the head-buried-in-the-fight Duogasos, showed a more assertive attitude towards the Storm God, “Since when did you become so compassionate towards women? Don’t forget what you promised me!”

The Storm God snorted coldly, a pair of frost-wreathed longswords appearing in his hands… As a Chosen of the Goddess of Magic, Dove was naturally immune to electric attacks.

Though the intelligence of the Seven Sisters varied, there was still news in Ferun in this regard, at least as far as the deities were concerned.

So Talos never planned to face off against the most calm and rational commander among these Seven Sisters.

Not to mention, this lady was already renowned for her mastery in swordsmanship and archery.

The Storm God’s notorious personality was known to all: he was brutal only to the weak. As long as one appeared tough and unafraid of death, with the courage to fight to the bitter end, even a demigod could drive away his true form.

The Seven Sisters of Mystra feared not death.

As long as the Weave existed, their souls could not be stolen by any demons or evil gods… Although Black Eye’s death was rather complete, fragments of her soul actually existed in every corner of the Weave.

Ever protective, she would still safeguard her offspring, even if no longer conscious herself.

Poor Little Edna, cursed by her pure bloodline… Even though their lineage differed, Elaströ was supposed to address Black Eye as mother too.

However, Black Eye merely borrowed their mother’s identity, so the bond was tenuous, yet the Northern Seven Sisters being born Chosen proved it all.

Conversely, Edna’s father, receiving love from both parents, lived more freely than these Chosen.

Possessing great power yet without the responsibilities of a Chosen, he could enjoy freedom, much like Elminster, the first Chosen of Mystree, who could travel freely across worlds.

But a Chosen could not leave the Weave’s control at will.

If Midnight didn’t harbor enmity toward Azuth, why else would she go to Silvermoon City to scout the enemy, instead of occasionally appearing at Quel Senta and otherwise wandering the world?

But Edna, distanced from both sides, would never be noticed by either Azuth or the soul shards within the Weave.

Toril held no ties for distant generations.

If parents were irresponsible, then one had to rely on their own destiny.

Hill watched quietly as Dove, engulfed in battle with Talos on the colossal screen, filled with doubts about this Path of Destiny.

AO surely understood why Black Eye divided her power among so many Chosen… Her bond with the Weave was exceedingly tight, and as the Weave grew stronger, she stood a chance of becoming a great Divine Power.

But Toril couldn’t accommodate two great Divine Powers… Black Eye didn’t wish to become the next Tai Ji.

This matter should be a shared understanding between AO and Black Eye, which the deities of Toril knew full well.

Even Midnight, with unresolved feelings toward the previous Goddess of Magic, was well aware, and never considered reclaiming the Silverfire from a certain Chosen.

Moreover, as her power grew, Midnight would certainly follow in her predecessor’s footsteps, continuously dividing her power.

Confronting the Creator held brutal historical lessons, the wide repercussions of Lansendel’s Dawn Calamity were well-known.

Yet why did the Tablets of Fate involve all of Mystra’s Chosen?

It was as if testing their loyalty, or perhaps filtering something.

Hill furrowed his brow but immediately smoothed it, smiling gently at the giant screen, secretly contemplating AO’s intent.

This God Above Gods had ever-changing ideas, always experimenting with something new on Toril… Although more adherent to rules, letting people know the benefits to strive for, how many could resist such enormous temptations?

Just like the Three Gods of Death, Bane might have a tongue of lotus blossoms, but Milko and Baal had to believe themselves!

Especially Milko, how powerful this God of Death was at the time!

The Grim Reaper needed no followers, only mortals’ fear of death to grow ever stronger… In that era, due to the deities’ inaction, Toril Continent suffered grievous losses and casualties.

Oh, no wonder people speculated the emergence of the Three Gods of Death was Jacob’s probe of AO, only for AO to simply utilize them to orchestrate a Path of Destiny.

Indeed, Jacob remained Jacob, not as unfortunate as Tai Ji or the ambitious Amanata, yet the gods he selected vanished without a trace, eventually becoming the fortunate individuals on AO’s Path of Destiny.

The resurrected Bane is not the Bane of the past… Moreover, as the initiator of that Path of Destiny, who knows if Bane is innocent or not?

But in the end, he not only resurrected but also directly became a powerful Divine Power, didn’t he?

Look at how Amanata reappeared! See how pitiful he looks!

Although Amanata offended too many deities, if not for AO’s suppression, he would have been killed the moment he showed up… Allowing him to enter the Sun completely is considered normal.

But does Bane have fewer enemies? Look at Baal’s resurrection! A mess on the ground is not enough to describe his path of resurrection… Those so-called Children of Bhaal are just puppets on a stage, every move isn’t theirs but just for the audience’s amusement.

Even Ambori wouldn’t believe it if you said Bane had no tricks!

Hill can only sincerely hope that this inspiration didn’t come from William or the Undead Tribe to this God Above Gods.

At this moment, a giant screen silently appeared.

Although what appeared in front was Kelben wielding magic fiercely in mid-air, the voice from within the screen was Arausato’s joyful one: “According to our previous agreement, as long as I deliver you to the battlefield, you will give me an extra 1000 Gold Coins, right?”

“Of course, that’s the agreed reward.” A familiar voice to Hill responded, “Arausato, I don’t have gemstones, so I can only pay in Gold Coins.

The original agreement was just for you to deliver us, but if you’re available, could you take us back as well? I’ll pay the same reward as before.

Just wait atop the Ice Mountain for us to call you.”

“5000 Gold or 6000 Gold?” Arausato asked solemnly.

“Of course, calling for a ride incurs extra pay, 6000!” The Undead Tribe member replied equally solemnly.

“Deal!” The Ancient White Dragon’s voice was filled with joy.

“Just carry this Hummingbird with you, it’ll let you know when you’re needed.” The Undead member said with a grin.

“Damn! This Magic Sword is lazily useless!” On another screen, ‘Snow Cloud Peak’ sighed helplessly.

“Isn’t the Magic Sword halfway experienced now?” ‘Old Age Striking King’ turned to ask, “And, who is the Priest accompanying him? Little Deer?”

“Little Deer and Liu Liu both went.” ‘Hard Wind’, who had been standing silently in the back, answered, “Liu Liu will log off once she arrives, she can only be online for about two hours per day now.

It’s perfect, if the Magic Sword team gets wiped out, they can wait for Liu Liu to finish feeding her child and log back in to rescue them.”

“No wonder the Magic Sword is so spirited and cocky.” ‘Old Age Striking King’ paid no mind to ‘Hard Wind’s evasiveness, “Old Dog, did Little Deer break up with that foolish Knight from your family?”

“How do you want me to answer that!” ‘Snow Cloud Peak’ said a bit exasperatedly, “How could I manage their personal affairs?

But rest assured, Little Deer’s type is mature, stable, and charming men, or at least those who can be described as dashing and elegant. The likes of the Magic Sword, with only the ‘Gangster’ attribute, stand no chance.”

Seated next to Edna, ‘Old Age Striking King’ couldn’t help but turn back to gaze at ‘Snow Cloud Peak’: “Old Dog… Do you really have to use such a stark contrast to highlight Magic Sword can’t catch any girl’s heart?

Did he offend you?”

‘Snow Cloud Peak’ blinked his eyes: “I rather think he might have offended you? Ah… The Young Master will learn about your news from him, won’t he?

They’ve always been thick as thieves.”

‘Old Age Striking King’ stared at him: “Don’t let me catch you.”

Edna lightly placed her hand on ‘Old Age Striking King’s forearm, which instantly looked very powerful as he turned his head forward: “Did he offend you? Would you like me to… cast a Berserk Art on him?”

‘Old Age Striking King’ shook his head: “Not yet, but I feel he’s stirring trouble. Just wait! Tch~ He’s always been ruthless, but unfortunately not lucky, he’ll slip up sooner or later.”

“Benshasha must like him very much.” Edna pondered for a moment, then sincerely offered a blessing.

“Edna… constantly brings me new surprises every day!” Celene was about to press her face against the screen.

Although the battles on both sides were very fierce, the three Gods in the Floating Castle each focused their attention on Miss Edna.

After all, now in the Toril Gods, they may not be watching the Icewind Valley battle… Most deities aren’t very interested in the solitary Tampas.

But they will definitely keep an eye on the battle at Deepwater City.

Shaer rested her arm on the back of the chair, her left hand supporting her cheek, and said lightly: “How wonderful! The old man loves kids who know how to behave!

The livelier Toril gets, the happier he is, right?”

Celene turned her head, Silvermoon slowly floated back to its original position: “Indeed, Bane and Cyric are the old man’s favorites!”

Hill quietly drank a glass of wine: You two are really something, always demonstrating that you’re cotton-padded jackets made of fishing nets!
