Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1217: Chapter 1008: Deepwater City in a Time of Crisis

”What did Lady Mistral see in him?” Luca asked seriously, ”He seems useful but is actually full of trouble, isn’t he?”

Edna didn’t respond. She also wondered what Midnight thought... Even though their memories were almost shared, there were some inner dramas of Midnight that she only understood superficially.

Perhaps the Midnight deep in the soul didn’t want her reincarnation to see her foolishness too clearly.

Tsk.

Edna thought about it and could understand her feelings.

Besides, Kelben wasn’t bad to use either, but after getting involved with a Safras, he turned into an idiot.

The result was... making Midnight also seem like a fool.

However, Midnight, who had internal conflicts among her subordinates but didn’t know a thing, wasn’t that smart either.

Edna gently shook her head, as if she didn’t hear the sound of water, relieved, she continued to look at the tablet on the table. Although she wasn’t very concerned about the lives of those few, since they were her future subordinates, she had to see their performances to decide which one to resurrect when the time came.

As for Kelben, forget it. Wait for the next time the Tablets of Fate stir up trouble, then consider resurrecting him and sending him on the Path of Destiny.

After all, even if those electors died, they could find something to possess as ghosts. And taking back the Silverfire to completely let him disappear, Edna felt she wasn’t that ruthless... After all, other electors would pay attention to her attitude towards former electors and what they left behind.

Edna wasn’t willing to cause trouble for herself because of that guy.

As she knew, the only one who had their elector status revoked was that Samast, who still had remnants and toxins surviving after being dead for so long.

If he hadn’t insisted on killing Elaströ and possessing Mystra, who was attached to the Supreme Lady of Silvermoon, even if this guy had created the Dragon Worship Church, even if he directly attacked Lansendel and even wounded that powerful Divine Power with Silverfire, Samast’s elector status wouldn’t have been revoked.

Tsk, Ai... In fact, her worldview is more like the Undead Tribe... Denah couldn’t understand what Black Eye was thinking.

Can strong ability cover up the baseness of one’s character?

Even if it’s lawful neutral, how can you have such a malicious guy in your subordinates?

But, after all, the past is already reality. There are some things related to too much, and too wide, even if she takes the position, she cannot change.

Edna could only choose to observe silently, then find two electors that could be somewhat useful among them, and leave other affairs to new electors she personally selects.

Once the followers of Toril feel what type this new Goddess of Magic prefers, naturally, someone will act accordingly.

Tsk, although Kelben looks tragic, the mages wanting to be bound by the Weave are countless!

Does it mean she can only use those old folks?

She’s not like Midnight who blindly excludes the Evil Faction... She’s the woman who wants to ascend with the White Dragon!

Who can say she’s excluding evil?

But choosing subordinates according to her own preferences, what opinion could AO have?

If she can’t even have this bit of freedom, why is she being this Goddess of Magic?

Edna thought that if Midnight learned from Kranvo, in rules reckless approach of doing things, maybe a lot of things wouldn’t have happened.

After all, instinct-driven barbaric creatures sometimes have an easier time getting through.

She pursed her lips and continued to watch on the tablet at Elaströ, who was squandering the Arcane Missile magic wand... This lady was actually quite wise and wouldn’t take risks for the sake of being stingy with property.

In Deepwater City, if neither side has any backup plans, it might just be a backdrop... Of course, there could be some conspiracy brewing, after all, Neverwinter had already blown up, and the thunder over Deepwater City hasn’t come down yet.

But at least on the surface, everyone’s performance is clear... Kelben is the one most likely to be taken out, after all, his luck is obviously poor.

In Toril, when big things happen, it’s always back and forth, never-ending trouble, sometimes even someone unrelated suddenly interferes... but this has nothing to do with her, just watch the fun.

So even with Xinbu’s rampant laughter filling her ears, Edna still tried to keep her focus on the tablet.

Nasir, however, was constantly trying to locate that Cyric cultist—the competitive mindset was evident to everyone... Colleagues indeed repel each other.

As expected by observers, this almost day-and-night battle was very boring... Though the undead tribe behind them all moved their chairs to sit, they had no idea how many times they had been changed.

Of course, the side over in Icewind Valley was surprising... the magic wand in Elaströ’s hand hadn’t run out yet.

The clever Nasir gave up searching for Dark Sun Followers and instead got in touch with the undead tribe behind his sofa... Colleagues can be eliminated anytime, but a boss who funds is always to be cherished.

Edna and the ’Old Age Striking King’ started creating their mithril elf headbands... the kind with dazzling, multi-colored, starlight-twirling lights; they were researching which combination of colors looked the most harmonious when glowing.

However, everyone was stunned by a loud explosion coming from underground.

”An earthquake!” A scream broke the stilled hall.

”Save me!” The cries for help from civilians echoed outside the rotunda.

”Talos!” Dove furiously drew her Knight’s Greatsword and charged at the Storm God opposite her, ”How could you be so cruel! How do you expect the hundreds of thousands living in Deepwater City to survive?”

”It’s none of my business!” The Storm God, equally surprised, hurriedly dodged, ”Wait a minute! I’m not stupid! The destruction of Deepwater City is related to the Tablets of Fate!

Why would I get involved in that!

I only came to take Xinbu away!”

Edna calmly looked up and observed: Karagos also seemed quite surprised, not even taking the opportunity to chase the Storm Queen while she was dumbfounded.

As for Duogasos, it was even more exaggerated. It swatted a storm aside with its tail, mindlessly trying to burrow underground, ”Ahhh! Damn it, who did this! My treasure!”

Numia was stunned for a moment before speaking, ”Such a huge earthquake! The underground open spaces have long since collapsed. It was only by my support of the hall that we weren’t buried alive together.

Duogasos! You don’t need to dig anymore, it’s useless, all the passages are sealed.

The Black Dragon Lich roared wildly, filled with endless regret, and leapt fiercely, squeezing past Talos as it bashed its way forward.

No amount of scheming could compare to a single gold coin of his. Amanata was nothing compared to his treasure trove!

Useless Talos, clueless about such a massive earthquake... what good is he?

Perhaps it’s time to seek allegiance with another power!

”The people of Deepwater City, they should be alright, right?” Leonard asked Gendilarei softly, ”Didn’t they all start evacuating once the fighting began?”

”Of course, they’ve long since left, nobody’s a fool.

Most of the nobles and merchants went to Baldur’s Gate.” Gendilarei chuckled, ”Those who thought themselves noble went with the Silver Temple’s people to Agleya.”

”You think that Eclipse Elect is out there double-crossing?” Nasir was still thinking about his fellow practitioner, ”Or are they behind this massive spectacle?”

”Gendilarei!” someone shouted from beyond the clouds... it was that High-Level follower of Heim.

Edna promptly canceled her isolation spell.

”What’s up?” the Morninglight Elect asked without turning around.

”That situation over in Icewind Valley, can you show us?” The treasure shop owner looked grim, his tone serious, ”I hope to see a satisfactory conclusion early.”

”Aren’t you going to check on your own shop?” Now Gendilarei was curious.

”There’s no fool in Deepwater City.” Olasco broke into an odd smile, ”On the first day of the round table fight, everyone had already taken away what they needed.

Besides, knowing Deepwater City is bound for disaster sooner or later, who would leave anything good here?

Everyone can leave with just one bag.

Those who don’t know... likely haven’t even repaired their burnt-down shops yet, and they wouldn’t have much either.

Houses, these things... are only expensive because of the city’s status; otherwise, they’re just piles of broken stones.”

This was also why the Mistrala Electors hadn’t gone out... no one from the Silver Temple came to watch the commotion, focusing instead on urging people in the slums to temporarily evacuate to Agleya; by now, everyone who should leave had already left.

The cries for help outside were mostly those trying to take advantage of the chaos, little thief ruffians hoping to fish in troubled waters while the big figures either left or stayed in the rotunda to watch.

At this point, no one would care about them.

Dove’s anger wasn’t truly about the destruction of Deepwater City, but rather the earthquake they’ve caused... how could the impoverished citizens of Deepwater City have the means to relocate to another city?

They were waiting for Deepwater City’s fate to unfold so they could move back and live there.

Moreover, the departure of a large number of the wealthy could leave behind considerable survival supplies, at least enabling these poor folks to wait until the day Deepwater City thrived again.

Yet this massive earthquake, felt even by the magically protected rotunda, had ended all that.

The poor who had relied on thriving Deepwater City for hundreds or thousands of years, those true natives who had survived even pirate invasions a millennium ago, really had no choice but to leave home this time.

Edna turned to whisper a few words to the ’Old Age Striking King,’ who nodded in his sky-blue Lolita dress: ”There is, indeed, but... it requires energy baryte! We... never do a losing deal.

Deepwater City... is almost gone, right?”

Gendilarei quickly responded, ”If there’s energy baryte, can we see things more clearly in Icewind Valley?”

The ’Old Age Striking King’ was about to answer when a roar suddenly interrupted them.

”It’s Black Robe! Halaster the Black Robe somehow rushed back from the Outer Realm!” a blue-robed Mage burst into the rotunda, shouting at the top of his lungs.
