Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1221: Chapter 1012: A Toast to Fate

Nasray was calculating the time in his heart; the people on the Deepwater City side were estimated to delay at most for another day.

The ones over there did not intend to offend Mystra too much. As long as those women fought desperately, Talos would probably retreat too.

Although he earnestly wanted to reach for Mystra’s magic divinity, after being taught a lesson twice, he became much more cautious!

Xinbu actively seeking allegiance and being captured by him are two different concepts.

Even if there’s a new Goddess of Magic who has no feelings for her predecessor’s Chosen, she still has more than a half chance to save face by making a strong first impression after taking office… This first strike must show all of Toril her power.

It’s not the first time the Goddess of Magic has changed hands. Who doesn’t know that little routine?

So cunning fellows like Talos cannot possibly fight with full force. He’s just trying to show his importance to Xinbu and cause a bit of trouble for Mystra.

The main purpose, of course, is to kill Kelben, who is greatly admired by Mystra.

Back then, Mystra and Azuth teamed up to remove Visaron, making the Storm God lose face. Isn’t revenge a given?

Even though he was the first to reach into someone else’s domain of divine rights.

But if he were reasonable, he wouldn’t be an evil god.

However, Talos is inherently cowardly… Ah! The Fury Camp is composed of cowards, which is Toril’s misfortune, but in some ways, it’s a good thing… right?

At least, they can be predictably utilized.

Therefore, in making his move this time, Talos plans to leave a new path for Xinbu… If the new Mystra suppresses the Seven Sisters, the Fury Camp would absolutely welcome this equally temperamental Storm Queen’s addition.

The black dragon was brought in by Talos.

Karagos… Tsk, no spine to set foot in Icewind Dale, and not enough nerve to expend too much divine power.

Nasray sighed. If Marko really could hold out for another day, he guessed he’d have to think of another plan.

Anyway, by agreement, his task was completed, and the reward could already be safely pocketed.

As for whether it’s Marko or Kelben, those are just bonus tasks, achievable or not, it’s fate.

Speaking of which, Deepwater City holding on for so long surprised even him… he noticed Elaströ was also stalling for time.

But originally, they expected that they would be dealing with four Chosen, and Numia had left home a half month ago.

So, the preparations here in Icewind Dale were the most thorough.

However, some things had to wait until those Chosen entered Icewind Dale to start… Ideally, they should lure out Tampas or his son and daughter first.

Otherwise, no one would foolishly enter a place that could cost them their life, would they?

Nasray glanced at the distant mountains… Even if the unforeseen in Deepwater City held up among the foursome of Chosen until now, it wouldn’t last, right?

Why haven’t those fellows made a move yet?

What are they waiting for?

Even if Tampas doesn’t come down, Kelben has to remain, right?

Otherwise, wouldn’t all the wealth they spent pulling off such a big stunt be wasted?

Nasray was utterly baffled, not knowing Deepwater City was beyond ruin already.

Elaströ was a bit at a loss too; she couldn’t help but ask Laila: “How could Deepwater City be fighting for this long?

The four of them teaming up… and still couldn’t win?

Who else would go there to contend?

Except for Duogasos, who didn’t take part in creating Dragon Madness, no one from the Dragon Worship Church should enter Deepwater City, right?

Though the Steel Dragons suffered greatly due to the Agleya incident, Shalan Weilos hasn’t done anything.

She promised me that she would stop other dragon liches from entering Deepwater City!

Could your lord… do you think?”

Laila silently shook her head: “Our Lord of Agleya, although he dislikes Kelben, wouldn’t harm innocent people.

Even in economic warfare, he lets through civilian necessities related to survival.

Otherwise, small merchants in Deepwater City probably couldn’t even afford chickens and ducks.

If not, Kelben wouldn’t have lasted to this day either.

Hehe~ When I left the Black Staff Tower, those lower apprentices could eat nothing but fish.”

Then she said joyously: “However, in Luskan, I can eat lychees from the Suolong Continent, truffles from Xiyang Earth!

Not to mention chocolate and tea, they can be bought and used at any time… There’s everything in Agleya City’s fruit and vegetable shops, I can order from the menu, and someone will sail over to deliver it!

Even if some of Luskan’s poor civilians don’t have much money, if needed, they can ask the priestesses of Olypher to carry goods, even though they can only live outside the city, the lord does not prohibit them from entering the city for jobs.”

The Black Staff helplessly stopped drawing his bow and arrow, wiping his face with one hand… Did Laila forget that the one who lost the economic war, with even his apprentices having to eat the worst fish, was him.

Even if they had a fallout, they are still a couple!

What’s the point of gloating like this?

Laila caught his movement from the corner of her eye, curled her lips, and had a hint of a sneer on her face, “So! No matter how much you scheme, without that fate, you have to accept it!”

Her resentment was obvious… The reason Kelben was targeted by the Path of Destiny is because of his previous two resurrections. She of course knew this; even someone like Hillen who resurrected once wouldn’t dare to leave Shadow Valley. Kelben, resurrected twice, surely wouldn’t have a good outcome.

Yet Laila, because of her love, was willing to officially become his wife, despite knowing all these past events.

Instead of doing as Elaströ advised, just being lovers for a few hundred years, and leaving it at that.

In Elaströ’s view, those who live long must heed the lessons of their elders.

That any love, after hundreds or thousands of years, becomes just mosquito blood.

Better to entangle yourself while love exists and leave promptly when the love fades.

Moreover… knowing full well the mess that surrounds the Black Staff, isn’t she afraid that he’ll come home one day, his face covered in blood, crying?

But back then, Laila was indeed filled with passion… Even knowing if she had children with Kelben, they might get entangled, she had no regrets.

But what has Kelben done!

How many sinister and vicious things did he do to struggle out of fate… Indeed, he didn’t shift alignment, after all, those were just borderline moves.

But she… how could she not understand?

But… Laila couldn’t help but sigh. It was only after she realized Elaströ had been badly tricked that she finally gave up her indecision.

Indeed, only when one gets hurt themselves, do they understand the pain.

Kelben silently looked at his wife, then raised his bow again, “Fate is indeed unpredictable. I too… have learned my lesson deeply.

Those who toy with fate, ah, even deities, don’t meet a good end!”

His eyes were cold, seemingly seeing that mysterious transparent God holding the Light Ord, as his right hand released… an incredibly powerful Magic-Breaking Arrow almost instantly appeared in front of Nasray.

Quickly swapping with a small Bone Dragon, Nasray felt his Soul Fire was about to explode.

How does someone like Kelben still have such a strong presence?

“Has Kelben realized he’s a fool, turned into a soggy mess by that con artist?” Celene asked curiously.

Indeed, it’s either always boring or all the excitement at once!

“By now, he has no other choices, he can only endure,” Shaer said blandly, “Since he prepared a soul-annihilating spell for himself on that path, he probably sensed something was amiss.

Ha~ regrets… are the least useful thing.”

“I don’t think he’s too regretful,” Lansendel chuckled, “It’s just… he can’t stand that his wife is living better than ever after leaving home.”

Hill curled his lips, said nothing, took out a bottle of crystal-clear ‘Crystal Mystery’, poured himself a glass, and drank it with a smile.

Though since coming to Toril, he’s had plenty of fine wine, he still believes that celebrations deserve the wines from his homeland.

It’s just a shame… there’s no Wuliangye nor Jiannanchun.

Halaster glanced thoughtfully at the three sisters over there and Numia… It seems the reason he was allowed in this time was to make these few stay in Deepwater City.

Has the Tablets of Fate been angered by Kelben?

Not likely, is it?

Who sent on the Path of Destiny doesn’t resist? Even deities would go mad!

History isn’t short of supporting roles who were destined to die, finding solace after performing their role… Back then, didn’t the Shuni Priest teammate of Midnight live quite well?

Right, that guy named something with ‘Ai’ is now an Archbishop in which of Mystra’s churches?

He glanced again at Manks, who was diligently using the ‘Shadow Restriction’ spell against the ghosts around him, feeling a bit uneasy, his fingers itching… Should he throw a Shadow Charms over?

Edna fixed her gaze on the huge screen and the chattering few sisters, seemingly making some plan.

Suddenly, she felt a bit enlightened… It seems all the things happening in Deepwater City and Icewind Valley are meant to fulfill that prophecy ‘Kelben must die, Deepwater City must fall’, but in reality, it allowed her to understand Mystra’s Chosen better.

If Midnight had seen these events these days, she probably wouldn’t have disliked the Northern Seven Sisters that much… even if they were closely related to the former Mystra.

Their spirited and independent nature actually aligns with Midnight’s desires… But Midnight never tried to understand them… at most heard of Elaströ’s tales comparable to Black Eye’s flirtations.

And the story of Black Staff Kelben, who spent 30 years clearing the wreckage of magic ships in the Endless Sea and Meteor Sea in memory of his beloved deceased wife, was a beautiful childhood memory for Midnight.

She naturally had a liking for those who were relatively loyal and sincere to their feelings.

And thus completely ignored any rumors against Kelben… even willingly opposing Coron.

Edna chuckled lightly, the more she thought about it, the less unjust Midnight’s death seemed.
