Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1205: Chapter 996: Interests Are the Alliance’s Only Foundation

Leonard’s guess almost made Edna burst out laughing.

But she still laid down a force field around herself that allowed sound to enter but not exit... the ears of demigods are quite sharp.

Karagos had serious business to attend to, and they didn’t need to attract any hatred on anyone else’s behalf.

Nasir admiredly patted the nature mage’s shoulder, ”You’re something, daring to mock even a demigod.”

Leonard looked at him blankly, then glanced around at the audience above the clouds, ”Did I... say something wrong again?”

”Not really,” Edna reassured him, ”Just that it’s the truth... but it’s best to consider your surroundings when saying it.

That’s a demigod! You think he can’t hear someone calling his name?

But you’re in luck, he glanced at Jai first and didn’t pay attention to what everyone else recognizing him was saying.

No need to worry now; I’ve set up a stronger isolating force field.”

”Is this person holding a grudge against Bane?” Devis asked softly, ”He was the War God during the Naish era, right? I’m not very familiar with him.”

Edna nodded lightly, ”He holds grudges against quite a few...

First, because of the Naish Calamity under Amanata’s indulgence which shook his foundation, then because of Lansendel’s Dawn Calamity, he lost tremendous divine power, otherwise he wouldn’t have been so easily defeated in the War God rivalry with Tampas.

Finally, when he was trying hard to reorganize his faith, Bane and his cohorts stole the Tablets of Fate, causing the Years of Turmoil, leaving him unwillingly as a demigod.

Although he still holds divinity, that’s only because Tampas didn’t go for the kill... Moreover, Tampas himself dislikes mindless battles, so he wasn’t interested in that part of the divinity. Having Karagos is just useful, like a guard dog, tossing him leftovers every now and then.

Hmm... Tsk, it does sound a bit unlucky, but it makes your heart feel somewhat comforted.”

Leonard looked at her a bit amazed, ”Even though we’ve had quite a few incidents along the way, you don’t have to compare yourself with him?”

The ’Old Age Striking King’ stretched lazily and said slowly, ”When did schadenfreude ever need an excuse?”

”That’s really interesting,” Gendilarei mused, ”Could it be Amanata’s revival that gave him confidence?

Karagos actually dared to appear near the World’s Ridge! Tsk tsk~

These guys... they don’t have the same goals! Karagos is probably involved because he thinks he can weaken Tampas’s divine power.

Over in Icewind Valley, who knows how the battle is going... Did Tampas make a move?

Ah, no, how could the War God get involved in such an undecidable battle!

Normally, Usga would be the easiest to pull into the fray, but unless someone can kill him in the Divine Kingdom, even if Usga’s barbarian followers were completely wiped out, Tampas wouldn’t care about his son.

Unless they have a way to drag the Red Knight into it... but that strategic goddess isn’t easily fooled!

Ah, my curiosity is a bit uncontrollable, but it’s a pity there’s no Tower of the Dawn in Icewind Valley.”

”Ah!” The one standing in the back, ’Yunfeng’, suddenly came up, ”Mr. Gendilarei wants to know the battle situation over in Icewind Valley? Hehe... we might have a way.”

Gendilarei looked at this slyly smiling fellow and suddenly remembered the Undead characteristics mentioned by other Tower of the Dawn priests they had dealt with, smiling as he took out a jewel box and opened it, revealing it was filled with Fire Garnets: ”Is this enough?”

The Dawn Temple has always been more famous for its wealth than the Temple of Biwokin, and Lansendel’s Chosen are never short on money.

’Yunfeng’ held his flat device and tapped it on all sides, a very excited voice came from inside the device: ”A total of 12 pieces, mid-grade Fire Garnet, 1000 gold coins each. Confirm the shipping fee of five pieces?”

”Of course, we undead have always been honest in our business! We’ll never cheat people,” ’Yunfeng’ said decisively, ”If you can’t wait for the delivery, you can get 5000 gold coins directly from the undead I send.”

”Arausato?” Edna couldn’t resist bringing her giant dragon head closer, having caught the voice.

”Ah!” Arausato said happily, ”Yunfeng said as long as I send five people to the Ten Towns of Icewind, I’ll get five pieces and don’t need to get near the battlefield.

If there’s other demands, I’d get paid more!

By the way, Mr. Yunfeng, I want gemstones! I don’t have any Fire Garnets yet!

Elvia, I’m going to earn some money, I’ll show you my new bed when I get back!”

Arausato cheerfully left, leaving only the hurried voice of an undead: ”Wait! Arausato, don’t rush to fly! We have to pick up the passengers first!”

”Elvia, at Arausato’s speed, how long does it take to get to Icewind Valley?” ’Yunfeng’ looked up and asked the White Dragon Queen.

Elvia said listlessly, ”A few hours? Not even half an hour. Arausato is so happy, he’ll definitely fly with all his might.

”He’s an Ancient White Dragon known for his speed!”

Edna gently comforted her White Dragon companion, ”It’s alright, Elvia. On our arduous path of adventure, we’re bound to encounter plenty of treasures!

What does a Fire Garnet matter! Even a Pink Diamond worth 5000 each is no problem!”

Elvia was so moved, she asked tearfully, ”Then... Edna, will you share a little more with me?”

”Impossible~” Edna cruelly shattered the White Dragon Queen’s fantasy, ”I’m also very poor, my dear Elvia.

I’ve already started dreaming of stepping on dog poop on the road and directly digging up treasures!”

Just as these once inseparable friends were about to fall apart over a baseless treasure, there was a buzz of excitement atop the Floating Castle.

”That’s great!” Celene said happily, ”Who would’ve thought that Karagos’s appearance would remind these folks to check out Icewind Valley!”

Hill squinted his eyes in joy... It’s so kind of someone to actually stream it for everyone in advance!

He was tempted at first, but Hill quickly realized that the three powerful beings, all interested in Icewind Valley’s affairs, hadn’t said a word.

Neither Celene nor Lansendel, who were well-versed in hiring the Undead Tribe for work, had spoken.

It could only mean their actions were stopped by a certain Supreme God...

Although the reason was unknown, cautious Hill wouldn’t risk it.

Having endured for so many years, he definitely wouldn’t create trouble for himself in the final stretch.

Hill now ensured that whenever curiosity arose, he’d first glance at Tyr Temple... just one look was enough to douse him with cold water, ensuring he calmed down.

With the excitement of soon being able to see the battles in Icewind Valley, everyone could now look calmly at Karagos... When he transformed, both Celene and Lansendel exclaimed.

Even Shaer couldn’t help but shift in her seat.

After all, these three have lived from the chaotic pre-Naish era to now, and had watched this Giant and Tampas fight bravely for the position of War God for over a thousand years.

The fact that he could transform into a woman, and do so convincingly, was truly beyond their imagination and deeply unsettling... Especially since the little amusement Edna and her friends spied on was also seen by the Three Gods.

Meanwhile, the atmosphere in the circular hall of Deepwater City didn’t lighten up; even the Storm, who constantly mocked Duogasos, had lost the will to speak.

The sisters had never feared a powerful enemy... But today’s events were a bit too shocking.

Even Xinbu, who was indifferent to everything, silently erected more defensive fields when repelling the terrifying steel whirlwind attacking her... As Karagos swung his scimitar and longsword, forming a throwing attack resembling a blade barrier, a 3-meter diameter storm of swords conjured from air... she remained silent, raising more defenses.

However, Dove, standing above shooting arrows, thrust the Subartifact Shield of Earth she carried into the ground before her, then switched the quiver she carried on her back... The long arrows she shot again were clearly Mithril Arrows.

Each of these arrows cost 100 gold coins, and Dove could make an endless quiver out of them, requiring at least 3000 arrows as materials... This kind of strange object had a low level of Difficulty, but its creation was very troublesome, and a single failure meant total loss.

Even Hill occasionally failed in making this.

Dove, as a Strange Objects Crafting Master, usually used her own creations.

So, in many stories of Ferun, there’s a saying: The Northern Seven Sisters, one is manageable, two difficult, and if three or more appear, even deities would find it challenging to handle.

Karagos was roaring in pain from being shot by these Mithril Demonslayer Arrows, ”Talos! Go deal with the woman up there!

What’s the point of just focusing on Xinbu?”

Talos sneered, reluctantly glancing at the Storm Queen, but still flew upward on the storm.

He did have a weapon deviation field, so even Demonslayer Arrows had a high failure rate against him, sparing him the agony Karagos felt.

The flame-laden storm he blew toward Dove was directly blocked by that shield, making Talos smirk, ”Ah! The Shield of Earth blessed by Shantia, Mystra’s Chosen always has such great connections.”

Dove chuckled before replying, ”Isn’t it the opposite for you? The jealousy in your tone is quite refreshing.”

Her voice was gentle, but the words were sharp.

”Ha ha!” The Storm God laughed twice, ”Only the weak pray for allies, the strong only need subordinates!”

”Then what about the two down there?” Dove asked in a cheerful tone.

”Ah... Just temporary partners brought together by interests, ready to separate at any moment due to unequal distribution or excessive scheming,” Talos replied nonchalantly, ”say whatever you want to provoke.

Interests are the only foundation of alliances.”
