My Alleged Husband

Chapter 145: Chapter 129: Three Days of Silence_1

Li Jiayuan listened to the sound of the phone being hung up and clutched it tightly, her heart aching. How could Xiao Wei do this? She loved him so much, how could he?

Li Jiayuan wanted to call Xiao Wei again, but she vividly remembered what he had said as he hung up the phone. She didn’t dare to call him, afraid that Xiao Wei would truly sever all ties with her.

In the following three days, Li Jiayuan ate and slept at home, free from worries. Her only concern was what Xiao Wei’s answer would be.

During these days in the United States, Xiao Wei wasn’t idle. He had gathered the team he had previously disbanded. He was ready to re-enter the Mercenary Group; he didn’t want to give up the friends who had followed him for years because of Li Jiayuan. These people were not only Xiao Wei’s subordinates but also his friends and brothers who had gone through life and death with him. How could he selfishly abandon these brothers who had been willing to risk their lives for him?

In these few days, Li Haixiao observed Li Jiayuan’s condition at home, not sure whether to feel happy or sad. He asked about Li Jiayuan and Xiao Wei several times, but each time, Li Jiayuan would not speak about it, leaving him unsure of their current situation.

Li Jiayuan hadn’t thought about calling Xia Jing or Zhang Zhentian either. Zhang Zhentian found it a relief, but Xia Jing didn’t feel the same. On the contrary, Xia Jing suspected that something must have happened between Xiao Wei and Li Jiayuan.

After much consideration, Xia Jing decided to call Xiao Wei, but his phone was still switched off. She had no choice but to send him an email.

”Xiao Wei, why is your phone off? How have you and Li Jiayuan been lately? If there’s something going on, you can talk to me, I’m not a stranger!”

Xia Jing left a message for Xiao Wei.

When Xiao Wei heard the computer ring, he opened it and saw an email from Xia Jing. He replied cheerfully.

”Elder Sister Xia, you don’t have to worry about me. I’ve thought it through now. Perhaps Jiayuan and I are really not suitable!”

Xia Jing, reading Xiao Wei’s reply, had a bad feeling. This was not a good sign, so she wanted to have a long talk with Xiao Wei to understand what was really on his mind.

”Xiao Wei, Elder Sister Xia doesn’t quite understand what you mean!”

”Elder Sister Xia, I think Jiayuan and I are not suitable, so I want to find an opportunity to divorce her!”

Xiao Wei had always been very honest with Xia Jingyi. He never concealed anything from her, but he also didn’t want to trouble her with everything.

”Xiao Wei, you can’t be impulsive in these matters, especially with something as significant as marriage. Since you two decided to be together at the beginning, it proves that you loved each other. Why make things the way they are now? Besides, there’s an unborn child between you two. Don’t you want the child, too?” Xia Jing’s premonition was spot-on. She knew Xiao Wei would make such a decision. She spoke to Xiao Wei, ”This is a domestic issue between you and Li Jiayuan, and it’s not my place to comment. But I just hope you don’t act in haste, only to realise and regret it later. Do you understand?”

”Elder Sister Xia, you have always cared about me, but do you know? Today she was willing to argue with me fiercely over a collaboration project. Who’s to say she won’t abandon the feelings between us for the sake of money in the future? I cannot bear such a marriage, nor can I live with a woman who is blinded by greed. I believe you will understand my anguish. It’s not that I don’t love her, but I can’t love her anymore. I don’t know when her eyes became filled with the desire for money, that look in her eyes... it feels so alien to me...”

Xia Jing thought to herself: It seems that Xiao Wei has decided not to live with Li Jiayuan any longer.

”Xiao Wei, you need to think more about this and not make hasty decisions. Even if you truly don’t want to live with Li Jiayuan, you can’t just abandon your own flesh and blood!” Xia Jing really hadn’t expected Xiao Wei to have such thoughts. Even a fool wouldn’t abandon their own child. Yet, Xiao Wei had made such a decision. Li Jiayuan, Oh Li Jiayuan, what have you done to Xiao Wei? Why did a person who was once good turn out this way?

Xiao Wei knew that Xia Jing was concerned about him, and he, too, wanted to grow up happily with his child alongside Li Jiayuan, but now he was truly scared. Deep down, he felt that the current Li Jiayuan was a stranger to him, a figure that instilled fear.

”Elder Sister Xia, I know you have my best interests at heart, and I admit that I truly loved Li Jiayuan before. For her sake, I would have even given up my life. But what about her? Not long after we were married, we had a child, which made me very happy. Yet, she hurt me just because of a single word from Li Haixiao. Do you think that’s how she shows her love for me? I believe that true love might be about letting go, not forcing ourselves to stay together. Maybe only by letting go can she lead a better life. I’ve felt tired for quite a while now. Just because of one case, we’ve argued to this extent, leaving me unsure of how to face her every night...”

Xiao Wei said to Xia Jing, not telling her that a significant reason for his actions was actually because of her, because Li Jiayuan had made unkind remarks about Xia Jing.

Even if Xiao Wei didn’t say it, Xia Jing was aware that part of the reason involved her. With a smile, she said to Xiao Wei, ”Xiao Wei, do you think you can hide it from me? Isn’t part of the reason for your decision because of me?”

Xiao Wei didn’t expect Xia Jing to know everything; she had simply chosen not to speak of it.

”Elder Sister Xia, you’re overthinking it. This has nothing to do with you.”

Even though Xia Jing already knew some of the reasons involved her, Xiao Wei still told her it had nothing to do with her. He didn’t want Xia Jing to bear any psychological burden because of this matter!

”Xiao Wei, there’s no need to lie to me. I know that I am part of the reason. Li Jiayuan said that I hid you away and wouldn’t let you go home, which made you uncomfortable. It was because you were protecting me. I appreciate your protection, and it makes me happy, but I don’t want you to lose the marriage you worked so hard for because of me. It’s not worth it!”

Xia Jing truly did not wish for Xiao Wei to divorce Li Jiayuan because of her. Even if no one else knew what Xiao Wei had sacrificed to be with Li Jiayuan, Xia Jing was well aware of the price he had paid!

Xiao Wei felt truly distressed; he just couldn’t accept spending his life with someone who hurt the people he cared about.

”Elder Sister Xia, I need some time alone to think. I need to reconsider whether I should continue this journey with Jiayuan. If she is going to argue with me in the future over a business deal or money, then it might be better to give up on this marriage now to avoid another heartache later!”

Xia Jing felt there was some truth in Xiao Wei’s words. Anyway, she had said all she could; the final decision was up to Li Jiayuan’s fate. Xia Jing understood that rather than facing heartbreak again in the future, it might be best to end things now; after all, a short pain is better than a long one!

”Alright, I’ve said all that I needed to say. As for the outcome, what to do, how to choose—that’s up to you. I won’t say much more. But I hope you remember, no matter what happens, I will always be your rock! I’ve got things to take care of, so I can’t stay and chat. Take your time to think things over!”

”Goodbye!”

”Bye!”

Xiao Wei looked through his inbox, finding no emails from Li Jiayuan. His feelings were complicated. Shouldn’t he be happy about not receiving her emails? Then why did he feel a hint of disappointment?

Xia Jing felt that she should talk to Li Jiayuan because this was about Xiao Wei’s lifelong happiness. She planned to discuss it with Zhang Zhentian before meeting with Li Jiayuan to have a serious conversation.

Zhang Zhentian knew what Xia Jing wanted to talk about and immediately said, ”I’ll go with you!”

Xia Jing hadn’t really expected Zhang Zhentian to understand her so well, and it pleased her heart!
