My Alleged Husband

Chapter 143: Chapter 127: Child, Do You Still Want It?_1

Xiao Wei woke up, unlocked his phone, and saw that he not only had missed calls from Li Jiayuan, but also from Xia Jing. When he saw Li Jiayuan’s missed call, his eyes were only filled with disdain; any sense of heartache was gone. But when he saw Xia Jing’s name displaying on his phone, his eyes filled with bitterness. He knew that his relationship with Li Jiayuan was possible because Elder Sister Xia encouraged him to be brave and pursue love. Now that things had turned out this way, Xiao Wei felt quite sorry towards Xia Jing, especially since she had stood up for him more than once. In the end, he could only fail to meet Xia Jing’s expectations.

Xiao Wei returned a call to Xia Jing, and it was Zhang Zhentian who picked up once again. It seemed Zhang Zhentian might have known that Xiao Wei would call Xia Jing, so he kept her phone with him all the time.

”Elder Sister Xia, I went to sleep early last night, so I didn’t hear your call. Was there something you needed me for?” Xiao Wei heard the call connect and didn’t wait for the other person to speak; he hurried to speak first.

”Xiao Wei, it’s me, Zhang Zhentian. The call last night was made to you using Xia Jing’s phone. Where were you the whole night yesterday?” Zhang Zhentian asked Xiao Wei.

Xiao Wei gave an evasive answer to Zhang Zhentian. ”I didn’t go anywhere, just hung out with friends!”

Xiao Wei was really foolish; his words didn’t add up, yet he still lied. Zhang Zhentian laughed as he said to Xiao Wei, ”Ah, Xiao Wei, I think Elder Sister Xia’s assessment of you is absolutely right.”

Xiao Wei didn’t understand why Zhang Zhentian would say that, and he was quite curious about how he was viewed in Xia Jing’s heart.

”Brother-in-law, just tell me, what does Elder Sister Xia think of me? Does she think I’m very smart? Or does she think I’m handsome?” Xiao Wei quietly awaited Zhang Zhentian’s reply.

Zhang Zhentian truly wanted to roll his eyes at Xiao Wei. Who could be so narcissistic?

”Brother-in-law, why aren’t you speaking?” Xiao Wei hurriedly urged Zhang Zhentian.

Zhang Zhentian said helplessly to Xiao Wei, ”Yes, your Elder Sister Xia said you are handsome, so handsome that you’re clueless, and also very smart, smart to the point of being silly!”

Xiao Wei was confused. Were these compliments or criticisms? Why did it sound so odd?

”Brother-in-law, why would Elder Sister Xia say that about me?” Xiao Wei was truly beyond help, clearly just having been insulted yet still seeking more discomfort!

”Xiao Wei, what your Elder Sister Xia means is that when you do things, you never think it through, you only ever endure being bullied, never considering your own interests...” Zhang Zhentian explained.

Xiao Wei finally got it. Zhang Zhentian wasn’t saying he was smart; he was clearly calling him stupid!

”Brother-in-law, let’s not talk about that. Was there something you needed when you called me last night?” Xiao Wei changed the subject and started chatting with Zhang Zhentian.

”Xiao Wei, there are some things I don’t want Xia Jing to know. You also know that Xia Jing is pregnant now and shouldn’t get too agitated. I mean no offense, I just want to know where exactly you were last night. Don’t tell me you were with your friends. Your own words aren’t consistent. Do you think you can lie to me? At first, you said you went to sleep early and didn’t hear the call, then later you said you were playing with your friends. Do you think I, Zhang Zhentian, am an idiot to be fooled by you?” Zhang Zhentian challenged.

Only then did Xiao Wei remember that his lie had been exposed again, but he couldn’t understand why Zhang Zhentian said that Xia Jing, being pregnant, shouldn’t be too agitated. Could it be that Li Jiayuan had said something to Xia Jing?

”No, brother-in-law, what do you mean by all this?” Xiao Wei asked.

”You know what I mean, Xiao Wei. Xia Jing treats you like her own brother, and that’s why I’ve been helping you out too. But when you and Li Jiayuan have issues, you can’t worry Xia Jing like this. She’s not concerned about Li Jiayuan; she’s worried about you, about whether you might run into trouble. She always puts you first, so I hope you can consider her feelings too, okay?” Zhang Zhentian said to Xiao Wei.

Xiao Wei felt more confused the more he listened. Why couldn’t he understand anything?

”Brother-in-law, how am I supposed to know what you’re talking about?” Xiao Wei said, completely baffled. He genuinely didn’t know what had happened, and he hadn’t known that Li Jiayuan had called Xia Jing last night.

”Fine, you don’t know, do you? Then let me tell you. You quarrel with Li Jiayuan and then you disappear. Do you have any idea that last night Li Jiayuan was looking for you and ended up at Xia Jing’s place? She even claimed Xia Jing was hiding you. Did you find that funny? I just don’t understand. What’s the point in fighting like that with Li Jiayuan? She’s carrying your child now. How can you not think about the child?”

Zhang Zhentian was livid. How dare Li Jiayuan badmouth Xia Jing like that. Even Xiao Wei had no right to speak of Xia Jing that way, let alone a stranger!

Xiao Wei finally understood the situation. Turns out he hadn’t answered Li Jiayuan’s call last night, which led her to call Xia Jing and say many hurtful things. No wonder Zhang Zhentian was so angry.

”Brother-in-law, I’m sorry for causing you and Elder Sister Xia trouble. I apologize to you both on Jiayuan’s behalf. I will think this through properly. Please don’t get involved in the matter between Jiayuan and me anymore!”

Xiao Wei hung up the phone after he finished speaking. He was furious. How could Li Jiayuan be so presumptuous? Clearly, she was the one who had erred, so why couldn’t she ever repent? Why did she always push her mistakes onto others who were uninvolved? Was taking responsibility really that hard?

Xiao Wei felt that it was time to have a serious talk with Li Jiayuan. If they truly weren’t meant to be, then it was time to let go!

Xiao Wei called and arranged to meet with Li Jiayuan. When she saw that it was Xiao Wei calling, she was overjoyed and agreed to meet him without hesitation.

Star Coffee Shop.

”Sit down,” Xiao Wei said to Li Jiayuan as soon as he saw her, not wanting to say anything unnecessary to her.

Li Jiayuan couldn’t help but speak up when Xiao Wei remained silent, ”Xiao Wei, don’t you have anything you want to say to me? Like how I’ve been doing recently or something?”

She shouldn’t have said anything. Her words just made Xiao Wei scoff, ”Oh? It seems like you’ve been having a great time without me, even going so far as to bother Elder Sister Xia. Li Jiayuan, I really underestimated you. I never thought you could be so capable!”

”Xiao Wei, what do you mean? Are you saying you weren’t hidden away by Xia Jing? Then why did you show up after I called her? What else is there to say?” Li Jiayuan’s temper was explosive! With just a few words from Xiao Wei, she laid all the blame on Xia Jing for her own mistakes.

”Li Jiayuan, enough is enough. I really regret that I ever fell in love with someone like you. Do you know how disgusted I am with you now? I don’t want to see you for a second longer. Leave, we have nothing more to talk about!” Xiao Wei turned and walked away after speaking. He had made a terrible mistake in loving someone like her.

Watching Xiao Wei’s retreating figure, Li Jiayuan shouted after him, ”Xiao Wei, I’m telling you, you’ll regret treating me like this! Are you going to abandon your own child too?”

Xiao Wei ignored Li Jiayuan’s shouting. He knew that if he gave in now, she would only get worse in the future, and the problem would become even more troublesome. It was better to seize this opportunity to quell Li Jiayuan’s fiery temper once and for all!
