My Alleged Husband

Chapter 101: Chapter 93 Cultivating Emotions_1

Old Master Zhang couldn’t plainly state his meaning in front of Zhang Zhentian and Xia Jing, but neither Zhang Zhentian nor Xia Jing were fools; how could they not understand that Old Master Zhang’s message was an obvious hint for them to try harder to give him a grandson?

Zhang Zhentian thought his father was only bringing it up today, but how could he have imagined that from today onwards, Old Master Zhang would start implementing his grandchild-hastening campaign!

”Dad, how can you say such things? Don’t you know how embarrassed Xia Jing will be when you talk like this?” Seeing Xia Jing run off into the distance, Zhang Zhentian turned around with a helpless expression and spoke to Old Master Zhang.

”What’s there to be embarrassed about? There will be a lot more of such occasions in the future. Besides, I didn’t make it too clear; as long as you two understand, that’s enough. Isn’t that right?” Old Master Zhang retorted.

Zhang Zhentian was at a loss for words regarding what Old Master Zhang had said. How could it be, just married and already being urged to have a grandchild... how would they cope with the road ahead...

”Zhang Zhentian, listen to me clearly. If you don’t produce a grandson for me within a year, you will both move out. You may not want to take over the company, but I still want my grandson to do it. If you don’t want to see my years of hard work go to waste, then don’t go against my wishes. I agreed to your marriage, but if you repeatedly defy me, don’t blame me for disowning you as my son. I, Zhang Mo, mean what I say!” Old Master Zhang, dissatisfied with Zhang Zhentian’s attitude, shouted furiously at him.

”Dad, how is it possible within a year? Xia Jing and I want to enjoy a few more years of just the two of us; we don’t want to have children so soon. Can’t you be a little more understanding? These things take time; it’s not as if you can demand them and we should just be able to do it!” Zhang Zhentian still spoke kindly to Old Master Zhang, but the latter simply could not agree with his words, believing firmly that getting married was for having children!

”Zhang Zhentian, what’s the point of taking a wife if you don’t have children? I mean no offense, but I feel I’m of such advanced age. You may not take over Zhang Corporation, but surely you can’t also prevent my grandson from doing so? I just hope that you can give me a grandson sooner, then we could all live comfortably. Why must everyone work themselves to exhaustion? Isn’t that the logic?” Old Master Zhang tried to instill his way of thinking into Zhang Zhentian, but to no avail!

”Dad, I must admit what you’ve just said is very tempting to me, but I don’t think we should be so selfish. Xia Jing only came to our family yesterday, and today we’re already asking her to bear a child for us. Although we will have children sooner or later, at least not now. I don’t want Xia Jing to feel the pressure of having to produce an heir just as she enters our home. I think we should give her some time to adapt to our family’s environment...” Zhang Zhentian earnestly tried to persuade Old Master Zhang, however stubborn he may be; how could Zhang Zhentian change his mind with just a few words when, in his view, women were meant to marry for the purpose of having children!

”Fine, fine, but I’m only giving you one month to adjust. After that month, you must start trying for a baby, understand?” Old Master Zhang said authoritatively to Zhang Zhentian.

”Got it, got it!” Zhang Zhentian replied to Old Master Zhang, impatiently.

Zhang Zhentian truly feared that Xia Jing might overhear the conversation he was having with his father and get the wrong idea. He lifted his head to glance in the direction of the bedroom; seeing that the door was closed, he assumed Xia Jing hadn’t heard anything. But how could he know that Xia Jing had actually heard the entire conversation and was now sitting in the bedroom, her face filled with sorrow!

”Dad, regardless, I hope you won’t tell Xia Jing about our talk today. Please don’t make things difficult for her in this house. After all, Xia Jing is now the Zhang Family’s daughter-in-law. I don’t know why you suddenly agreed to my marriage with Xia Jing, and I don’t want to know. What I want to tell you is that wherever and whenever, I will never allow anyone to hurt Xia Jing. You know better than I that the people of the Zhang Family are driven by love; it has never changed over these many years. You still cherish the memory of mom so deeply, even though she has been gone for so many years. If you can live alone for her, why can’t I wait a few more years to have children for Xia Jing? Can’t we empathize with each other and not make me choose between you and Xia Jing!” Zhang Zhentian said and immediately turned to look for Xia Jing, calming his emotions at the bedroom door before pushing it open; he didn’t want Xia Jing to see him like this.

Hearing Zhang Zhentian come upstairs, Xia Jing hurriedly got up; she didn’t want to cause him any trouble. Seeing Zhang Zhentian enter, she spoke out, ”Zhentian, shall we have a son together?”

Zhang Zhentian, upon hearing Xia Jing address him in such a manner, felt something was amiss. He asked her, ”Xia Jing, did you overhear something?”

”Zhentian, I don’t want to put you in a tough spot. Having a child together is great, and in the future, the three of us could go out shopping together. That way, dad wouldn’t have to worry about no one inheriting Zhang Corporation!” Xia Jing said to Zhang Zhentian with a smile.

Zhang Zhentian felt that Xia Jing thought this way because of what his dad had said, so he said to her, ”My love, but I don’t want a child right now. I still want to enjoy our world of two!”

”Zhentian, just listen to me. I know dad wants a grandson. Besides, didn’t you say last night that you also wanted to have a child with me sooner and then we could become mercenaries together? You haven’t forgotten, have you?”

When Zhang Zhentian heard Xia Jing say that, he was stunned for a moment. He thought Xia Jing hadn’t heard what he said to her last night, but why had she heard everything?

”Cough cough, well, Xia Jing, tell me the truth, were you pretending to be asleep last night?” Zhang Zhentian asked her seriously, staring at her.

”Zhentian, why would you say that?”

”I remember last night when I said those words to you, you were asleep, and you were sleeping so soundly. How could you possibly know what I said to you? Unless you were pretending!” Zhang Zhentian was quite quick-witted; he quickly realized that Xia Jing was pretending to be asleep last night.

”You can’t say I was pretending to sleep. I was indeed asleep at first, but when I heard you open the door, I woke up. When you lay down beside me, I was awake the whole time; you just didn’t know. So you can’t say it was intentional. I just wanted to hear if you would reveal any secrets that I didn’t know while I was asleep. Otherwise, how could I have forgiven you so easily? Isn’t that right?”

”I never realized you had such persuasive skills; it’s a waste to make you a mercenary...” Zhang Zhentian deliberately sighed as he said this to Xia Jing.

”Stop it!”

”Alright, I’ll stop. Let’s foster our relationship!”

”Help...”
