My Alleged Husband

Chapter 130: Chapter 114: Meticulous Care_1

Li Jiayuan was transferred from the emergency room into a regular ward, and, in a daze, she woke up. She looked around and said, ”Where am I?”

Sitting beside her, Li Haixiao was still immersed in the joyful world of his grandson’s arrival. Hearing Li Jiayuan speak, he snapped back to reality and said to her, ”Jiayuan, you’re awake. This is the hospital, and Dad is here!”

Li Jiayuan then realized she was in the hospital. She remembered that last night she suddenly felt a severe pain in her stomach and eventually fainted. She didn’t know what happened after that.

”Dad, where is Xiao Wei?” Li Jiayuan woke up and didn’t see Xiao Wei. She wondered if he hadn’t come to see her at all.

”Xiao Wei has gone to the doctor’s office to get your test report. He’ll be back soon!” Li Haixiao explained to Li Jiayuan. He saw the expression on her face the moment she realized Xiao Wei was not there and felt quite helpless.

”Dad, do I have some incurable disease? I remember that my stomach hurt so much last night, it hurt so badly I could barely breathe, and in the end, I fainted from the pain.” Li Jiayuan struggled to recall what had happened, thinking her pain was due to some terminal illness, not knowing what her expression would be if she found out she was actually pregnant.

Li Haixiao patted Li Jiayuan’s forehead and said affectionately, ”Jiayuan, my silly child, you didn’t even know you were pregnant. Do you know your baby almost didn’t make it? How could you be so careless?”

Li Jiayuan couldn’t quite believe her ears; she thought she had misheard and asked, ”Dad, what did you just say?”

”I said you’re pregnant, you’re going to be a mother, and I’m going to be a grandfather!” Every time Li Haixiao mentioned the child, he couldn’t help but get excited for a long time. This was the grandchild he had longed for, and now that dream had come true, how could he not be thrilled?

Li Jiayuan joyfully stroked her stomach with both hands, thinking: My child, you truly are mommy’s savior. Thank you for coming just in time...

As Li Jiayuan pondered this, she started to cry. It was her first child with Xiao Wei, after all. She knew her father had long hoped she would get pregnant soon, and now that she finally was, she felt she hadn’t let Li Haixiao down.

Suddenly seeing Li Jiayuan crying, Li Haixiao thought she was in discomfort, which made her cry. In a flurry, he asked her, ”Jiayuan, why are you crying? Are you feeling unwell somewhere?”

”No, Dad, I am crying tears of joy. I’m just so happy. Now that I have a child, it won’t be long before you can hold your grandson...” Li Jiayuan spoke to her father.

Li Haixiao was stunned. He hadn’t expected that upon learning of her pregnancy, Li Jiayuan’s first thought was not of her own joy at becoming a mother, but of his feelings as a father, which gave Li Haixiao mixed emotions. For a moment, he wondered if he had been too demanding and was now unsure whether this was truly a good thing for Li Jiayuan or perhaps a bad one.

Li Jiayuan hadn’t spoken for long with Li Haixiao before he told her to rest early. Knowing that it was for her own good, she didn’t refuse.

She kept looking out into the hallway, waiting for Xiao Wei, but despite the wait of over an hour, Xiao Wei still didn’t show up. Li Jiayuan started to feel sleepy and lay down on the hospital bed, falling asleep.

Xiao Wei was bustling about at home, determined to make Li Jiayuan the tastiest, most nutritious, and most fragrant food.

He specifically bought ginseng and black-bone chicken... all in order to cook for Li Jiayuan. Fearing she would tire of eating the same food every day, he bought a lot of ingredients, all expensive, with the intention of making a unique meal for Li Jiayuan every day.

He stewed black-bone chicken soup at home. He understood that the soup could only bring out its nutritional value if it was simmered on low heat for a long time. So, he stewed it for six hours at home, and by the time he finished the soup, Li Jiayuan had already woken up from her sleep.

After waking up, Li Jiayuan looked around but still didn’t see Xiao Wei. Her heart felt a bit heavy as she thought that even though she was hospitalized, Xiao Wei hadn’t come to see her. Yet she thought maybe Xiao Wei was delayed by something, which was why he hadn’t come to visit her yet.

Li Jiayuan could only comfort herself in her heart, as this was the only way she felt slightly better.

Li Haixiao knew what Li Jiayuan was thinking—after all, she was his daughter, and how could he not understand her feelings? He was also curious about what Xiao Wei was up to. Even if he was getting a test report, he should have been back by now. As a considerable amount of time had passed, just as Li Haixiao was about to go out and call Xiao Wei, Xiao Wei arrived at Li Jiayuan’s ward, carrying the newly stewed black-bone chicken soup.

”Dad, Jiayuan, are you awake? Are you hungry?” Xiao Wei didn’t yet know that Li Jiayuan had been waiting for him, looking out the corridor the whole time.

Li Haixiao was the first to speak, ”Xiao Wei, what were you doing that took you so long to come back? Does it really take six hours to get a check-up report?”

Clearly, Li Haixiao was also displeased, in his eyes, there was nothing more important than his daughter.

Xiao Wei gave an embarrassed smile, ”Dad, Jiayuan, I’m really sorry. After I got the report, I went to buy some stuff and went home to cook for Jiayuan. I thought she must be very hungry when she woke up, so I didn’t have time to tell you and went straight back...”

Seeing the thermal container in Xiao Wei’s hands, Li Haixiao believed Xiao Wei hadn’t lied and his expression softened somewhat.

Xiao Wei walked toward Li Jiayuan and said to her, ”Jiayuan, please don’t be mad, okay? I’ll tell you everything I’m going to do in the future. Here, have some chicken soup. This took me six hours to stew, and it’s full of nutrients.”

”Silly, why would I be mad at you? You weren’t by my side because you were making food for me. It smells so good; I need to drink more.” Li Jiayuan’s face, which was previously laden with worry, suddenly brightened up and Li Haixiao, looking on from the side, felt speechless. Yet seeing his son-in-law and daughter so in love made him truly happy.

”Dad, you should have some too!” Xiao Wei also served a bowl for Li Haixiao since he knew that Li Haixiao’s health needed nourishment as well. In his mind, cooking for one or two made no difference.

”No need for me, let Jiayuan eat it. She has to eat for two now!” Li Haixiao said and started to laugh.

”Dad, I’m fine. Have some please. Xiao Wei’s soup is really tasty. If you don’t drink it, then I won’t either!”

...

In fact, Li Jiayuan knew very well that ever since she was young, whatever Li Haixiao had to eat or use, he always saved it for her, never sparing anything for himself. But he was always generous with Li Jiayuan. These things weren’t something Li Jiayuan couldn’t remember; she just never spoke about them, always keeping them buried in her heart. Yet she couldn’t bear to see her father, who had cherished her for so many years, looking so thin and frail while watching her eat happily. She would rather go without food than to see her loving father lack nourishment.

Everyone knew what Li Jiayuan meant by her words, and after much refusal, Li Haixiao finally couldn’t resist Jiayuan’s insistence. He picked up the bowl and took a few sips of the soup Xiao Wei had made, unable to restrain himself from praising, ”I didn’t expect Xiao Wei’s soup-making skills to be so superb. If you participated in a national cooking competition, I guarantee you’d win the championship.”

Hearing Li Haixiao praise Xiao Wei, Li Jiayuan was filled with pride and she said to Li Haixiao proudly, ”Of course, didn’t you see who his wife is!”

”Yes, yes, Jiayuan is right. You really have a good eye. Such a talented husband, you managed to find him, and that’s your good fortune!”

”Right, your daughter is indeed that fortunate...”

”You, are you not embarrassed?” Xiao Wei teased as he playfully scraped Li Jiayuan’s nose.

”Haha...”

”Haha...”

”Haha...”

Li Jiayuan, Li Haixiao, and Xiao Wei couldn’t help but burst into laughter; they hadn’t been this happy in a long time.
