My Alleged Husband

Chapter 140: Chapter 124 Should We Just Drop It?_1

Xiao Wei now really feels that Li Jiayuan is becoming more and more unreasonable. How can she be like this? After this incident, Xiao Wei is somewhat confused about why Li Jiayuan even got together with him in the first place!

If it was for money, he had none; if it was for love, he can’t see a trace of affection in Li Jiayuan now; if it was because Li Jiayuan felt empty, then Xiao Wei would truly be utterly disappointed in her!

Li Jiayuan was crying in the bedroom, feeling like she had really hit a streak of bad luck recently—why did all the troubles seem to find their way to her?

As she cried, her tears eventually stopped, but the moment she remembered Xiao Wei saying, ”If you don’t want to be with me anymore, just say it...” she would start crying again. She thought Xiao Wei would always indulge her, but his sudden change of tone when speaking to her felt unfamiliar and unpleasant. How could this be? In her heart, she believed that no matter how unreasonable she was, Xiao Wei should always unconditionally cater to her. Li Jiayuan was truly mistaken—no one owes anyone anything. His indulgence was out of love, not to give you reason to be unreasonable over and over again...

Li Jiayuan cried until late into the night, convinced that Xiao Wei, even if he left, would come back. But as she waited and waited, she never saw Xiao Wei return; he was drinking alone in a bar!

Eventually, Li Jiayuan couldn’t stay awake any longer and fell asleep amidst her sobs.

Xiao Wei was drinking in the bar; many girls came over to greet him, but he ignored them all, leaving the girls no choice but to give up.

As he drank, Xiao Wei thought to himself: Li Jiayuan, oh Li Jiayuan, what exactly do you want from me? Since we’ve been married, in what way have I, Xiao Wei, wronged you? Why do you treat me this way and hurt me? Li Jiayuan, am I really so unimportant to you that you can bear to see me this heartbroken?

After a while, as Xiao Wei drank alone, Zhang Zhentian arrived at the bar. Unlike Xiao Wei, Zhang Zhentian was out for a social engagement and was about to head home when he spotted Xiao Wei by himself, so he decided to find out what was going on.

”Xiao Wei, why are you here alone?” Zhang Zhentian asked. Xiao Wei looked up, and upon seeing that it was Zhang Zhentian in front of him, he didn’t say anything. Seeing Xiao Wei’s reluctance to speak, Zhang Zhentian refrained from asking further and sat down beside Xiao Wei, joining him for a drink.

”Brother-in-law, is loving someone very tiring?” Xiao Wei suddenly asked Zhang Zhentian, which took Zhang Zhentian completely by surprise. How was he supposed to respond to that?

Just as Zhang Zhentian was about to answer, something didn’t feel right. Xiao Wei was not one to be rash; the only person who could make him say such a thing was probably Li Jiayuan. Could it be that he and Li Jiayuan had had a fight?

”Brother-in-law, why aren’t you saying anything?” Xiao Wei prodded.

”Xiao Wei, everyone’s experiences are different, and so are their perspectives. As for me, I think loving someone is difficult but happy. Look at your Elder Sister Xia and me—aren’t we deeply in love?” Zhang Zhentian tried to gently coax the truth out of Xiao Wei.

”Brother-in-law, I really don’t know what to do anymore. Do you know that? I’ve been so good to Li Jiayuan, yet she hurt me over the piece of land you and Elder Sister Xia gave us as a wedding gift. Do you think money is really more important than anything?” Xiao Wei spoke drunkenly to Zhang Zhentian, unaware of what he was saying anymore, just wanting to vent all the grievances and pain in his heart!

Zhang Zhentian, listening to Xiao Wei, became even more convinced that there was definitely a conflict between Xiao Wei and Li Jiayuan.

”Xiao Wei, you can tell me anything; I won’t tell anyone else,” Zhang Zhentian assured him, patting Xiao Wei’s shoulder. Xiao Wei needed comfort and advice at this moment. He wasn’t going to overthink it; he opened up and started talking to Zhang Zhentian.

”Brother-in-law, you must remember the collaborative project you and Elder Sister Xia gave as a wedding gift to Jiayuan and me. Do you know that Jiayuan’s father used company funds, and the shareholders don’t want his money, just the project? So, he approached Jiayuan. At first, she disagreed, but I don’t know what Li Haixiao said to her, and Jiayuan came to talk to me about the land. I couldn’t imagine she actually wanted to take it for herself. I’ve given her everything she wanted; how could she still be discontented? Does she think she needs me to yield to her in everything? Is that what love is to her?” Xiao Wei finished speaking and poured another drink down his throat while Zhang Zhentian just watched in silence. He knew saying nothing was the best he could do for Xiao Wei, understanding the feeling of drinking alone as he had once drowned his sorrows in alcohol because of Xia Jing!

”Xiao Wei, I don’t feel it’s my place to say much, but I can tell you that a marriage without love will never be happy. Besides, didn’t Li Jiayuan really like you before? How has it come to this?” Zhang Zhentian let out a sigh as he spoke to Xiao Wei.

”How would I know? Everything was fine until a few days ago, but then she suddenly changed like this. I’m wondering if her father said something to her or what. I feel like I don’t even know her anymore. I never thought she would argue with me over money. If we ever did, it was supposed to be about being frugal, but what’s happening now is completely beyond my expectations. What should I do?”

Xiao Wei’s face was filled with worry. He had always loved Li Jiayuan, but why had she suddenly changed like this?

”Xiao Wei, when it comes to feelings, other people’s opinions don’t really matter. What’s crucial is how you and your wife should get along. Now that Li Jiayuan is pregnant, you can’t possibly divorce her. So what choice do you have other than to bear with it?”

”I’ll think it over carefully!”

...

The two chatted in the bar for a while before Xiao Wei decided to head home. On the way back, he wondered countless times how he should face Li Jiayuan. Should he continue to let her control everything as before? No, that’s impossible. Why should I listen to her about everything? After the way she’s treated me, why should I spare her feelings?

When Xiao Wei returned to the Li Family home, Li Jiayuan was already awake. Without Xiao Wei by her side, she found it hard to sleep, so she had simply gotten up to wait for his return.

”Where have you been? Why are you only getting back now?” Li Jiayuan looked at Xiao Wei, who appeared to be quite drunk. She wasn’t worried about whether his health could take it; she was only concerned about what he had been doing and who he had been with.

Hearing Li Jiayuan questioning him, Xiao Wei found it funny. He gave Li Jiayuan a bright smile and said, ”What business is it of yours where I go?”

Xiao Wei’s words were indeed hurtful, but compared to what Li Jiayuan had done, what was it really?

Li Jiayuan was stunned. Xiao Wei had never spoken to her with such a tone before, but today he was talking to her like this, which she found unbelievable.

”What do you mean? Make yourself clear!” Li Jiayuan walked over, grabbed Xiao Wei’s hand, and yelled at him.

Xiao Wei laughed coldly and said, ”Am I wrong? Li Jiayuan, don’t think I don’t know what you’re plotting in your heart. I’ll say it again, there’s no way I’m giving up that piece of land!”

”Xiao Wei, do you think it’s fun for us to fight like this?” Li Jiayuan said with tears in her eyes.

”Ha, weren’t you the one who started this? Jiayuan, after this incident, I’ve thought a lot. I think maybe we should just call it quits. I’m not a saint; I can’t let you have your way in everything. I have my self-respect too. From your actions, I can’t see any respect for me, so instead of living like this, let’s just end it now!”

Li Jiayuan stood frozen in place for a long time, unable to recover from the shock, while Xiao Wei went straight to the guest room, locked the door, and went to sleep, leaving Li Jiayuan alone in the living room!
