My Alleged Husband

Chapter 141: Chapter 125 Why Do You Say That?_1

Li Jiayuan watched Xiao Wei turn away, her heart filled with a troubling taste, and she didn’t understand why she had suddenly become like this. She felt as though she were possessed, having never before argued with Xiao Wei over money. So why did she now harbor thoughts of embezzling funds from their joint project?

Li Jiayuan truly failed to grasp when she had become so greedy. Her initial reason for being with Xiao Wei wasn’t because she knew Xia Jing was going to marry into wealth, in hope of gaining some benefit. She simply liked Xiao Wei and that was why she made that choice. But why had her original intentions changed now?

Xiao Wei walked away, wiping away tears with his hand. Yes, he cried, because Li Jiayuan cried...

Dinglingling... Dinglingling...

A cell phone ringtone began to sound. Xiao Wei, seeing the caller was Li Jiayuan, hung up immediately. He didn’t want to hear her voice; her voice was like a curse to him. Every time he heard Li Jiayuan’s voice, he couldn’t help but remember the things she had done, perhaps turning into a permanent scar in his heart. He didn’t want to constantly suffer from the pain that scar brought!

Hearing the sound of the phone being hung up, Li Jiayuan realized that Xiao Wei had hung up on her. Yet she was persistent, continuously calling Xiao Wei, but he ignored her as if he didn’t see the incoming calls. Li Jiayuan panicked!

Again and again she called Xiao Wei, and again and again, he hung up, until finally when Li Jiayuan made another call, Xiao Wei just silenced his phone!

”Why won’t you answer the phone, Xiao Wei? Please, just pick up,” Li Jiayuan pleaded desperately, worried something might have happened to Xiao Wei. But since he wasn’t answering, there was nothing she could do.

Xiao Wei looked at the missed calls on his phone, all from Li Jiayuan—over thirty of them—but he didn’t pick up a single one.

Li Jiayuan lay on the sofa, now utterly out of control, not even caring for her own child. All she wanted was to know why Xiao Wei was treating her this way!

Xiao Wei kept walking forward until he no longer knew where he was. Checking the time on his phone, he saw it was very late and found a nearby motel to stay the night.

Li Jiayuan waited at home, but Xiao Wei never returned, not even a phone call. Unable to wait any longer, she took out her phone and called Xia Jing.

”Hello, Elder Sister Xia, has Xiao Wei been in touch with you?” Li Jiayuan asked, unaware that the person who answered was not Xia Jing but Zhang Zhentian—Xia Jing was already asleep.

”Sorry, I’m not Xia Jing; she is already asleep. I’m her husband—Zhang Zhentian. May I know why Miss Li is calling so late? If it’s nothing important, I will hang up. And just so you know, in the future, don’t call Xia Jing for no reason, or don’t blame me!” Zhang Zhentian said without any hesitation.

Li Jiayuan couldn’t understand why even Zhang Zhentian was saying such things. Why was everyone opposing her? Could it be that she had committed some terrible sins in her past life?

”Zhang Zhentian, what do you mean by that? Where have I annoyed or offended you? What gives you the right to talk about me like this?” Li Jiayuan was not someone to be trifled with. Not just anybody could speak about her in such a way—she too had her dignity. Why should everyone comment on her actions?

”What do I mean, Li Jiayuan? Don’t you know what I mean? Xiao Wei has been so good to you, doing everything you ask. But what about you? How have you treated him? It’s a good thing that back then, Xia Jing and I kept a backup plan and wrote Xiao Wei’s name on the partnership deal. Otherwise, you might have already embezzled it. I really don’t know how Xia Jing and I could have ever been attracted to someone like you, someone who doesn’t appreciate what they have! Even if you don’t realize how much Xiao Wei has sacrificed for you, Xia Jing and I have seen it with our own eyes. He loves you so much, but what about you? Aside from recklessly joining the training camp for his sake, what else have you done? Other than repeatedly hurting him, what else can you do? Look at yourself—now you are even fighting with Xiao Wei over a business deal and turning the world upside down. But it’s not just this. You’re even neglecting the child in your womb. Do you think you’re acting like a responsible mother? Do you realize how much Xiao Wei longs to walk down this path of life with you? And you? What’s really in your heart, or do you think money is more important than your lifetime of happiness?”

Li Jiayuan was stunned. Yes, what else had she done for him besides that incident at the training camp? It seemed that there was nothing else.

Li Jiayuan had been speechless for a while when Zhang Zhentian continued: ”Li Jiayuan, if I had any respect for you before, all I have now is disgust. If I had any fondness for you at all before, it has now vanished with what you’ve done to Xiao Wei. Li Jiayuan, cherish what you have and don’t wait to regret it after you’ve lost it. Honestly, anyone with eyes can see Xiao Wei has treated you well. How can you bear to hurt him this much? A person’s true heart is hard to come by, and once lost, it’s like water—you can’t get it back.”

Li Jiayuan listened to Zhang Zhentian and, although she felt he made a lot of sense, she still couldn’t tolerate someone she wasn’t particularly close to saying this about her.

”Zhang Zhentian, shut your mouth. What right do you have to talk about me like this? What does this matter between Xiao Wei and me have to do with you? You’re not related to Xiao Wei in any way. Really, why poke your nose into other people’s business?” Li Jiayuan was furious, speaking without any filter as Zhang Zhentian chuckled coldly before responding.

”Heh, Li Jiayuan, you really think too much of yourself. ’What am I to Xiao Wei?’ Let me tell you, Xiao Wei is Xia Jing’s brother, which makes him my brother too. Do you think I would stand by and let someone bully my brother without taking any action? Do you think that’s possible? Oh, and by the way, I forgot to tell you, I never trusted you. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have left your name off the partnership transfer document. Do you understand now?”

Li Jiayuan had never expected Zhang Zhentian’s scheming to run so deep. Could it be that he knew this day would come? Or was it because Xia Jing had said something that led to this?

That’s just how people are—always blind to their own mistakes, only capable of seeing the mistakes of others. Li Jiayuan never considered whether she was in the wrong. She felt that no matter what she did, she was faultless—the fault lay with others.

”Li Jiayuan, you don’t need to be upset with my words. I just think someone like you isn’t deserving of the love of a good man like Xiao Wei. And don’t tell me how much you love him. You know very well whether you truly love Xiao Wei in your heart. Perhaps you just use Xiao Wei, or maybe you do love him, but Li Jiayuan, I hope when you make a decision, you can consider whether it might hurt someone because of you. It’s better to think carefully before acting. Otherwise, you will lose those who love and care for you, and by then it will be too late. Maybe you think I’m saying too much, but I still want you to know that Xiao Wei doesn’t owe you anything. He accommodates you because he loves you, he respects you. If you keep hurting him, I think it’s better if you’re not together to avoid hurting each other. What do you think?” Zhang Zhentian didn’t hear Li Jiayuan reply, so he continued to speak to her.

Hearing Zhang Zhentian’s words, Li Jiayuan felt he was becoming more and more unreasonable: ”Zhang Zhentian, don’t push it too far. As I said, this is something between Xiao Wei and me, none of your business. Mind your own business. Where is Xiao Wei?”

Zhang Zhentian thought Li Jiayuan was amusing. She was the one who drove Xiao Wei away, and now she was asking where Xiao Wei was. He couldn’t help but think that something was seriously wrong with Li Jiayuan’s brain.
