My Alleged Husband

Chapter 135: Chapter 119 Who is More Important?_1

Li Jiayuan had wanted to rest at home for a day and then go out shopping with Xia Jing the next day. But how could she possibly meet Xia Jing looking like this? If only she had known, she would never have gone out for hotpot!

Now, Li Jiayuan truly regretted it to death. Why on earth did she go for hotpot?

Watching Li Jiayuan sulking, Xiao Wei couldn’t help but ask her, ”Jiayuan, what’s wrong? Don’t be unhappy. So what if we don’t go out? We could just stay at home, and it’s actually quite nice here too!”

Likewise, cheesecake made by Jiayuan was already upset about not being able to go out, and she had barely managed to suppress her anger when Xiao Wei brought it up again, causing Jiayuan to explode. ”Xiao Wei, do you even have the nerve to say that? If I wanted to eat hotpot, why didn’t you stop me? It’s easy for you to say not to go out. Do you have any idea that I had already arranged to go shopping with Elder Sister Xia?! And now, looking like this, how can I possibly go out?”

Xiao Wei finally understood—it was because she couldn’t go shopping that Jiayuan was so furiously upset, wasn’t it?

”Hey, hey, hey, get it straight, okay? It was you who insisted on going, not me dragging you there. Why is it suddenly all my fault? You tell me, wasn’t it you who insisted on going? If I had put a knife to your throat and forced you to go, I’d admit it’s my fault, but you can’t just blame everything on me, right? Isn’t that the truth?” Xiao Wei was genuinely at a loss for words with Li Jiayuan. How could it be like this? It was clearly her own mistake, why couldn’t she recognize and correct it, instead of pushing the blame onto others?

Li Jiayuan felt unhappy upon being confronted this way by Xiao Wei, and she retorted with a stern face, ”Are you even a man? Can’t you just let me have my way for once? I am your wife, after all; is it really necessary for us to argue about who’s right and who’s wrong? Besides, even if it is my fault, can’t you just appease me by saying it’s your fault? What’s wrong with you, can’t you even make your woman happy...”

”Huh—the way you’re talking, I shouldn’t admit it’s your fault, right? Li Jiayuan, sure, you’re my wife, but you can’t just run from the fact when you do something wrong. You tell me, whose fault is it really? And now you say I don’t know how to make a woman happy; let me tell you, if I knew how to make a woman happy, imagine how many women would be chasing me!”

The more Xiao Wei spoke, the angrier he became. Seriously, what kind of reasoning was this? It was one thing to have done something wrong and expecting someone else to console her, but quite another to demand that others admit it was their fault. Xiao Wei just couldn’t comply with that.

Li Jiayuan could let go what Xiao Wei said earlier—deep down, she knew very well that this matter had nothing to do with Xiao Wei at all—it was definitely her choice to go for hotpot, and even if Xiao Wei wanted to, he couldn’t have stopped her. So indeed, it wasn’t Xiao Wei’s fault. But, what Xiao Wei said afterward made Li Jiayuan unhappy. What did he mean by there would be countless women chasing him?

”Xiao Wei, explain yourself. What did you mean by what you just said?” Li Jiayuan demanded fiercely.

Having blurted out such a torrent of words, how could Xiao Wei remember exactly which sentence he’d said?

”Which sentence? I just said so many things at once; how would I know which one you’re asking about?” Xiao Wei replied helplessly to Li Jiayuan.

Xiao Wei genuinely did not know which sentence Li Jiayuan was referring to, but to her, it seemed like Xiao Wei was deliberately mocking her, which made her feel exceedingly uncomfortable.

She was already feeling bad about not being able to go out, and now Xiao Wei’s words were nearly too much for her to take. ”Xiao Wei, have you forgotten? Well, let me remind you. Who was it that just said ’if I knew how to please women, I’d have no idea how many would be chasing after me’? That was you, wasn’t it?”

”Oh—that’s what you were talking about? Then why didn’t you say so earlier? You should’ve pointed it out right away, then you wouldn’t need to be so furiously angry. Am I right?”

Li Jiayuan looked at Xiao Wei’s half-smiling face and felt something odd inside. Why was he looking at me like this?

”Hey, why are you looking at me that way? I just don’t understand. Has Daddy’s eyes come to care only about the child in my belly, leaving no place for me, his daughter?” Li Jiayuan couldn’t be bothered to argue with Xiao Wei about who was wrong anymore. All she wanted was to understand if a biological daughter was really less important than a grandson.

Li Jiayuan remembered what Li Haixiao had said to her, and she felt a little sad. Why had she, always the apple of her father’s eye, suddenly become secondary to her own child?

While Li Jiayuan was at home fretting over who was more important, Xia Jing had a different perspective!

Xia Jing, originally like Li Jiayuan, felt a bit resentful about such matters. However, she later came to realize that it made sense for Old Master Zhang to cherish the child in her womb, considering that Zhentian had chosen her over inheriting the company—a company that was the culmination of Old Master Zhang’s lifelong efforts. Who would willingly accept their hard-earned legacy disappearing just like that? Thus, Xia Jing no longer felt unhappy about being forbidden to go out by Old Master Zhang. On the contrary, she felt quite at ease now, believing that her most important task was to take good care of her pregnancy and deliver a healthy baby boy!

After some thought, Xia Jing decided to give Li Jiayuan a call. Seeing that it was Elder Sister Xia who was calling, Li Jiayuan first felt a burst of joy, but then her mood soured again, thinking that she wasn’t allowed to go out.

”Hello, sister, what’s up?” Li Jiayuan said to Xia Jing with a lack of enthusiasm.

Xia Jing was taken aback by Li Jiayuan’s demeanor.

”Jiayuan, is something wrong? You don’t seem to be in a good mood!” Xia Jing was still pretty sensitive.

”Sister, I can’t come out to go shopping with you!” Li Jiayuan sighed and said to Xia Jing.

”What happened?”

”Xiao Wei and I went for hotpot, and when my dad found out, he said I wasn’t considering the baby’s health by eating hotpot, so he grounded me...”

”Oh, I see, no worries, Jiayuan. Aren’t I also home every day? Isn’t that right?”

Li Jiayuan couldn’t understand why Xia Jing was so content. Could being confined at home be happiness?

”I just don’t get it. Is the child more important in my father’s eyes than his own daughter?” Li Jiayuan expressed to Xia Jing.

”Jiayuan, that kind of thinking isn’t right. I must admit I felt the same way at first. Were my children more important than my freedom? But then I thought it through. Zhentian gave up the company for me, but Zhang Corporation is our father’s lifetime of hard work. Of course, he would hope someone could inherit what he has worked so hard for, don’t you agree?”

Li Jiayuan thought about it and realized that it made sense. She said, ”You’re right, but why does my dad have to be like that too?”

”Jiayuan, our situations are quite similar. Think about it, your dad has been sick and hospitalized, right?”

”Yes!”

”Have you ever considered that your dad is worried whether he’ll be able to hold your child? He wants to spend more years with your child—perhaps ten or even decades. Isn’t that possible? He’s simply transferred the love he has for you onto your child. In reality, he still loves you just the same. Nothing has changed. Sometimes, looking at a problem from a different angle can simplify things a lot. Therefore, you should be understanding of your dad’s good intentions, rather than resenting him for confining you. You need to realize that he’s your father. You are still young, but what about him? He’s already past fifty, so how many more years does he have left to live? Instead of questioning whether he still loves you, you should do more for him. Don’t you think?” Elder Sister Xia earnestly advised Li Jiayuan. She had come to understand all of this, and just when she had, Li Jiayuan encountered a similar problem. So, she felt she should help Li Jiayuan, to prevent her relationship with Li Haixiao from becoming too strained over an unborn child!
