My Alleged Husband

Chapter 142: Chapter 126 Regret_1

”Li Jiayuan, are you out of your mind? You can’t even keep tabs on your own husband and have the nerve to ask others. I’ve never met someone as shameless as you. How can a person like you even survive in this world for so long?” Zhang Zhentian had no idea how to describe Li Jiayuan anymore. He said to her, ”Li Jiayuan, do you know that in my eyes, you’re just like trash right now. I’ll tell you, Xia Jing doesn’t know about this yet, and if you dare to secretly tell her, then you better be prepared for Li Corporation to shut its doors for good!”

After saying his piece, Zhang Zhentian hung up the phone. Li Jiayuan was so angry she stomped her feet, but what could she do? This situation arose because of her own greed, and no one else was to blame.

After hanging up the phone, Zhang Zhentian remembered what Li Jiayuan said about Xiao Wei’s whereabouts. He wondered if Xiao Wei had gone missing because Li Jiayuan had even come to Xia Jing looking for him. Zhang Zhentian was quite worried about Xiao Wei; after all, Xiao Wei wasn’t a bad person by nature, and he was kind-hearted.

Zhang Zhentian decided to give Xiao Wei a call, otherwise, if Xia Jing woke up and learned about these issues, Zhang Zhentian would be in trouble.

One call after another, Xiao Wei didn’t answer. When Xiao Wei heard his phone vibrating, he thought it was Li Jiayuan calling, so he simply ignored it, letting the phone continue to buzz and play its ringtone.

With Xiao Wei not answering the phone, Zhang Zhentian thought something serious must have happened. He got dressed and was about to go out and look for him, but as he was about to leave the house, Xia Jing woke up. She saw Zhang Zhentian all dressed up and was curious about what he was doing.

”Zhentian, what are you up to? It’s so late, do you have something you need to do?” Xia Jing looked at Zhang Zhentian, puzzled.

Zhang Zhentian was in a dilemma. He didn’t know whether he should tell Xia Jing about the situation. If he didn’t tell her and she found out on her own, the consequences would be even worse. Yet, if he chose to tell her, there would be trouble regardless. What should he do?

”Zhentian, why aren’t you speaking? Are you hiding something from me?” Xia Jing, seeing Zhang Zhentian silent, felt he was keeping something from her. She softly said to him, ”Zhentian, I don’t want there to be any secrets between us. If there’s something you don’t tell me and I find out on my own, then please go sleep in the guest room!”

Xia Jing knew that there was nothing much that Zhang Zhentian was afraid of, but the moment she mentioned him sleeping in the guest room, that’s when he’d get scared.

”My dear, stop it. What could I be hiding from you? I’m just going out for a walk. You should go to bed early, it’s not good for the baby,” Zhang Zhentian thought he might get lucky, but a woman’s intuition is keen. If she suspects you’re hiding something, there’s definitely something going on.

Xia Jing sighed and said to Zhang Zhentian, ”Never mind, whether you’re hiding something from me or not, I know it very well in my heart. Since you like sleeping in the guest room so much, from today on, you can start sleeping there...”

Zhang Zhentian said nothing. He wavered for a bit and eventually stammered out the situation!

After listening, Xia Jing did not blame Zhang Zhentian. Instead, she said, ”Zhentian, to be honest, I don’t think Xiao Wei and Li Jiayuan are suitable for each other. What do you think?”

After all these incidents, Zhang Zhentian shared almost the same feelings about Xiao Wei and Li Jiayuan’s relationship.

”I feel the same way. Have you noticed that Li Jiayuan seems like a completely different person compared to before? The old Li Jiayuan might have been a bit of a spoiled rich girl, but she wouldn’t argue with someone over money. But now, she’s willing to fight with Xiao Wei over a business deal. I really don’t understand what she’s thinking. Xiao Wei treats her so well, why can’t she see that?” Zhang Zhentian said to Xia Jing, ”Do you know that she called you and I picked up? Do you know what she called me? She said I was ’a dog trying to catch mice’—just means I’m meddling, right? I’ve never seen someone so rude. I really don’t get what Xiao Wei sees in her!”

”Zhentian, you shouldn’t talk like that. What I’m thankful for now is that I gave the business deal to Xiao Wei in the end, otherwise I would have regretted it to death,” Xia Jing sighed and said to Zhang Zhentian.

...

The two of them were discussing Xiao Wei and Li Jiayuan’s situation in the bedroom, while Li Jiayuan kept calling Xiao Wei. If Xia Jing was of no use, then she would just keep calling.

One, two, three calls, and Xiao Wei didn’t pick up. But on the fourth call, he answered.

When Li Jiayuan heard the phone connect, she quickly spoke up, ”Xiao Wei, where are you? Why didn’t you tell me before you went out? What kind of husband does that?”

Upon hearing her words, Xiao Wei couldn’t help but mock Li Jiayuan, ”Li Jiayuan, you say I’m not a good husband, but are you being a good wife? Li Jiayuan, I let you do whatever you want, even things I don’t like. As long as you ask, I will indulge you. But this time, you’ve really gone too far. Would you do anything for money? Are you in such desperate need? Even if you were really short on money, you could have asked me for it, I wouldn’t refuse. But why do you treat me this way? Do you value a business deal over me in your heart?”

”Xiao Wei, I...”

”Li Jiayuan, one shouldn’t go too far. To be honest, I’m really starting to regret marrying you. I knew people change after marriage, but I never expected you—Li Jiayuan, to change so drastically. It’s to the point where I barely recognize you. Maybe it’s better if we just divorce. I’m tired of living like this...”

In the end, Xiao Wei suggested they get a divorce. He didn’t want to live this way, arguing over every little thing every day. It was too exhausting!

Li Jiayuan never expected Xiao Wei would suggest divorce, it was something she had never even considered. She felt like no matter what, Xiao Wei would never abandon her, but now he was asking for a separation over one mistake she made. It was more than she could accept. Li Jiayuan yelled at Xiao Wei, ”Get lost, Xiao Wei! I’m telling you, divorcing me is impossible. I’d rather die than divorce you. If you really want to divorce me, then you better be ready to collect my body!”

Li Jiayuan hung up the phone, feeling a piercing pain in her heart. Why, why are you doing this to me? To ask for a divorce over such a small thing... If you really didn’t want to give up the land, you could’ve just said so. I’m not insisting on forcing you to give it up. I don’t ask for much; I just wish for my family to live peacefully, without quarreling over money. But now, I’m fighting with you over money. I’m sorry, truly sorry, Xiao Wei. If you leave me, what am I supposed to do? What about our child? I was wrong; I shouldn’t have argued with you over money. I shouldn’t have let greed control my heart. I was supposed to hold onto my original intention. But why can’t I even control my own desires? I regret it now...

Li Jiayuan had come to realize her regret, but when she tried to call Xiao Wei to tell him, his phone was already turned off. Suddenly, she felt as though she had lost the entire world, left all alone. The taste her heart left was unpleasant. She wanted to walk this path with Xiao Wei, truly, not for any other reason. She had now realized that she couldn’t live without Xiao Wei. She was determined to find him and bring him back home.

After Xiao Wei turned off his phone, he lay down on the hotel room bed and fell asleep. When he woke up, it was already the next day’s noon!
