Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 998: Chapter 793: Shaer’s True Objective

Shaer sneered, ”Heh, unlike you, I’m not reckless, disregarding what others think when I act.

He only needs his Undead Tribe to eradicate evil. Are there any non-evil followers of Rose?”

Celene replied with her own ’heh’, ”I’m really not used to you being so understanding, Shaer! I’m becoming more and more interested in this William... what’s so good about him that he turned you into a gentle darling?”

Shaer replied coldly, ”Perhaps it’s because he can understand what I’m saying, but I guess you wouldn’t know.”

Hill silently glanced at that moonlight... So Celene is aware of the consequences of her actions, yet between Shaer and countless lives, she chose to help Shaer.

Just like Shaer at this moment, she certainly knows that the only one benefiting from her scheme is Celene, transforming her back from Suren to the powerful Moon Goddess before her, but she doesn’t show much anger... What she hates most is losing the Shadow Weave, not casually helping Celene, whom she’s always called a perpetual foe.

Perhaps they will continue to fight... but that fight is between the two of them. Anyone foolish enough to try to meddle would probably just be crushed by these twin siblings together.

Shaer suddenly spoke in a gloomy tone, ”Amanata wants to resurrect.”

”That’s Mystra’s issue,” Celene replied straightforwardly, ”What does it have to do with me?”

”You won’t help?” Shaer snorted, ”Isn’t that your most beloved sun?”

”When has the sun ever disappeared?” Celene answered bluntly, ”He doesn’t represent the sun... and even if you destroy this sun, I have a way to find another one.”

Shaer was furious, ”Why do you insist on turning our world into such chaos? Wasn’t it good as it was in the past?”

”I don’t understand, there were Primordials existing in the original Toril too, why are you so angry over more lives!” Celene said unhappily, ”If you don’t like the bustle, why not stay in the Shadow Realm? Surely, this world can’t only fulfill your desires?

I love the bustle! I love a world with people coming and going!”

Shaer sneered and said, ”Yes, such a great world! Even Demon Lords can be captured as slaves... I just feel countless filthy desires, truly disgusting!”

”You’re still so naive and stubborn...” Celene suddenly sighed, ”Isn’t it nice to just watch these things?

Every Divinity that comes from these lives, doesn’t it actually help us to have more of our own will?

At least compared to the dark Toril, you and I have both become stronger than before... Back then, we were only embodiments of Primordial Power, not the Celene and Shaer of today.

I really don’t understand, do you truly want to become that so-called embodiment of tranquil nothingness again? To abandon your long list of Divinities?”

”My heart tells me... this Toril is better off destroyed.” Shaer replied after a long silence.

”Then I’ll still stop you, my sister.” Celene said softly, ”But I hope you can soon free yourself from the mindset of the Lady of the Void... Even if you continue to commit misdeeds, let it be from your own thoughts, not controlled by those past things.

You should have long been like me, abandoning some unwanted things... Take a walk again in this world, see what the reality of the world truly is... We are the masters of Primordial Power, we shouldn’t be controlled by it... Look at AO, that’s our future!”

Hill silently listened to the conversation between these two sisters... The kindest Moon Goddess is actually the coldest, what she wants is the most.

The benevolent Suren seems to be just an illusion, like that ethereal moonlight, it looks bright but is actually cold... Indeed, she has saved many poor souls casually, and even due to some chaotic assistance, her Divine Power has significantly decreased.

But she doesn’t care about anything as long as what she wants to see is still there... Even if the people she just protected die in those disasters, she won’t care.

She saves people when she wants to, and when she doesn’t, she can watch them die with open eyes.

Indeed, this is true chaos...

Shaer’s heart of void might contain more things than Celene’s, with her capricious and suspicious nature, she pursues instead the simplest things.

Hill didn’t understand why these two sisters chose to have a friendly exchange here at this moment... Shaer’s ability to candidly respond to Celene’s doubts, instead of continuing to provoke, is the reason this communication can continue.

But Shaer’s doing so means she concedes to Celene, which is simply unbelievable, especially for such a capricious goddess who would greatly reward a subordinate for taking down a Silvermoon Priest!

But he soon understood the reason.

Celene spoke softly, ”Although the moonlight is always bright, the shadows under the moonlight, of course, still exist as usual... My promise is only related to you, not to Mask.

”I despise those ugly beings who use moonlight for theft and murder.”

Hill blinked. Right, Celene had reclaimed the Moonlight Priesthood... Just as Lansendel could use sunlight to disperse shadows, Celene could certainly ensure there were no shadows under the moonlight.

However... Hill suppressed his urge to look at Celene, who was blatantly holding a double standard... As if the followers of Shaer in the shadows didn’t commit murder too!

Can there really be a distinction between killing for money and killing for faith?

Isn’t it all murder!

Oh, right, Shaer’s believers are absolutely forbidden from acting for personal gain or without the Goddess’s instruction and supervision... So all murders are actually directed by Shaer and her high priests.

But these priests also help the followers fulfill some dark desires of the worshippers, to win new followers and ensure loyalty to their faith!

For instance, dealing with business competitors, such trivial matters Shaer’s priests would also handle.

Facing Celene, who seemed almost new to him, Hill felt he could only remain silent, but his mental sea was almost in turmoil... Could it be that Lansendel was Toril’s most innocent deity?

Thinking of Lansendel’s achievements... hmm... Hill could only secretly be grateful, Teraxil truly is a wonderful world.

”How long will they fight?” Celene asked wearily, ”Isn’t that thing called a Wax Melt Demon? I remember they could directly enter dimensional spaces... Oh, right, now it’s not so easy to open a space in Toril, so can it still turn into smoke?”

”We’re waiting for it to turn into a smoke pillar,” Shaer replied coldly, ”The number 11 is more pleasing to the eye.”

Rose had a total of 12 Wax Melt Demons... These things were made from high-level succubi, turning the Queen of Succubus into a mortal enemy of Rose.

The Queen of Succubus’s anger was not that Rose killed her people... demons have no sense of standing united against a common foe, her anger was that everyone knows the original form of Wax Melt Demons is succubi... To a demoness who has always prided herself on unparalleled beauty, this was a humiliation.

Books introducing such creatures in Toril always detailed their true form: a mass of shapeless, mud-like monstrosity, looking like a continuously melting, 7-foot-tall candle, with a blood-red eyeball set into its body. Eight whip-like tentacles writhed around it, like a crackling furious storm.

Even if they could transform into very beautiful humans or elves, their true form was firmly recorded in all books.

The Queen of Succubus had tried several times to have her lovers destroy Rose’s silver palace in the Web Labyrinth... the residence of the twelve Wax Melt Demon maids, but the result was that Rose almost turned the Queen of Succubus into the thirteenth maid.

Fortunately, those lovers, although losing in scheming to Rose, were not lacking in strength, and in the end, they managed to save her.

But since then, Rose hasn’t been able to create new Wax Melt Demons, the Queen of Succubus nearly led her whole kind to Six Fingers... as long as it could suppress Rose and create enough trouble for her, this queen would rather be sent by Six Fingers to entertain guests.

In certain ways, these maids were an extension of Rose’s will... the accessories on their waist were the only passes to the Spider Magic Net.

Hill lowered his eyelids, Shaer was planning a one-hit kill, not only making Rose lose her limbs but also obtaining that pass.

Otherwise, as long as a Wax Melt Demon had even a breath left, it would surely destroy the pass token before completely dying.

It seems Shaer wasn’t planning to attack the Pseudo Magic Net used by the Undead Tribe, she had her sights on the half that Rose had stolen... with the Spider Queen’s greed, it must have already been assimilated into her spider web.

Is Shaer planning to take down Rose’s lair?

”No wonder you’re using A Thousand Petals in One Night!” Celene quickly realized, ”Just right, Rose opened the web leading to the Shadow Realm, as long as your high priests charge in with A Thousand Petals in One Night, at least half of her web, which had drawn countless worlds, can be swallowed by the Shadow Realm!

No wonder it’s you, how long have you been planning this? I was wondering why you let Mask open a hole in the Shadow Realm!

You must have wanted that web for a long time?”

”Could I really let a little spider climb over my head?” Shaer coldly chuckled, ”Even a stray dog abandoned by Coron dares to strike at me!”

”Rose’s nature is greedy... her desires know no bounds, but she indeed has some means,” Celene said indifferently, ”Otherwise she wouldn’t have climbed from being a demon at the mercy of others to an Abyssal Lord, and eventually becoming a deity again.

Be careful... it’s not uncommon for a deity to stumble in the gutter?”

”The Wax Melt Demon’s residence is at the center of the Spider Magic Net,” Shaer said slowly, ”So as long as she goes in, A Thousand Petals in One Night will self-destruct.”
