Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 927: Chapter 723: Bane’s Followers Striving Hard

This was a very rare night in Toril, with even the usually bright and dazzling Suren being overshadowed by the towering flames.

The Undead Tribe had scattered a large amount of Combustion Powder within ten meters near the city wall, then cast a row of Fire Wall Technique. Amidst the rapidly blazing fire, the pile of half-orc bodies gradually turned to ash, washed away by the melted snowwater, slowly flowing along the city wall towards the western sea.

This basic material for making fireworks was innumerable in the hands of the Undead Tribe... Even people without patience would try to see if they could become an Alchemist at first... To them, the high entry cost of alchemy materials was negligible.

Moreover, the crucial point is that they wouldn’t admit their lack of skill until confirming they indeed couldn’t do it. Being able to make fireworks requires being part of a minority!

Most people’s final products end up being these fixed-ratio mixed powders manufactured by brute force, completely failing at the stage of encasing the firework shell... The numerous junior alchemical products of the Undead Tribe are because of the immense base number.

Therefore, most of the Undead Tribe are just trying the semi-automated production lines of the Alchemy Workshop; making money in this profession requiring flexibility and skill is still only for a minority.

But these Undead can understand... Even in games that don’t emphasize skill, only a few can make money from life’s professions.

On the contrary, everyone respects the life profession masters in this game more: Technical experts always sound more appealing than professional vendors.

Although everyone actually relies on their intelligence.

The flames burned more fiercely, half-orcs had retreated to a distant place... Accustomed to the cold World’s Ridge, they do not hold the same reverence for fire as their other kin.

The only trouble is on both sides of the Ice City, where a large number of Mages have been tirelessly repairing, while the ocean beneath the western city wall has burned three meters deep, already forming a layer of water.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, the elves who had been drawing bows and shooting arrows finally got some rest time.

Though the other three directions had fewer chances to rest... Despite the large number of corpses, they burn out nearly in an hour.

But the defense zone of the temple is small, and the number of Undead Tribe is so large they switch defense every hour... Only the commanders of various professions work in shifts of four, each on duty for 6 hours.

This time, without unified battlefield command, each family manages its own affairs, causing some disorder.

But for the Undead Tribe, even if they make mistakes, it doesn’t matter; the advantage of having many people lies in this... Under the city wall are many bored people waiting for them to make errors!

Hill thinks the most tense on the battlefield among the Undead Tribe are those Priests guarding several Toril people’s defense zones, for a perfect mission reward, these girls... at least outwardly girls... have remained in a state of high mental focus.

Actually, there are many male Priests among the Undead Tribe, but while their skills are good, their tempers are more irritable, unable to tolerate constantly erring companions, same for NPCs.

Even among the few with decent temper, generally, not many dare stand among so many girls.

Instead, those dressed as women act fearlessly, thriving like a fish in water...

As the flames lowered and gradually dissipated, the half-orcs fiercely intensified their attack.

Their expressions biting at their lips and gnashing their teeth were amusing... Their bare feet on the heat-retaining ground, a bit like walking into a grill.

Even though after waiting another dozen minutes, heavy snow would accumulate again, they were unwilling to wait even a second... When the flames just stop is when the city wall is most vigilant, the half-orcs of the World’s Ridge may lack this intelligence, but the Orc Leaders and Necromancers surely don’t.

Hill quietly looked northward; the tunnel they were digging should almost reach the edge of Luskan, this method of diverting attention seemed too low-end.

Uncertain if there would be new tricks, Hill felt he must be cautious.

Even if there were gaps in the defense, it wouldn’t lead to his failure... But Hill felt that in this war where he had a comprehensive advantage, giving the enemy a chance due to carelessness would be more shameful.

As a meticulous Mage, he doesn’t want any slip-ups.

Hill expanded his Mental Sea infinitely, quietly sensing everything in Luskan.

Sure enough, 3 minutes after the flame rekindled, Hill’s intuition heard the sound of soil being heavily dug on the northeast side.

Hill took out a palm-sized pure Crystal Plate, gently pressing it with his right hand, searching memory for how many cracks had been sealed when repairing the mine.

Closing his eyes to intricately trace with the crystal through the Mental Sea, when opened them again, a clearly visible, meticulously proportioned three-dimensional map appeared on the plate.

There are also memory crystals like these on Toril, but they’re typically made into small crystal balls, though both are about the same size.

By the grace of the God of Time and Space, Teraxil’s approach to processing memory crystals is more scientific, almost standardized... William’s Alchemy Factory sells a large number of similar crystal plates, and the price could be considered a steal... compared to the mages’ own creations.

Hill, of course, didn’t hesitate to stockpile a large batch; the craftsmanship in making these is no secret, but Hill doesn’t know how to turn luxury goods into industrial products on a production line.

But the God of Time and Space certainly has enough time to discover the formula for them... after resonating with the River of Time and Space, time ceased to be a fixed flow rate.

Hill looked at his finished product with satisfaction, and then compared it with the northeast corner to find their route... at the very least, he needs to know how far the necromancers need to dig before they find they have run out of road.

Hmm... these necromancers are actually quite cautious; they chose the most troublesome path... they need to dig at least another 30 meters to reach the first gap on the map, and here Hill filled it with earth, which may lead them to suspect it was altered due to the world’s reformation.

Hill suddenly raised his brows, suddenly realizing that these necromancers are quite intelligent!

They even considered the possibility of crustal activity occurring over in Luskan, where part of the tunnel might get buried under earth... Now this path, compared to the other two little paths, is much farther, but if considering Luskan’s original circumstance, this is the only road that has undergone preliminary hardening of the earthen tunnel!

This path is actually very complex, some places look like two parallel roads, just close together, but for someone like Hill who once blocked roads one by one, it was easy to discover the secret.

Hill highlighted the twisted little path on the map, instructing List: ”Send it to the Alchemy Hall, directly hand it to the Temporal Artifact, and explain clearly what’s going on, he knows how to arrange for the undead tribe to block it.

I have no idea where those undead people outside are hiding, nor do I understand when he plans to end this battle.”

List directly arranged for a bird puppet to carry the crystal plate, flying beside him towards the Alchemy Hall.

Hill looked at the lively goose and sighed enviously: Fran’s alchemy skills are becoming stronger and stronger, and he couldn’t distinguish this goose from a magical beast goose with just a glance.

Although the energy fluctuations were still somewhat large... unless one was specially knowledgeable about the levels of magical beasts in nature, one wouldn’t be able to discern it.

The puppets Fran gave him numbered only 2 or 30 animal forms, seeming as if he didn’t make many, maybe just for practicing.

But even if Hill had two more hands, he couldn’t create such exquisite puppets...

Hill sighed lightly; he had too much to learn, but he really couldn’t do what Fran did, dedicating himself to alchemy for thirty years without any progress, focusing solely on the analysis and deconstruction of various arrays.

He wanted too much, and therefore couldn’t be so single-mindedly dedicated.

”Sir.” List quickly returned, ”There’s a situation; Mirabar’s dwarves came for help, the necromancers dug through their underground city; that gem dragon may have guarded the main road, but they are still worried about the children’s safety, so they hope to send the underage dwarves to us.

Laila wants to accept this request but needs your approval.”

Hill went through it in his mind and understood why Laila, who had already received similar autonomous permission from Hill, specifically mentioned it... In this situation, arranging for the undead tribe’s large corps to fetch these little dwarves was unavoidable.

Laila wasn’t sure whether the undead tribe would be willing to do this; the risk was high, and it could easily become a thankless task. Who knows if something might happen on the road, resulting in any sacrifice of the little dwarves?

Dwarves are not a reasonable race... In past years, such tasks that easily offend people were usually carried out by Tyr’s Righteous Knights.

But Laila didn’t know how to bring up this matter with Hill: she had just joined Hill’s territory and was only half-understanding about Hill and the undead tribe’s relationship.

Hill smiled and instructed List: ”For such matters, simply discuss them with the Temporal Artifact, let Laila go to the Alchemy Hall with Lucy. She’s a bit unfamiliar with the Temporal Artifact, tell Laila she must get used to establishing good communication with allies.”

”Yes, sir.”

”Wait, let Laila also discuss with the Temporal Artifact about how to solve the situation if Mirabar’s dwarves request aid... You can agree, but be careful not to take risks.

The necromancers’ attack over there is likely meant to distract Luskan.”

”Understood, sir.”

Watching List disappear, Hill couldn’t help but laugh; Bane’s necromancers probably didn’t account for how many undead people there are.
