Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 944: Chapter 740: The Undead Tribe’s Tactful Request

William smoothly changed the topic: ”This Miss Edna, do you think she might be connected to Mystra?”

Hill blinked.

William, oblivious, said: ”Indeed, according to the usual style of the Tablets of Fate, there must be a teammate for Mystra who might bring conflict.

Let’s see if she has the ability to turn foes into friends, bringing Azuth and the descendants of the former Mystra into her loyal fold, then choose the most fitting path under various emotional impacts, and earn the recognition of Azuth’s Lesser Goddesses of Magic toward Mystra.

Or she’s unable to handle this young lady who has become the Master of White Dragons, creating an everlasting enemy for herself... someone like Cyric is too troublesome, leading to world restructuring at every move; it’s more suitable to have an adversary that can openly contend with her.

This way, Toril doesn’t need to worry about the incomprehensible thoughts of this goddess... whatever she plans to do, there’ll be a relentless enemy to intercept her...”

Hill silently bowed his head and then began to check if the door of the Alchemy Hall was shut properly.

”I’ve long sealed the place completely when gossiping about others!” William said proudly, ”See, Toril loves this kind of confrontation... Maybe Laila’s twins will be the spark for the two young girls to start fighting!

I reckon Midnight is either in Deepwater City or Shadow Valley, just waiting for the right moment to emerge.

Tsk... She has her Chosen... Edna has white dragons and the Undead Tribe! Divine powers can’t be used, spells are difficult to utilize, hehe, what else can Midnight do?

If she’s not foolish, she won’t fall out with Edna directly... Haha... She’ll have to find a way to build a good relationship with Edna, right?

Let’s see what Kelben can do! This time, the Deity of Mages Azuth won’t have any mishaps!”

Hill understood what William was trying to say; he suspected AO wished to create another pair like Suren and Shaer... though he didn’t plan to interfere directly, stirring things up subtly wasn’t bad either.

Yet, was this how William interpreted Hill’s reminder? Could it be due to the absence of any issue with Azuth?

No... it’s also related to Edna not exhibiting a trace of any special laws... Even though Hill had witnessed the faint blue primordial power gradually fading from Edna, signs of the law are not visible to everyone; Hill’s eyes were unique.

Deities capable of noticing Edna’s peculiarity back then were thrown into chaos due to their expulsion from Toril, and by the time they had the leisure to observe the world again, nothing special could be seen on Edna...

In fact, according to AO’s design, Edna’s environment was indeed harsh: at the start, the place she was in, Agleya, was already under the scrutiny of dragons... If the Lord of Agleya were just an Archmage, without the ability to use spells, Tyr’s Paladins and some elves might have had to fight desperately to protect the city’s inhabitants from the Ancient Dragon’s claws.

Refugees like Edna, judging by Toril’s tradition, wouldn’t receive protection... the small aid station of the Agleya Temple couldn’t accommodate so many people.

Noblewomen like Edna and her mother, at this time, were often in the greatest danger.

Yet the first step failed... the power of the Lord of Agleya... somewhat exceeded normal imagination...

No matter, there was still the second step: Deepwater City.

The scheming Kelben, the lurking apprentices of the Black Staff Tower... plus the neighboring Agleya City, which might end up fighting Kelben, could all trigger Edna’s crisis sense to recall her true memories.

But the encounters with the Undead Tribe led the hesitant Laila to find another path, and this lady was always adept at doing whatever she intended immediately... Most importantly, after spending much time with the Undead Tribe, Edna’s willpower strengthened remarkably, she wouldn’t cry out of fear over small matters, not even when witnessing the hideous, terrifying attacks from frenzied half-orcs, did the young girl feel fear.

So now Edna... she indeed behaves like a young girl mature for her age... in the Toril World, there are plenty of such individuals in their tens.

If Hill didn’t know the truth... he might have truly believed William’s analysis, logical as it was... William’s thoughts indeed soared...

Hill pursed his lips, trying hard to stifle his laughter: So is William enthusiastically helping Edna to make her equal to Midnight?

Never mind, he didn’t need to say much... at least what Edna felt was gentle kindness at every turn.

Their conversation was in a completely enclosed environment; William’s face should still be able to preserve his dignity... right?

Hill suddenly asked: ”Is Spencer Knight beside you?”

”Hmm?” William replied puzzledly, ”Of course he is. Matters relating to the Undead Tribe can’t be entrusted to Saral’s people, Naven brought the Guard with him to the Divine Kingdom with me; my King’s Guard is now specifically managing the Undead Tribe across different worlds.

Although generally, the avatars of the Temporal Artifact can handle typical matters, his judgment, while accurate, may not always be the right call, so there must be someone always watching over, ready to come to me for handling matters when necessary.”

Hill tilted his head, revealing a satisfied smile: ”Spencer Knight is indeed working hard.

By the way, I wonder how Uncle Adrian is doing? If there’s a chance, please let him know: Grandfather has arrived in Toril and is currently studying the magical concepts here in my territory.”

”Uh...” William was distracted by him, ”I know about that! Your little fairies called out so much that everyone knew about it that day.

Adrian is still in Central City; he should know about it too. There are a lot of undead there, all new recruits hired by the families.

It’s not that I’m not letting him return to his Magic Tower, but the labs in the Central Castle are enough for him, and there’s an endless supply of potion materials from the undead. I think he’s quite willing to continue his work there.

The relationship between humans and that group of elves still has some issues; there has to be a powerful lord in Central City who can happily coexist with the undead.

After all, Adrian just ascended to Legendary status... Before I ascended to the Starry Sky, I asked him; Adrian himself estimated that he wouldn’t consider heading to the Starry Sky for at least 100 years, as he has to train his students first.”

Hill responded softly, ”That’s good too... Grandfather will be happy.”

William wasn’t puzzled by Hill’s topic; in his heart, Hill was always an emotional person, and he smiled as he asked, ”I think that White Dragon Queen might throw all her white dragon hatchlings for you to raise... Edna’s money is her money, but yours isn’t, and you can certainly spend as much as you want.

I know you don’t lack money, but won’t Agleya City have any opinions?”

”The newly appeared mountain range, its location and size are good,” Hill said slowly, ”It just happens to block all paths to Agleya from Neverwinter, except for that big road by the sea.

But the mountain is purely an earth mountain. If one has the heart, it’s quite climbable.

Although I’ve scattered a lot of plant seeds on the range, unfortunately, the trees are still quite small.”

He couldn’t use Nature’s Blessing as freely as in Teraxil... it’s better not to expose one’s true strength in Toril... Just look at Elaströ and Elminster. Everyone knows they’re strong, but how strong exactly, or what their limits are, no one can say for certain.

The long-lived and well-lived people in Toril are all old silver coins.

So even though these trees grow well and become three-year-old seedlings in a year, they’re still just seedlings.

”Those white dragon hatchlings are indeed very suitable...” William quickly understood Hill’s meaning.

The army of Agleya City isn’t large; it’s impossible to station them in such desolate places... Hill’s puppets are strong indeed, but issuing a kill-order indiscriminately isn’t something Hill, who aligns with the Kind Faction, would do.

But white dragons... and a large group of juvenile white dragons, who could expect them to have enough intelligence to understand whom they can or cannot kill?

Lucy interrupted the conversation between the two: ”His Majesty William, Master, representatives from the Mirabar Dwarves have arrived. Ms. Laila doesn’t know how to handle it... They’ve brought the Purple Crystal Dragon over, and it’s severely injured.”

”Hill...” William spoke slowly, ”Just let the Undead handle it! Don’t show yourself.”

”I know.” Hill replied with a smile, ”Of course I know.”

William fell into silence, and the doors of the Alchemy Hall suddenly opened. Crowds of Undead Priests rushed into the hall, slapping their hands onto the rows of screens on either side of the hall: those were their mission managers.

These time-limited and limited-quantity tasks can’t be received directly with a tablet, only with the managers here in the hall.

It seems to be arranged this way to save excessive computation costs of the Temporal Artifact.

William never used to be this frugal... It seems that the spatial passages on Toril aren’t that easy to open, or else William wouldn’t be this cautious.

”Hillhill...” The undead who completed the task noticed Hill standing at the top, ”Do you have time to research some potions with stronger mana recovery?”

In the past, a bottle of Efficacious Potion could restore a third or even half; now it’s hard to even reach a fifth... How we miss your Mana Regeneration Method!”

”I’ll ask Grandfather for you...” Hill took a few seconds of silence before speaking; understanding plant traits doesn’t necessarily mean making better potions.

The only thing he could do is give Fran a complete volume of the Flora and Mineral Compendium of Toril, and at the same time open his material library to him.

”Tsk... Do you know how to talk?” a female priest pulled the guy who spoke nonsense before aside, ”Hill, don’t mind this fool. He actually wants to ask... Can you set up a Water of Tranquility for us outside?

An hour of unlimited Mana Bar would be enough for us to fill the blood of that dragon!”
