Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 921: Chapter 717: Signal from the World’s Ridge

Hill surveyed the surroundings... various alchemy items used in Luskan now carried a strong Undead Tribe imprint.

Most family gangs that came to Toril this time brought along some small alchemy workshops purchased from William. This was after they realized they would be staying in a world for a long time and strongly demanded William to open the purchase rights... After experiencing the previous few worlds, they were very clear on how unwise it was to buy basic alchemy supplies directly from the Temporal Artifact.

They could all gather their own materials; who didn’t have some mining skills... Toril actually had quite a bit of basic minerals, the lack of many mines was because there wasn’t enough power to secure them.

Who knows when a dragon might pass by your mine...

Moreover, their mining methods were too primitive, relying entirely on oppressing or deceiving the impoverished.

The Undead Tribe, however, used Earth Magic for prospecting and mining!

And most people, when passing by high mountains and forests, would casually dig a few shovels, cut a few trees.

Which family doesn’t have some family tasks! It’s not like they require family members to submit money, so even though task rewards only provide gang contribution, those families with a basic setup of at least ten thousand people can provide adequate living materials for their members through these... And those with even more people naturally have extra resources to sell for profit.

Plus, with the efficiency and precision of the alchemy workshops, the cost for these families to produce 100 arrows was 50 copper coins, while they sold them to elves for basically 90 copper.

But if elves made them themselves, no matter how skilled the technique, the cost would be over 120 copper... Moreover, no matter how hard they worked, they couldn’t produce that many in a single day!

Not to mention how much time they saved, wouldn’t it be better to spend that energy making some special arrows?

The elves instantly became major customers of the Undead Tribe.

And the short spears and javelins of the Paladins are even less worth mentioning, especially for the Righteous Knights corps, almost every Paladin has a small mountain of them behind them.

Most of the supplies provided by the Tampas War Guard were sent to the Temple of Heim... the followers of the Guardian God were used to the days when the master family covered the costs during work, they didn’t prepare much themselves, even though Heim Temple’s pay was much higher than Tyr’s, they were used to spending money only for themselves.

Unlike the Righteous Knights corps, they changed their suppliers the moment they learned about the Undead Tribe’s equipment prices, and some of Tyr’s young Paladins directly bought the white iron warhammers produced by the Undead Tribe as their combat weapons, then daily soaked their warhammers with Holy Power, striving to resonate with their weapons.

However, there are only a few thousand of them, basically, the Black Rose family monopolized them, and they have a great relationship with each other. If it weren’t for the temporary unavailability of the Dimensional Space Gate, other regions’ Righteous Knights corps might have come looking too.

Tyr’s followers also liked saving money...

Though the war zones arranged by Black Rose weren’t in the same place as that of Tyr Paladins’, the priests following these Paladins were mainly from Black Rose.

Hill saw ’Xiao Liuliu’ standing at the front commanding, this lady usually avoided standing upfront.

However, Hill could understand why Black Rose would arrange this good-tempered lady as the priest commander... The other few, encountering those excessively brave and reckless youths, holding back from berating them for even a minute was a miracle.

Hill watched the battle scene over there with interest.

Many young Righteous Knights were already hot-blooded, standing at the battlement throwing for long periods... even unable to hear their commanders’ shouts of anger.

The priests could only helplessly release a kind of Holy Spring under ’Xiao Liuliu’s’ command... letting the cold water directly splash on the faces of these hot-headed young men.

This lady’s methods, although gentle, were quite effective, at least those young Paladins shot by long arrows across were awakened to their folly, knowing to hide by the battlement edge before each throw.

Though after fighting a little while, many couldn’t control their impulses again.

The Righteous Knights corps seemed somewhat rigid about their stance requirements... except for some high-level knights passing by who would knock on their heads hard, others just shouted but wouldn’t leave their positions.

This stubborn behavior... no wonder every Paladin Legion of Tyr has a record of being annihilated...

Hill noticed a small path: drawing an oblique line from Tyr Paladin’s defense area straight to the Black Rose defense area on the other side, in between a small building was placed... They were using sleds to transport people and goods to both sides.

Hill estimated this defense area was applied by Black Rose themselves, if anything happened, Black Rose could charge to the Righteous Knights corps almost instantly.

Hill quietly watched the battlefield, actually if it wasn’t for the inclusion of Toril people’s own defense areas, with the Undead Tribe’s capability, it could almost be considered a slaughter scene.

Many families hadn’t actually participated in the wall defenses at all, including some battle-oriented families he was familiar with, none seemed to be there.

Hill could guess what they were planning to do... this could be considered the Undead Tribe’s most adept way of fighting... intercepting halfway.

He leaned back on the sofa, glancing at the northern mountains, wondering when the other side would make their next move.

The night gradually spread, yet the boundless snow reflected Suren’s silvery moonlight, making it appear almost like daylight.

”Hill!” Purwell appeared before him, ”I heard the call of my kind... He said there’s something important he needs to discuss with you... If you don’t go, he might be in trouble.”

”Is it that little whale from last time?” Hill asked softly.

”No... it’s another...” Purwell’s little orb suddenly jumped, ”Hill, he said he was caught by necromancers afterward!

After you rescued me... I’m a bit worried... Could it be that those necromancers figured out how to capture an Otherworldly Whale through their research on me?”

The little whale was on the verge of tears: ”It’s all my fault... my blind trust ended up harming not only myself... if my race suffers because of me, how would I have the right to continue living?”

Hill had no choice but to let him fly over quickly, as they were still above the clouds.

But he was also worried about any conspiracy, so he prepared for battle... How to put it~ although Toril was miserable due to the world’s collapse, it was only during this time Hill dared to be so bold.

The gods couldn’t descend, and those Great Archmages or Archmages were hiding at home studying how to cast spells in such a troublesome environment.

Currently, Hill could be considered the strongest among the people freely roaming outside.

Although he didn’t rely on magic... but on his own strength.

Hill first took out the Holy Relic Painting, applied some beneficial spells, then donned a pair of gloves woven with Mithril Thread and Crystal Flower Thread, changed into the Crystal Flower Demigod Robe, and put the Ring of Winter on his finger.

The Ice Snow Shoulder Guards and Ice Snow Cloak quickly covered his body. After putting on the hoods of both the robe and cloak, Purwell flew to the location of the compatriot.

Hill discovered the true inviter... no, dragons... Two enormous white dragons stood firmly beside the severely injured whale.

Their pale powder and faded, marble-striped scales indicated they were Ancient White Dragons. They were both looking up at the newly appeared Otherworldly Whale and the human on its back, pulling a difficult smile at the corners of their mouths.

Hill could feel their effort to convey goodwill... so he didn’t misunderstand their terrifying and ghastly smile.

In the North, such a powerful and intelligent pair of white dragons... no need to observe the outside.

Arausato and Elvia Tulais... Although Arausato was an Ancient White Dragon, he didn’t receive as much attention as his partner... After all, a white dragon known for cunning was exceptionally rare.

Hill sighed softly, though he heard there was some connection between Laila and Elvia Tulais... Officially said to be a peculiar relationship... But Deepwater City rarely encountered harassment from northern pirates, and it was always rumored that this white dragon had control.

When he discovered the white dragons didn’t participate in this war, Hill had some suspicions... And during those times Laila saw the strong crossbow on the high towers, her concern was whether they would deteriorate from disuse.

Yet he still couldn’t believe... that a Chosen of Mystra, a kind alignment Archmage, truly forged a friendship with an evil faction white dragon.

But from Elvia Tulais’s efforts to express goodwill at this moment, he no longer needed to deceive himself.

”Good evening, Lady Elvia Tulais, Mr. Arausato.” Hill spoke calmly, ”May I know why you’ve summoned me?”

”The undead have invaded the World’s Ridge.” Arausato said with displeasure, ”Even though I dislike humans... I abhor the undead even more... especially those who always want to turn our children into Bone Dragons!”

Elvia Tulais interjected: ”I want to conduct some trade with Luskan. Previously, I dealt with those pirates... Mm~ although what I paid wasn’t money, I gave them protection.

Initially... the Arcane Brotherhood of Luskan would trade with us, if not for Arausato, during his dragon madness, ambushing their tower and stealing a few magic books...”

Arausato mumbled loudly: ”I was out of my mind then! Who made me smell the stench of the undead as I passed by! Of course, I’d attack them first! Once attacked, how could I leave without taking the spoils!

Even if I were completely insane, I wouldn’t give up a single copper coin!”

”Could you be quiet? Arausato.” Elvia Tulais quietly gazed at her partner.

The Ancient White Dragon slightly flapped his wings, stepped two paces to the left, and replaced his answer with silence... a very typical master of the house.
