Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 906: Chapter 702: So the Goddess of Magic Died, So What?

Even though I don’t know who Fran is hiding from, Hill feels that the tone of those two dragons is a bit odd. They probably know something... They are obviously talking about Hill, but there are many strange undertones...

Moreover, why did Fran specifically emphasize that Golun’s Claw would deal with him? So wouldn’t the elders of the Black Dragon? Those two dragons obviously don’t fear these powerful Ancient Dragons.

It’s clear they have backing from dragons.

Just as Purwell entered the gray mist, an angry dragon roar emanated from the city behind: ”Roar! Damn Fran!”

Hill silently glanced at his maternal grandfather: Was that a female dragon? Why is his grandfather always... favored by non-humans?

Fran firmly held his head down, not letting him look back: ”The Black Dragons have peculiar notions; they love to create powerful Dragonborn... It’s not about romantic entanglements at all; they would seek anyone as long as they’re powerful enough.

Since I tied with the elder of the Black Dragon Clan... uh... they’ve been harassing me ever since. Otherwise, I wouldn’t always pack away my Magic Tower whenever I leave home, just in case I have to relocate.

Didn’t you hear what she said? She was merely cursing me and doesn’t necessarily want to find me.

If there truly were romantic disputes, you think those two Black Dragons are fools? They’re lazy, not brainless.”

Hill pouted: ”How unfortunate...”

Purwell landed on the water, a small light orb appeared next to Hill: ”Hill... the storm in the air is fiercer than in the water; I’d better swim out!”

Hill looked surprised: ”Eh? So are those dragons unable to leave because they want to fly?”

The Black Dragon had been speaking so close to him that Hill heard everything.

”Not at all~ Hill.” Purwell floated with a smile within the light orb, ”Did you forget what you put behind the Magic Tower?”

Fran, who had been observing this whale soul, spoke up silently: ”So... is there another space inside this whale? But he looks like a living being, how did you do it?”

Hill laughed: ”Purwell, let’s go down!”

The terrace they were on slowly contracted and rotated, then directly descended into the body of the whale.

Fran looked at the large terrace halted at the top of the Magic Tower, with a sense of familiarity: Hill really loves terraces.

He looked at the noticeably expanded space inside the whale, then raised his head: Did it not even have the spine in addition to the skeleton?

Hill led Fran into the study, and Fran’s eyes lit up immediately: It seems Hill didn’t intend for this Magic Tower to host outsiders, as the study occupies almost half the top floor, with a ceiling height of eight meters. The room is filled with sky-high bookshelves loaded with books, mostly Magic Books.

Fran squinted contentedly, no wonder Hill said Toril is a world with a vast variety of spells... This truly is a paradise for mages!

Hill held back his grandfather, who was about to head toward the shelves: ”Let’s first take a look at the treasure that helps Purwell resist the space storm...

Although Purwell’s body has a portion mixed with Mithril, it’s not a three-meter-thick Mithril Plate after all. Only something above that level can withstand these Law-created Elemental Storms.

It was indeed my oversight, for it’s not much harm compared to the end of Teraxil’s world.

And Purwell didn’t even tell me...”

”Because it blocked it after all!” the transparent little whale retorted defiantly.

”Next time, tell me... Otherwise, how can I strengthen your capabilities?

This time it was a space storm, which got blocked, but what if next time it’s something else? If I assume your defensive power is sufficient and ignore it, are you planning to be left with just a skeleton?

All right, I’m going to explain to my grandfather how I made a living being into my ship spirit. Do you plan to eavesdrop and help me make up for any missing details?” Hill asked slowly.

”I remember, I’ll inform you next time.” The small light orb quickly vanished before Hill.

Hill smiled at Fran, who looked puzzled: ”Purwell is great in every way, except for a bit of vanity... He very much dislikes asking for help or showing his helplessness.

So sometimes one needs to remind him that some things must be communicated to me.

Although List also manages this ship, Purwell only checks what’s happening when he needs to mobilize the Energy Baryte.”

Taking Fran to ride the Floating Stairway, Hill introduced to his grandfather the origins of this Otherworldly Whale.

”It sounds like your life in Toril has been quite colorful.” Fran smiled, ”That’s rather nice, I have always worried about your combat capabilities.

Can’t always rely on brute force, can you? You are in a magic-based profession, delicacy is key.”

Hill felt a bit guilty... It’s not merely about using brute force, is it?

With his bald head, he could pretend to be a Dragon-subduing Arhat.

Fortunately, they had reached the secret room on the bottom floor, and Fran’s attention was fully drawn to the flickering Light Gate behind the door, completely missing the unease on Hill’s face.

”Is this the half-plane gate?” Fran exclaimed, ”It can actually be placed inside a freely moving ship?”

After mastering the rules, a mage can indeed occupy a half-plane, but usually, they attach it to the backside of a world. Of course, more powerful ones usually attach it to the Outer Planes, or those specializing in elements place it in the Elemental Realm, and they can open a door to the half-plane at any time.

Since the Outer Planes are interconnected outside all universes, there’s no need to worry about not being able to open that door in other worlds. As long as there’s mana, you can return to your home in the Outer Planes.

Some more powerful mages, like that old monster Elminster, his half-plane can almost be considered a planet in the Outer Planes. He can even open doors from here to all worlds with his mark.

Traveling the entire universe in a day is no exaggeration.

But carrying a half-plane around... Fran never expected that.

”Purwell is an Otherworldly Whale,” Hill said with a smile, ”His skeleton innately resonates with the void, so it can house a half-plane.

I tried using other materials to create magic ships, but none worked.”

Fran gazed at Hill: ”You can encounter more than one half-plane?”

”Not qualified ones, they’re all too small, only about three times the size of Purwell’s body. They’re okay as storage spaces, but pointless as a half-plane for a mage to live in,” Hill said with great regret, ”But if they could be part of a magic ship, there would be some value, as they could allow ordinary people to inhabit them.

Unfortunately, it’s not possible, I’ve sealed them away to trade for premium Space Crystals with William later on.”

Fran nodded in agreement; such small ones indeed hold little value for mages. Successfully creating a half-plane requires significant resources; having just one is already fortunate for a typical mage.

This grandson of his, capable of many things, but when he talks it’s like he’s flaunting wealth... yet that’s indeed his everyday life.

Who knows if he’s ever been beaten up for it on Toril.

Hill placed his hand on the half-plane gate, feeling it slowly, indeed sensing that the half-plane absorbing void energy had greatly reduced the pressure on Purwell.

”I originally thought it would take two more years to complete the half-plane’s evolution! I didn’t expect to be so lucky, to run into an accelerator!” Hill said, his eyes wide open, ”Purwell, can you feel how much more void energy you can absorb? So I can estimate the time for the half-plane to fully form.”

”By the time we swim out, it should be enough,” Purwell’s voice sounded, ”The absorption speed has already slowed down a lot compared to when we came in.”

Hill calculated silently, then turned to the odd-faced Fran and said: ”That’s about five months, you shouldn’t be leaving anytime soon, right, Grandfather?

Grandfather? Why are you looking at me like that?”

Fran shook his head helplessly: ”I’d almost forgotten what it’s like being dominated by your ’lucky’ phrase... It’s like revisiting an old dream, a sudden craving for sour plums...”

Hill tilted his head, noticing Fran using a Teraxil phrase to express a mix of envy, jealousy, and resentment, and smiled.

Fran was indeed glad to see him, even joking!

”Grandfather... when the time comes, help me set up the half-plane’s array!” Hill took the opportunity to speak up.

”I’ll first learn the systems on Toril,” Fran said ambiguously, unwilling to promise Hill anything prematurely, lest the kid would slack off.

Hill scratched his head, well, that was good enough; if he supplied enough quality materials, he didn’t believe Fran wouldn’t be tempted.

”Let’s go back to the study!” Fran nudged Hill, uninterested in books compared to the half-plane six months later, ”Then you can copy all the books I’ve collected from Aber and other worlds, as knowledge never becomes obsolete; even if unused, they still serve as a self-warning.”

”Grandfather... after such a long time, shouldn’t we talk about the experiences over the past few years?” Hill reluctantly led Fran back onto the Floating Stairway.

”What’s there to say? Encounter matters, resolve matters, isn’t that what roaming is all about?

As long as you’re living well, that’s what matters, right?” Fran glanced at Hill, speaking in a calm tone, ”I don’t see how anything involving the undead tribe could have made for a beautiful story.”

Hill opened his mouth but then closed it silently.

The Midnight affair... let’s not mention it to Grandfather... after all, Fran has never been concerned about deity matters.

Moreover, he’s more like an arcanist adept only in Elemental Magic, where memorizing and optimizing magic models was indeed his past daily life.

There was one thing he had to emphasize: ”Grandfather, legendary spells cannot be used on Toril now... only junior magisters can use them freely, intermediates can barely manage, but overuse could trigger a space storm.”

Fran turned back surprised: ”Wasn’t it just the death of a Goddess of Magic? How come the world is downgrading?”
