Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 901: Chapter 697: A Minor Disagreement Between Lynn and Laila

Hill walked to the tail end of Whale Island and threw out an Alchemy Hall to the seaside. Compared to the city hall that needed to be linked to the crystal mine, the temporal artifact utilizing divine power only required finding a space to prevent the Undead Tribe from causing trouble.

Agleya’s location was a miscalculation on Hill’s part; there was open space front, back, left, and right, where people could frequently be seen performing body art in the square.

The residents of Agleya City often watched from afar; Hill genuinely feared they might start embracing their instincts freely!

There’s no need to mention Luskan; most adventurers here have barbarian bloodlines, which makes them more prone to learning from the Undead Tribe... The key is, the Undead Tribe carries three traits that barbarians don’t, and Hill finds it hard to describe Laila’s future.

The most critical aspect is... Hill finds it unimaginable for Midnight, who grew up in such an environment...

He sighed and decided to plant tall oaks and silver firs all around the square in front of the Alchemy Hall, except for the roads, and added tall shadow crown trees.

Especially the shadow crown trees; these trees are considered unimaginably tall across all of Toril, and most importantly, the dense plume-like leaves at the top form a crown capable of blocking many lines of sight...

After planting the trees, Hill looked back at the Alchemy Hall and couldn’t help but sigh lightly. Why does he have to consider such matters?

This Greek-style temple supported by 108 white marble columns instantly occupied the entire tail space, with columns towering above the sea, appearing particularly majestic.

Hill slowly walked into the empty hall and took out the space box containing the temporal artifact’s embodiment, placing it on the ground to open it.

Once the box opened, the small rhomboid crystal stone floated into the hall’s center, with silver-gray light shining. The box then suddenly sank into the ground, and divine arrays sparkled in the air.

Lucy’s voice appeared next to Hill: ”Sir, may I allow the divine arrays to connect?”

”Yes,” Hill lightly replied.

He turned his head to look outside the hall, where various colors of light began flickering between the two palaces; this was the divine arrays and magic arrays connecting.

When the lights fell, Lucy’s voice rang again: ”Sir, please bring out the puppets for Luskan.”

Hill suppressed his sigh and reluctantly brought out over thirty battle golems and more than twenty life golems, which Lucy quickly took control of.

This was all the result of Hill’s hard work during this period, initially prepared for his soon-to-be-formed half-plane, but unfortunately... another unexpected incident occurred.

Hill thought for a moment and took out four mithril golems to hand over to Lucy: ”Have these golems guard the bridge leading to the island.”

Though they have little use against the Undead Tribe, at least they serve as a reminder: Best not misbehave on the island, as Hill and the temporal artifact are watching you.

The golems are relatively massive and create a grand spectacle when moved, serving as a significant reminder to the Undead Tribe.

After Lucy took the golems, she disappeared and reappeared after a while: ”Sir, between the Alchemy Hall and City Hall, a main road should suffice. Should the sides of this road be built into a garden or shops?”

Hill pondered for a while and replied: ”Build the shops on the shores on either side of the bridge!

I’ll provide you with plant types; discuss with Laila the layout around the garden and Snow Palace Square.

Since this island will predominantly feature white, let’s also have the plants and trees in cool tones.

For trees, I can provide blue-leaf trees, birch trees, silver bark trees, poplar trees, silver firs, cedars, plus oak trees.

You can match the shrubs and flowers yourselves; I basically have them all.

I’ll be staying in Luskan for a while, think about it and come find me.

Of course, if Ms. Laila has other ideas, feel free to suggest them. I have most plants from the Ferun Great Land available.”

Hill was watching the temporal artifact’s embodiment continuously set up huge screens and various facilities targeting the Undead Tribe, not expecting Lucy to return so soon.

Laila is a lady who decides swiftly, directly selecting her favorite from the various drawings Lucy provided.

Her thoughts aligned closely with Hill’s; among the numerous white plants, she mixed in blue-leaf trees, dark green Vanda trees, and Lasp trees, along with pale-colored yew and purple flower trees.

By following their choices, Hill provided the trees, and the life golems on the island quickly began planting gardens and placing various benches according to Lucy’s design.

Hill felt Luskan no longer needed him to manage anything further; other officials and city guards should have been appointed by Laila. Even if the majority of personnel came from Agleya, it made no difference.

Hill simply returned to the terrace on Purwell.

Not only the future officials but also the Undead Tribe had been blocked outside long enough; if not let in, Hill guessed he’d be cursed to bits despite having a good relationship with them.

Therefore, Hill canceled the water wall simultaneously as Purwell rose to the clouds above.

The Undead Tribe rushed madly onto the island from the two bridges... Their goal, of course, was the mission hall, because at that moment, snatching tasks was the highest priority.

Even though Hill hurried, he still heard some criticisms about himself: Fortunately, these people were gentler towards him than towards William, at most just calling him slow... though their language was a bit more colorful.

Lynn and Laila’s discussion lasted for two days before it ended, and when he returned to Purwell, Hill curiously asked the reason.

Lynn gave a wry smile: ”Hill... women... regardless of their strength, they aren’t always rational when pricing things that have merely outward appearances.

I really can’t understand, clearly she’s also a mage, how did Laila equate Ice Iron with Bug Shell? A standard unit of Ice Iron is 2000 gold, while Bug Shell is 10,000! Of course, the price of armor made from these two materials would differ.”

”But Ice Iron is pretty! The same armor made with Ice Iron looks like it’s made of ivory, while Bug Shell... has a weird color, rough texture, unruly and messy, in Silvermoon City, well-crafted Ice Iron armor may actually be similar in value to Bug Shell armor.” An indignant voice transmitted directly over.

They were sitting on the terrace at the time... Laila seemed to have overheard.

Lynn sighed heavily; he had imagined many reasons to clash with Laila, but never thought there’d be such a big gap in values.

Hill sneaked a glance at Lynn and gave him a hint: ”That Sharol should be more informed about prices.”

The heir to the largest merchant group in Silvermoon City, even if she hadn’t planned to take over so early, would still have gleaned quite a bit of information over time. Lynn didn’t really need to argue with Laila over these things himself.

That lady was notorious for her recklessness long ago.

Just bring Sharol out; anyway, Luskan is in need of workers, and earning money herself instead of just relying on Laila... Sharol would probably be quite pleased.

She wouldn’t be short of money, but people... always need a sense of achievement.

This is a win-win situation!

Lynn could also avoid similar troubles; Laila seemed to still hold some reserve in front of her juniors.

Lynn gazed steadily at Hill, having long realized that although Hill was quite awkward in many interpersonal relationships, he was definitely adept at slacking off and shifting troubles.

Not sure how he managed to practice it, Lynn grew increasingly curious about Teraxil.

Hill returned Lynn’s gaze blankly, unsure what he was looking at.

Lynn couldn’t help but laugh: ”After today, probably no one will think you’re easy to deal with anymore.

I’ve always found it strange, most forces in The North know you can take down dragons, yet why there are still those not afraid to provoke you.

Finally, I know now.”

Seeing Hill’s curious look, Lynn leisurely said: ”They all think you only managed it using a Subartifact, something like a giant-strength-granting artifact, which Coron has many.

Back when Toril Elves were favored by him, Coron granted them many such items.

And the fact that you have Coron’s lineage is no secret.”

Hill puzzledly asked: ”Even if it’s using an artifact... it at least proves I have that capability.”

”No matter how strong the power, it’s external; it doesn’t signify strong defense, nor does it ensure you can protect yourself.” Lynn said bluntly, ”For example, why Baldur’s Gate would think it can fearlessly oppose you... if you were a pure Weave Mage, even with a power artifact, you’d be easy to assassinate, mere magic defense, a Demon-Slaying Dagger could work.

The Children of Bhaal... are truly acutely formidable assassins.

Perhaps in their eyes, if that madman Cyric can achieve it, so can the Children of Bhaal, and you’re considered a downgraded version.”

So, those fools think Hill’s useless besides strength?

Hill fell silent... he raised his hand in front of himself and flexed it.

”No need to look... Laila mentioned Deepwater City’s judgment of you, in their minds, you’re agile enough, rather than strong in defense.” Lynn chuckled, ”I just need to know your skin’s thick enough, perfect for keeping it as a hidden card.

In Toril, powerful strength doesn’t necessarily mean powerful defense; single development is more the norm.

One day someone might come up with an absolute Anti-magic Barrier to deal with you, which... would even restrain Magical Curios.

But before that, there shouldn’t be any more trouble. After today’s performance, it’s enough to silence everyone.

Utilizing Origin Power with such ease, even Naish’s Arcanists can hardly achieve it.”

Hill chuckled lightly, completely unconcerned about Lynn’s double entendre of him being thick-skinned. The Anti-magic Barrier thing is of little use against him; that thing’s defense is all about magic, even if it was crafted by AO, Hill would have the guts to knock on it.

However, when it comes to killing, he still prefers using magic, what can he say, he loves cleanliness!
