Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 913: Chapter 709: Edna’s Beautiful Life

Edna grew robustly under the guidance of teachers from her dreams and the companionship of friends in reality.

Today, with Laila’s permission, she even boarded the Black Rose magic ship and followed her friends to the hidden town.

There, she witnessed the Mithril Elves, a rare sight in this world. They were indeed mesmerizing... Especially those seated in the shops; Edna’s first impression of them was one of stunning beauty.

Clearly, these Mithril Elves’ looks weren’t quite on the same level as Lord Hill’s, yet they profoundly moved her.

Is this the overwhelming impact her friends spoke of, when beauties of the same type gather together?

Her friend, the ’Old Age Striking King’, was very fond of the Mithril Elves’ attire... Edna could discern that she also admired the Elves’ enchanting appearances, but she had a steady partner, who though hadn’t come to Toril, made the Striking King cautious not to rustle any feathers over small matters.

Though ’Cunlü’ next to her said that she was merely worried about the emergence of informants... which was unnecessary since if the Striking King dared to act, ’Cunlü’ would be the first to do so.

Sometimes Edna didn’t fully understand why the ’Old Age Striking King’ and her friend enjoyed this love-hate dynamic, yet she was certain their relationship was quite good... At least, the families knew each other, and in Toril, that signaled a very close companionship.

Edna felt a slight regret, though she had a good relationship with the Striking King, it was more like an elder sister looking after her. She was still too young, not yet capable of claiming she could also care for her friends.

Quietly she vowed to learn diligently from her dream teachers; fortunately, she could practice constructing spell models in her dreams.

In the Black Staff Tower, she had witnessed many tragedies caused by failures in memorizing magic models... some magic apprentices even lost their lives as a result. However, this was a journey every mage must endure.

Why, because the Goddess of Magic is dead!

Edna, aware of her own bloodline, was often perplexed... Knowing she should loathe the reckless and capricious decisions that led to her demise and the shattering of the Weave brought about by the current Mystra, yet Edna always sensed she had her own hardships.

Even though it was due to this peculiar Goddess of Magic that her father was exiled from the Silvermoon Alliance, and she and her mother couldn’t return to Silvermoon City, Edna couldn’t bring herself to curse her... Maybe because of her upbringing, firmly remembering that she was a powerful goddess and the belief of most mages in Silvermoon City.

Edna sighed softly; thankfully, she could continue learning in her dreams, failing without consequence, and she felt she was indeed quite talented, as any spell she succeeded in once didn’t go wrong again.

Moreover, even though the Weave couldn’t be accessed now, she actually sensed its presence and could even perceive its flow.

Edna initially wanted to confide in her mother... But when she mentioned it to the ’Old Age Striking King’, she was stopped.

Her friend didn’t consider it a good thing, given her lineage linked to the former Mystra.

If the Chosen of the current Goddess of Magic saw her as a threat, it would be catastrophic, even if the Teraxil Elves could help protect Edna, it was best not to attract trouble unnecessarily.

Edna was deeply grateful to her friend, who indeed taught her so much.

Wearing a pale blue robe, Edna quietly followed behind the ’Old Age Striking King’ and ’Cunlü’ into a Mithril Elves’ accessory shop... That was the reason Laila allowed her visit to the hidden town. The Mithril Elves are nicknamed ’Star Elves,’ and their headbands are imbued with a unique light source, like little stars orbiting the head, spinning endlessly.

Laila was captivated the first time she saw such accessories on the Teraxil Elves, thus Edna’s main objective for visiting was to purchase them. It’s unimaginable how someone could give so much money to a 10-year-old girl for such a reason!

However... Edna was astonished as her mouth opened slightly: her friends extravagantly purchased one of each color headband... Each was a magical curio worth 1000 gold!

Though they only had the enchantment effect of refreshing the mind, helping restore spiritual power thrice daily, it was already a top-tier standard curio in Toril!

Edna touched her small money pouch... a bit bashfully went ahead to count 3 silver, 3 purple, and one pink headband.

Only the pink one belonged to her... It was her reward for running errands, with Laila and her mother each paying half.

She glanced at the ’Old Age Striking King’ and ’Cunlü’ who were already tying the headbands in front of the mirror and sighed silently; her friends not only possessed formidable power, but they were also so wealthy!

Edna counted her savings: before leaving, her father gave her a storage tool, a bracelet divided into ten compartments, with each lock only opening annually with age advancement.

She could only access 1000 gold coins, yet while at the Black Staff Tower, Edna didn’t even dare to use one... Some apprentices much older than her only earned 50 gold a year.

Although Edna was already a level 1 mage... she knew very well that she was still weak in the eyes of these apprentices.

Edna was too young... Even if Laila would punish those apprentices later, it was meaningless, the harm was already done... Most importantly, the true master of the tower had no goodwill towards her.

She was just an appendage of her mother Sharol, and Edna always knew that Kelben tried to match his nephew with Sharol, which greatly angered Laila.

The purpose of Kelben’s actions was obvious; he intended to extend his hand into Silvermoon City. You see, Sharol’s father controlled the economic lifeline of Silvermoon City... And it was precisely because of his meddling that Sharol was also banished from Silvermoon City.

However, that was also why her mother resolutely refused to abandon her. Sharol knew very well that if she abandoned her daughter as well, the child’s future would undoubtedly be bleak. Although she was a pampered lady with not the best temperament, there was still a bit of motherly love in her.

After all, she had money in hand, protection on her body, and was also a high-level mage. Elaströ would never let her daughter end up being bullied, just living in the Outer Plane with the child for a few years... She had already made up her mind to go to Thalanai, as its luxurious style had always attracted the young lady.

Edna was very grateful to her mother, and she couldn’t blame her dad. Her dad just didn’t dare to take her away, not that he didn’t love her. After all, no one knew if the enemies of the former Mystra and the Deity of Mages would intercept him on the way out of the Silvermoon Alliance.

She knew very well... Elaströ was not at fault either, and she didn’t want to resent the current Goddess of Magic, so little Edna’s heart was filled with hatred towards Kelben... It was him who had to go against her family!

”Edna!” The ’Old Age Striking King’ called out to her little friend, ”What are you dazing out for? Come over and let big sister give you a beautiful hairstyle!”

”Don’t use the little girl as an experiment!” ’Cunlü’ teased, ”Don’t think that just because Edna looks good with a hairstyle, you’ll look good too. It depends on your face and temperament...

Not to mention anything else, Edna looks so adorable with such a pure appearance, any hairstyle would look sweet on her.

As for you... do you have any temperament?”

”I just need to be fierce!” The ’Old Age Striking King’ sneered, ”Just like you only need to be flirty.”

The slightly downcast Edna was amused by her friends... Her life now was already very happy, she didn’t need to recall those past dark times.

Edna lightly ran over and handed over her pink ribbon.

She looked at the mirror in front of her, with her long hair tied into twin ponytail braids above her ears, but she only had one ribbon; the others didn’t belong to her!

Just as Edna was about to turn around, she was directly held down.

”Don’t rush, this is our gift to you... Although big sister looks young, she is at least an adult!” The ’Old Age Striking King’ said casually, always busy with her hands.

’Cunlü’ bent over to closely observe the ’Old Age Striking King’s’ movements, and moved her hand along, finally deflatedly saying, ”In the future when my little girl needs dressing up, you have to help me, got it?

I really don’t understand, how your hands can do this so skillfully! Clearly so rough, always playing and fighting...”

The ’Old Age Striking King’ gave her a sidelong glance: ”That’s my martial arts training... Do you believe that when your little girl grows up a bit, Hard Wind would send her to learn too?

For a daughter enthusiast... he would rather his little sweetheart learn from me.”

’Cunlü’ remained silent, unable to deny this... Moreover, Hard Wind’s thinking was actually even more extreme than the ’Old Age Striking King’ would expect.

Their child had just begun to play with other kids, and Hard Wind was already considering that if one day a man like him appeared holding his daughter’s hand, how he would break the guy’s legs.

The ’Old Age Striking King’ smiled at the little girl who kept observing them in the mirror, braiding the base of her ponytails into two adorable heart shapes, and tied two pink ribbons below each heart point.

Edna kept tilting her head in front of the mirror, looking absolutely adorable.

After standing up, the little girl sincerely expressed her gratitude to the two older sisters... She had been playing with the ’Old Age Striking King’ for a long time, and had learned some social customs of the Teraxil Elves: sincerely thank someone when receiving gifts, then reciprocate when there’s a chance next time.

As long as you aren’t thinking of entirely not repaying, you don’t need to worry about the gift’s value; sincerity is what really counts among friends.
