Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 912: Chapter 708: An Interlude in Luskan

The type of elves who live in isolation, although proud and self-proclaimed, don’t even bother to look at those they disdain... but they are also less likely to cause trouble.

Even the Undead Tribe has gotten used to encountering some particularly cold and arrogant NPCs. For them, as long as the face is good enough, even arrogance can be cute.

So Hill wasn’t worried that the newly appeared elf town would have any trouble, at most, the Undead Tribe’s enthusiasm for watching might be high at first.

He nodded to Lynn: ”I can give them shelter without demanding any loyalty from them, but they must promise not to lean toward evil.”

Lynn laughed: ”That shouldn’t be a problem.

Mithril Elves... although they are also part of the Chaos System, they resemble the first generation elves who followed Coron, disliking harm and mainly focusing on defense.

If they weren’t so persistently stubborn about their traditional beliefs, they wouldn’t have migrated entirely to the Outer Plane during the war 2,000 years ago.

I reckon they agreed so readily this time because they lost contact with their fortress in the Outer Plane, cutting off their retreat, and found you under some subtle hints.

Otherwise, these usually aloof elves wouldn’t know so much about you.

However, Mithril Elves have always been firm in their choices, even if you give them a very free space with no requirement to follow any orders, they will still regard you as the alliance leader.

Perhaps in their minds, the Teraxil Elves are already members of their alliance... which is quite nice.

Hill, once the world returns to normal, you don’t need to worry about the Undead Tribe always causing trouble... you can simply send them to the Mithril Elves’ fortress in the Outer Plane!

The enemies over there are numerous and endless, and there’s always a fight to be had, even more frequently than against the Demons.”

Hill let out a gentle sigh: ”So, this is the will of Coron? I thought so! How could these elves suddenly be so wise.”

Lynn laughed helplessly: ”Actually, I think so too... but I wouldn’t speak so plainly to you. In Toril, when faced with unannounced divine messages, many people speak ambiguously, because, what if they’re wrong?

With so many deities within the Elf Deity System, who knows if it’s another one speaking up...”

Hill laughed: ”Forget it! The Elf Deity System probably can’t even figure out what I’m all about!”

Lynn didn’t say anything... he maintained contact with both the Elven Royal Fleet and the Supreme Forest, so he knew many absurd speculations... in fact, many elves would reach out to him, seeking to know which was closer to the truth.

Of course, Lynn knew a lot, but he couldn’t speak!

He had read the Undead Tribe’s pamphlets and heard some of their speculations... but their accounts were exaggerated... The Teraxil Elven God King in their tales seemed quite unpopular. A prevalent rumor among the Undead Tribe’s nonsense is that Hill’s ancestor Earth Bear and the Elven God King, who turned into a mother bear, gave birth to Hill’s grandmother...

However, their pamphlet clearly states that this grandmother was a rather beautiful Half-Elf who could transform into a peregrine falcon and a leopard... more importantly, she had some sort of mother or grandmother who fought fiercely with a Pureblood Elven male who betrayed her.

Lynn thought that although these Teraxil Elves just wore the elven skin, they were almost the same in storytelling as the elves, if not better... mainly because the elves had only experienced a world like Toril; the story likely seemed quite exciting in the Undead Tribe’s own world too.

So, their adapted stories were particularly innovative... the elves would surely find plenty of essence in them.

As a friend, the best he could do was to ensure these terrible stories didn’t come from him... yet Lynn felt he wouldn’t be able to hold it much longer.

Elves have a particular interest in Coron’s private life, and a demigod like Hill, recognized by the Father of Elves, was naturally subject to much probing.

However, if Hill could endure the Undead Tribe... then the elves posed no problem, at least they were more reserved than the Undead Tribe, even if full of curiosity, they wouldn’t directly ask him.

Hill looked at the hundred puppets in the castle, then turned to ask Lynn: ”If you need puppets, just let Marsha find List.

After all, since the Elemental Spirits won’t be back anytime soon, it’s better to ensure there are no blind spots in surveillance within the territory.”

Lynn nodded: ”I’ll let Marsha scan the entire territory’s situation and count how many we need first, and besides, if you ever activate the prison, you’ll have to open a path in the middle of the Green Forest, right? It’s best to use puppets for monitoring there.

Forget about the Elf City Guard... who knows if the person locked up might be their brother, sister, or even uncle or aunt, and what if someone suddenly snaps... well... a brief impulse wouldn’t be good.”

Lynn, although not hating these young elves from noble families who bullied him in the past, would occasionally be unable to resist making a few sarcastic remarks.

After all, most elf children are little troublemakers... The fertility rate of pureblood elves has been declining for a while now, they’re only slightly better than giant dragons.

So even if these little elves are mischievous for a hundred or two hundred years, most elves can smile and say ’they’re still children,’ and willingly tolerate their antics.

Additionally, Lynn and his cousins are there to protect him, at most they’ll hear some harsh words, get pushed around a little, and if it escalates, everyone might start fighting, but these matters are hard to hold onto with an elf’s temperament even after hundreds of years.

By this point, the hatred between them seems more like grievances from childhood: they wouldn’t wish harm upon each other, and might even lend a hand when facing trouble, but never willingly say nice things about each other.

Clearly, Lynn thought this matter would affect the city guard’s lives in Agleya, so he intentionally patched things up in front of Hill, but his words definitely weren’t so pleasing to the ear.

Hill couldn’t help but laugh out loud: ”Haha~ Just handle this sort of trivial matter, need me to clear the path and transplant some trees while I’m at it?”

Lynn expressionlessly replied: ”No need, just leave these matters to the druids. Don’t you have books to transcribe?”

Hill’s laughter abruptly stopped.

He turned his head to look at the towering bookshelf: seven tiers of bookshelves, he had only completed two.

Hill furrowed his brow, bitterly chased Lynn away: ”Why are you still hanging around here? Hurry up and get to work!”

Lynn left with a smile, leaving behind a stack of documents: ”Papers from Luskan, you should at least take a look, you need to write a ’reviewed’ note for Ms. Laila.”

The last thing Hill wants to look at right now is text, but Lynn made a valid point, Ms. Laila just joined his command, he must show some concern. It was different when he wasn’t home, but now he should give some feedback... In any case, this lady delivered a thick work report.

Looking down at the daily trivial matters, Hill’s mind suddenly posed a question: Uh-oh... the fragments of Black Eye’s portrait, it’s at the Black Staff Tower!

What about Midnight’s pre-adult education... What to do?

The young girl Edna, who Hill was concerned about, wasn’t troubled at all... Laila was too busy and directly pulled Sharol to be her deputy.

The still young twins could be kept by the two ladies, but it wasn’t suitable for Edna. Anyway, this girl was very studious, didn’t need parental supervision, Luskan is also safe enough right now, at least the island where Snow Palace is located is certainly safe.

After hanging layers of protection onto Edna, those two adults let her go out to play.

And what Laila gave Edna was a child-sized amulet made out of a corner of the shattered Black Eye oil painting... After receiving a larger painting fragment, Kelben made the rest into pendants and amulets, this is considered one of the larger ones.

The main ability of that oil painting used to be directly connecting to a mirror in the Divine Kingdom of the Goddess of Magic, and if Mystra wished, she could directly answer mages’ questions through the painting.

But now it only retains the ability to enhance Weave spells... Kelben tried many times but couldn’t find any more spirituality in these fragments.

So he just kept the largest one, the rest lost their meaning to him.

When Laila left, of course she wouldn’t choose to leave empty-handed, but instead swept clean Kelben’s private warehouse.

She and her children wouldn’t be competing with Kelben’s favorite nephew or his older sons for inheritance of two cities, only taking some good items from him is already quite generous!

Speaking of which, Laila chose to give the amulet to Edna, merely hoping that the fragment of the oil painting would use its last strength to save her when sensing a descendant of Black Eye’s bloodline is in danger.

But Laila probably never imagined... That she had such a peculiar idea, betting that a Divine Artifact fragment would still have such a strong will, was also influenced by some sort of spiritual suggestion.

The contingency Black Eye left on this oil painting quietly appeared upon sensing Edna.

The previous Mystra certainly knew her bloodline still persisted on the Ferun Great Land... Allowing her portrait to appear in Windsong Tower was due to the fact that it was one of the premier gathering places for mages across the land at that time.

Black Eye was confident her descendants would one day appear before her... Even if not acknowledged, she wanted to give him the best education.

Of course, her beautiful assumptions have long been nothing but assumptions...

Yet Edna gained a teacher who educated her in dreams... Abundant study time at night made the young girl completely uninterested in looking at magic books during the day... With nothing else to do, she was soon led by her friend, with the peculiar name ’Old Age Striking King,’ into the Alchemy Hall opposite Snow Palace, where every day she would watch interesting stories on the giant screen, or observe the never-ending one-on-one duel games in the small square.

Edna truly learned a lot about mages dealing with other professions here... She deeply understood the meaning of using 0-level spells skillfully enough to take down clumsy opponents...
