Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 999: Chapter 794: The Subtle Connection Between the Twins

Hill couldn’t help but look up at the giant screen: the Undead Tribe had already cleaned up the enemies on the battlefield and were now watching the giant spider and masked man’s battle from a distance.

Of course, they wouldn’t be so honest... but the venom sprayed by the giant spider, webs hanging around the cave, and petals flying everywhere made any Undead Tribe that got close instantly meet their demise.

Even those who just wanted to watch at first ended up meeting misfortune because they stood too close... but it was clear that William had sent an alert on their tablets, so most of the Undead Tribe stood a kilometer away, with a thin ice wall erected in front to prevent any venom splashes.

Thus, those Undead Tribe who died beyond the ice wall only received loud mockery from their companions.

For those who have played games for many years, the end of a plot quest turning into a battle between two major bosses where players cannot intervene is just too normal... so while many Undead Tribe happily watched with great interest, there were also many who had no interest and went back to the city to rest.

Celene asked Hill somewhat puzzledly, ”Why are they not concerned about the outcome of this battle? If Shaer’s priestess loses, that Wax Melt Demon could wipe them all out.

That’s a demigod! More people won’t help against her.

Shouldn’t they be a bit worried? Although they won’t die, the city would be destroyed! So many mages worked hard for several days to build it...”

Even knowing that there are many mages in the Undead Tribe, mages still hold high value in a goddess’s heart!

Shaer snapped irritably, ”Are you cursing my priestess?”

”William doesn’t think the Lady of the Lost’s subordinates will lose and has already notified the Undead Tribe that this battle will end in victory,” Hill quickly replied, ”But William probably isn’t aware of Lady Shaer’s plans for the Wax Melt Demon; he might think the opponent will flee, so he arranged for people to go back to the city to defend.”

Hill genuinely felt William should send him a big gift.

Shaer laughed joyfully, ”How could my plans possibly fail!”

”Well, they might not fail, but the outcome is unpredictable,” Celene muttered loudly.

”You want a fight?” Shaer threatened coldly, ”I’d love to charge up to the moon directly... I can temporarily give up the Shadow Realm just to beat you up.”

Celene hesitated for a moment before saying in a determined tone, ”That’s not necessary, is it? Why make it so troublesome.”

Shaer snorted coldly, but since Celene temporarily backed down, she didn’t say more.

In fact, neither Celene nor Shaer liked fighting themselves, especially Shaer, who always preferred striking from the shadows, even seldom dealing with Silvermoon Church’s high priest herself, but if it’s Celene as the opponent, she could instantly transform from a homebody to a berserker.

It’s probably truly accumulated resentment of tens of thousands of years never vented.

Fortunately, the battle on the giant screen became fierce again... amidst the Undead Tribe’s exclamations, the black giant spider turned into a melting candle with tentacles.

Compared to the spider form, the Wax Melt Demon’s eight tentacles seemed to have higher defense against those petals blades formed by shadows... she even had time to attack Shaer’s priestess, but unfortunately, it was completely useless.

She quickly realized that dark spells were basically ineffective against the Goddess of the Night’s Chosen... Rose’s original abilities all came from Coron, although the Father of Elves couldn’t bear to kill her directly, he stripped her of all her power and threw her into the Abyss, even turning her into a spider... If Rose hadn’t insisted on seducing people, she might have avoided the devastation from those Demon Lords.

Celene’s words carried hidden disdain because Rose’s means of climbing from Great Demon to Demon Lord wasn’t using the powerful body that Coron, out of a last bit of reluctance, gave her, but choosing to first turn back into a beautiful Zholar and then take some leftovers from those Demon Lords.

Sometimes, one could hardly blame those daughters of Rose for finally abandoning the attempt to retrieve their mother... in the Elven world, promiscuity isn’t something condemned, but degrading oneself and using one’s body as capital for climbing up is genuinely shameful to them.

However, Rose herself didn’t see any problem; she has always been someone who dares to do anything to achieve her goals, even as a deity she would occasionally curry favor with certain powerful Demon Lords... yet she was equally rejected by all goddesses... many goddesses’ social circles aren’t just good and neutral factions, otherwise Valkin would not have had connections with Six Fingers back then.

Thus, Rose appears strong, but she actually doesn’t have much real ability, especially in terms of Divine Arts; her divinities are firmly suppressed by Shaer.

Most importantly, most of the shadow and dark spells of the Roses’ faith were learned from the Shadow Weave, how could they possibly deal with the original master.

After several rounds of attacks still had no significant effect, the Wax Melt Demon finally changed forms again: a mass of constantly churning greasy green smoke.

The smoke quickly began to spread outward. The Priestess of Shaer’s face changed as she suddenly leapt up, tossing off the purple robe that had touched the smoke, leaving only her black tight-fitting garment, and then she disappeared into the darkness... always composed, she unexpectedly bolted.

Although she was merely hiding in the shadows, this was the first time she showed signs of retreat, leaving only the A Thousand Petals in One Night to fight alone amidst the sky.

In less than a minute, the Undead Tribe members, who were still discussing why Shaer’s Priestess abruptly fled, understood the reason: nearly everyone standing in the front was bending over vomiting against the Ice Wall... The smoke form of the Wax Melt Demon inherently carried a High-level Stinking Cloud Spell.

The Ice Wall could not block the air reeking with foul odor... The Undead Tribe members painfully crawled backward on the ground.

However, the companions behind them blocked their retreat... Before smelling that damned scent themselves, most of the Undead Tribe would only laugh delightedly at their unlucky comrades.

Especially since the Stinking Cloud Spell’s range was limited... Only the Undead Tribe within approximately the first thousand meters were unlucky, so those at the back wouldn’t easily retreat... Watching their own people’s misery was more entertaining than observing the BOSS fight!

If there weren’t two live broadcast cameras, Hill suspected they wouldn’t have continued recording this BOSS battle, though the appearance of the Undead Tribe made him feel much more at ease compared to his previously slightly oppressive mood.

Hill looked at the huge screen and finally smiled lightly. Every world had its own rules, as long as he maintained a detached heart... Fortunately, with the Undead Tribe around, Hill could always hold on to his unchanged original intentions.

Sometimes he could really understand why Tyr would be bound to Toril. Truly kind-hearted and compassionate people would find it hard not to offer assistance in Toril... This world constantly faced calamities that could annihilate nations and cities.

However, the intense efforts of the deities might be less effective than the occasional encounter of some heroic team... That Tyr could still hold on to his kindness and passion amazed Hill.

Watching the huge screen, where the Wax Melt Demon seemed to think its attack was effective and was eagerly bluffing, Celene couldn’t help saying, ”Your priestess has quite some skill! She really knows how to create opportunities for herself!”

The thousand shadow petals danced furiously in the green smoke, but even if the smoke scattered, it would quickly regain its form.

The Wax Melt Demon seemed intent on using the smoke column mode to deplete the artifact’s energy, performing vigorously, but the truly important aspect of A Thousand Petals in One Night is the ”One Night” part rather than the ”Thousand Petals”... Until now, the Wax Melt Demon had only touched those sky-flooding petals.

”This is my Chosen, my ’Eye of the Flame,’ Abel Herderstal,” Shaer said blandly.

Celene fell silent. To earn the recognition of the treacherous and cunning Shaer, and even be elevated to a Chosen priestess, must mean killing ruthlessly and wreaking havoc is an understatement for her.

Hill blinked. That name sounded familiar... Who was it again?

Shaer’s largest temple, the Ancient Night Temple, is located in Karin Harbor, the oldest and most proud site of Shaer worship. The ”Elder” Iltmara rules there, famously wild and decadent, notorious for her quirky ideas about revelry and murder.

In Hill’s memory, there was clear evidence that Iltmara was the hidden manipulator behind at least six coups on the Ferun Great Land.

Hill had always assumed Iltmara was Shaer’s favorite follower.

However, Abel Herderstal rose only 40 years ago as the leader of the Dark Embrace Temple, dissatisfied with the ways of the Ancient Night Temple, believing they should overtly participate in local political activities, and when intimidation and fulfilling dark desires failed, they resorted directly to assassination.

The coup model had become outdated, and their methods were even more ruthless, leaving countless souls in their wake.

It seems they were the ones who retrieved A Thousand Petals in One Night for Shaer and sacrificed the capital of a nation.

Hill pondered repeatedly in his mind. Shaer seemed to have changed significantly... She would have never supported such a high-profile approach before, and she wouldn’t even allow her priestesses to seek personal gain, yet now she had elevated Herderstal to a Chosen instead of Iltmara, who had followed her for so long.

It’s definitely not due to A Thousand Petals in One Night; Iltmara has at least three Shadow Artifacts.

If the Ancient Night Temple’s leader wasn’t the problem, it means Shaer’s stance has shifted... Is that why there are signs of easing hatred between Celene and Shaer?

Perhaps losing the Shadow Weave as Celene mentioned has distanced her slightly from the Primordial Darkness?

Even though she remains an extremely twisted and abnormal entity, embodying unspeakable evil and infinite small hatreds and jealousy, she seems to be reconsidering some aspects of herself... Hence, Celene would suddenly ask if she still wanted to destroy the world?

Indeed, these twins can sense each other’s slightest changes!
