Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 931: Chapter 727: The Emergence of Another Enemy Force

Hill looked at the black mass of mages flying out in the sky and was somewhat surprised.

The mages of the Undead Tribe rarely float in the sky to fight… How to say it, the Flight Art is a spell that requires attention to mana consumption and needs to be replenished in time within its duration… Of course, there are quite a few in the Undead Tribe who can remember these things during battle, but more actually cannot.

It’s not that they haven’t initiated flying mage battles… but what remains are just bursts of laughter from onlookers.

The Undead Tribe is also very aware of this, and basically won’t persist in such unnecessary exhausting activities… For them, the Flight Art is more commonly used in daily entertainment.

So, for the mages to have all taken on the combat posture of flying, it must be a requirement from the Temporal Artifact or William’s side.

William definitely wants to trap all the necromancers who entered underground, keeping them there!

After all, Mirabar must have already entered the battle rhythm of the Undead Tribe at this moment… Even Celine Delagrost has been seriously injured, this must be considered a lifesaving grace.

As expected, the Undead Tribe’s mages flew very fast, directly rushing to the mountains and started releasing spells with no limit.

On the ground, rows of mages also began to emerge. They activated their magic shields and, under the friendly fire from above, quickly searched out several undead: skeletons, ghouls, bone claws, soulbinds, and liches.

Hill quietly stared at the lich.

This is not a creature that ordinary necromancers can control, Bane’s followers are not that strong.

Only Sel, that “chaotic nation filled with baldies, undead, and mages”.

Hill softly asked List, “Do I seem to be missing intelligence from Sel’s side?”

That follower of Bane: Lich Sazzastan, has he already become the head of the Necromancy in Sel’s Red-robed Mage Guild?

The most important thing is, has he taken advantage of the chaotic situation during this Magicplague to seize power and become Sel’s regent and highest ruler?

His appearance implies too many disasters… Hill looked at the sky, and even though history still seems like the same history, the seemingly different process may not necessarily lead to that terrible conclusion!

At least the current Mystra, Hill doesn’t think she would just cry and accomplish nothing besides being saved by others and, before returning to her Divine Kingdom, the only contribution would be giving birth to several children with different people… returning to her Divine Kingdom with a belly full of resentment towards all the deities… and then getting attacked again causing a second Magicplague, ultimately abandoning all emotions and choosing to be resurrected in her eldest daughter.

From then on, becoming a complete tool of the Weave… For AO and other deities, this is a good thing, but Midnight is considered completely gone, leaving only an empty Mystra.

But… the Midnight trained in the entire Undead Tribe, known for her bravado, absolutely wouldn’t fall into such passive love again.

Midnight later managed to treat her daughter as her own vessel, because these children weren’t the products of her love but the result of deception.

Even if Midnight regains her memory and encounters danger again, her prayers wouldn’t necessarily be for the rescue of her chosen… She would definitely see through the essence of the Undead Tribe by then, and wouldn’t truly treat them as elves.

Seeking the help of the Undead Tribe then wouldn’t mean she would bow to the Elf Deity System… even if the relationship could be repaired, as one of the most powerful deities, Mystra Midnight would try to avoid involving elves when finding someone to do things, she still has her own pride.

Actually, Midnight’s greatest sorrow is not realizing that for mages, magic is always the first to be respected, while religion is far behind in second place.

The previous Mystra was well aware of this, and she finally chose Elaströ as her spokeswoman because this lady was calm enough and broad-minded.

But Elaströ would definitely not grovel to the goddess…

Though she had character flaws, she was very clear-headed and treated the Chosen as cooperative partners… However, Midnight didn’t quite understand this, otherwise she wouldn’t have chosen Kelben, who seemed willing to kneel but had ambitions beyond his capabilities, among so many of the Magic Electors.

Much of Midnight’s scheming was actually built on the ethereal, but what she encountered later was a bit excessive.

In this way, at least it can settle another deity who originally had little connection with the world… that Grim Reaper Kelemvor.

Although his relationship with Midnight broke down, it doesn’t mean he doesn’t care about that wholeheartedly devoted Midnight Mage… Otherwise, Kelemvor wouldn’t still often go mad in the Bottomless Abyss.

Watching helplessly as the goddess who initially belonged to him ended up like that… Later, that undead mage of Sel could achieve many incredible things, it’s obvious that the Main God of Death turned a blind eye.

That’s definitely not something just Bane can achieve.

Hill turned his gaze to the Black Rose’s defensive zone, Edna seemed to have just gotten up, stretching lazily as she walked out from the changing defense zone of the Undead Tribe, the ‘Old Age Striking King’ walked ahead of her, turned to say something to her, gesturing with his hands as if teaching her how to use the tactical gloves she wore.

Hill was momentarily stunned, couldn’t help rubbing his eyes, and looked again carefully.

He definitely did not see it wrong.

The black half-finger gloves Edna wore were made from Susalleo… This material is generally used to make armor, capable of hardening at stress points to act as a buffer.

But if used to make punching gloves… it seems quite suitable: the one hit would certainly feel pain, yet usually, they remain soft gloves.

Hill really learned for the first time that this material is so suitable for striking…

Isn’t it obvious whose idea it was?

Hill observed Edna and the ‘Old Age Striking King’s attire once again… they seem to have made some very good elf friends!

The gray and white exquisite robe Edna wore was clearly Thistle Thick Cloth Armor, likely worn for the first time because the decisive battle had begun… A few days ago, when Hill saw her, she was still wearing clothes similar in style to those of the Undead Tribe’s lolita mages.

Thistle is a material that elf mages have favored for thousands of years for their robes, being half the weight of thick cloth armor and extremely soft to the touch… Even among elves, only some long-standing families still know how to make this material.

At least the Moon Elves certainly do not; although the elves on Mulan’s side have considerable combat strength, many lifestyle heritages have actually been lost.

Hill pondered and turned his gaze to those Mithril Elves in the Hidden Forest, only they might remember those past things, after all, before the destruction of the Elf Empire, they had left Toril… But, did Edna actually go there?

Materials like Susalleo, which can only be manufactured by top elf craftsmen, are very rare, but at least obtainable on the outside world.

Thistle is different; for elves, it is an extremely troublesome material to manufacture, with each production cycle taking two to three years, and they would never sell such material for money.

Anyone who obtains it externally must have received the elves’ most genuine friendship.

So… what exactly happened? Does Laila know?

Hill felt a bit bewildered.

“The North doesn’t pay much attention to Sel over there.” List was still answering his previous question, but Hill’s attention had already flown… It’s known that Midnight had always disliked elves, he listened absent-mindedly to List’s words, “I’ll go find Ms. Laila, she should be able to get some information.”

Hill nodded, although the harpist might not know news about Sel, another person surely knows something, that Archmage Elminster staying in Shadow Valley.

With his broad social connections, he surely has friends knowledgeable about the news from Sel.

Whether Elminster is willing to tell Laila about the news from that side, else she would still get it: who lets Elminster choose to marry the youngest Elleslan Silverhand of the Northern Seven Sisters, and be an old bull eating young grass?

That lady has another name, “Storm Queen” Xinbu, and her resentment with the Red Robe Mages has never lessened, she has at least killed a dozen Ring Magicians of the Tattoo Faction.

Hill turned to List: “The news from Sel is not urgent for now… I’m more curious about how Edna got involved with the elves from the Hidden Forest? She even has a Thistle Robe!

Laila doesn’t even have one, does she?”

He actually doesn’t… Thistle is a technique that was invented in the recent few thousand years, and the method to make this material is not within Hill’s inherited memory, but he does know how to make the other three elf armor materials: Susalleo, Elven Darkleaf, and Elven Clustering Leaf.

He can even make Glass Steel, which the Gold Elves are best at; his Crystal Walls were transformed using the method for making Glass Steel.

List seemed a bit bewildered too, glanced at Edna who was already standing on the wall with a new magic wand throwing little fireballs: “I’ll go inquire right away.”

List vanished somewhat dazedly, seemingly quite shaken inside too.

Look at what Kelben did to the elves under Midnight’s protection in the past!

Actually, from the Black Staff’s blatant actions, it can be seen, that the current Mystra holds malice towards the elves.

During her adventures back then, it seemed she had a very poor impression of elves… During that time, elves still held significant power on the continent… Nearly every slightly larger forest was occupied by elves.

And for adventurers like Midnight and her group running across the continent back then, being shot at by elves with bows and arrows while passing through forests was certainly not uncommon.

However, now Edna… is equipped with a complete elf outfit.

Hill pondered with his head down: Could future Midnight still say, today’s elves long lost their ancestors’ glory, and are merely maggots of Toril… contributing nothing to the world, how dare they still despise humans?
