Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 937: Chapter 733: The Establishment of the Eternal Contract

Elvia Tulais pondered for a few seconds, the elongated dragon face displaying seriousness: “I don’t know if you truly understand my identity, but I’ll say it again: I am the White Dragon Queen Elvia Tulais, the ruler of the Northern Ice Field.

My story has always been passed around among the Northern Mages; they all say I exhausted the original owner to death and inherited all his wealth… this is not a mere rumor, but it’s too foolish.

You yourself are a mage, you should understand in your heart, a white dragon with innate lack of intelligence trying to match wits with a mage is simply courting death.”

Her narrow, snake-like eyes flickered with a cold light: “Those people are just jealous that I inherited all of Melsrode’s wealth.

But I was indeed a student taught by Melsrode… Even if his attempt to make me part of the Neutral Faction failed, I always maintained a student’s diligence, seriousness, and effort while learning from him.

That’s why Melsrode treated me so well and left everything to me.

Otherwise, why would his Tower Spirit continue to serve me? That’s an Archmage’s Magic Tower!

Having had such a satisfying master, I naturally wouldn’t choose the next one lightly.

I have to say… I’ve been observing you for a long time.

For me, the basic criterion in choosing a master is at least having a temper that agrees with mine, and you really meet all my preferences in all aspects, with so many similarities to Melsrode!

Much better than Laila.

Laila’s temper is too irritable… This is why most people know we are acquainted, but few dare to ascertain whether our friendship is real, because we have truly fought, and it was a life-and-death battle.

If it were Laila, no matter how well your Teraxil friend treats her, she wouldn’t tolerate other Teraxil Elves’ nonsense.

The fight would’ve already started.

She never considers her friend’s friend to be her friend, with her, Laila.

Though not wrong, it’s too heartless!”

Edna silently watched this complaining giant dragon, her emotions a mix of feelings: she certainly knew who this white dragon was… but she was indeed surprised at how this lady had the audacity to complain about Laila having no warmth.

“The most important thing is, you have Azuth’s Encyclopedia of Magics, so I don’t need to travel the world learning the latest spell theories.”

Elvia Tulais gently reassured the suddenly panicked Edna: “Actually, not only do I know, Laila knows too, otherwise why would she let you move freely without arranging formal magic studies for you?

But Kelben definitely doesn’t know… you’re lucky, Laila and Kelben have fallen out, there’s no way they’ll share information.

Besides, considering Elaströ’s sake, Laila wouldn’t take away your future.

As for herself…”

The white dragon said indifferently: “Azuth’s sect has always liked spreading magic news… as long as you have money, you can ask an acquaintance who is a Preaching Mage to help transcribe a copy.

What you have is the latest knowledge, but that doesn’t mean it’s the deepest knowledge.

Only a white dragon like me, with no backing and unwilling to spend money, would find you very valuable…”

Edna calmed down. Since arriving in Luskan, she hadn’t been so cautious, after all, with the Sanda King Sister around her.

Laila couldn’t have known before then.

She understood very well, if Laila or her mother found out before arriving in Luskan, while her life wouldn’t be in danger, the book certainly wouldn’t be secure.

Her mother didn’t love her less than herself… if it was possible to advance further on the path of magic, she wouldn’t let the encyclopedia, right within her reach, escape, even if it originally belonged to her daughter.

The white dragon was right, this book could indeed be copied through Azuth’s sect mages, but it requires both money and favors… If one could get it without paying, the people of Toril would never refrain.

But after reaching Luskan, even if Laila and her mother found out, there wouldn’t be any commotion… the relationship with the Teraxil Elves and Edna was too strong, making the cost unworthy of action.

They weren’t so malicious, they wouldn’t harm Edna over something that could be solved with money.

In a flash, Edna got a clear grasp on all this, then she was able to carefully ponder the true intent behind Elvia Tulais’ words, quickly grasping the key points: “What am I most similar to in Melsrode?

I remember your master’s story generally portrays him as extraordinarily capable, but unfortunately dying too young.

What I resemble most with him is being just as short-lived, right?

My temper isn’t as good as you claim.”

Edna knew very well that after leaving Silvermoon City, she was a girl filled with anger and hatred. If she hadn’t met the Sanda King Sister, she would’ve plunged headlong into the whirlpool of vengeance.

Her somewhat shallow disposition had long since been apparent to others; otherwise, Kelben’s students wouldn’t have been so wary of her.

But Edna could now understand her past self… Just like Sanda King Sister said, if they truly were so harsh to a little girl who suffered misfortune at the age of ten, losing her home and family, then the ones who were wrong were them.

Elvia Tulais was at a loss; she didn’t know how to explain… If Edna hadn’t noticed, the White Dragon could naturally dodge the topic with sweet talk, but since the girl had realized… she could no longer lie.

Though the White Dragon Queen had always tried to hide her thoughts, she indeed wanted to get along well with Edna.

Otherwise, once they form a contract, Edna’s mental sea would be connected to hers… By then, the girl could directly perceive the White Dragon’s thoughts!

Elvia Tulais had extensive experience getting along with mages, and naturally wouldn’t be so foolish… But now, what should she do?

Edna looked at the giant dragon in front of her and confirmed her judgment.

But she broke into a reassuring smile: “So that’s how it is, then I agree to form a master-servant contract with you!”

The White Dragon Queen lowered her wings, which had been raised for a long time, her eyes widening to the point of almost popping out: “Why?”

“I’m only worried about the unknown,” Edna said with a smile. “But now that I know why you chose me, I’m at ease. At the very least, forming a contract with you won’t ruin me or even destroy my friends!”

Elvia Tulais extended her neck in confusion, closely observing the girl in front of her. She felt that Edna seemed to think a bit differently from her.

“For me, before I can stand on my own, having such a powerful White Dragon by my side is certainly a good thing,” Edna said gently with a smile. “As for how long I can actually live, it’s not up to your judgment, but rather my own abilities.

Aren’t you gambling as well?

What if I can surpass the limits of life and become a Legendary Great Mage?

Or even… What if I have the qualifications to ascend to a Divine Position?

There’s at least a few hundred years for me to consider these matters… At least for now, I don’t feel my future is hopeless.”

Elvia Tulais grinned, trying hard to give the girl a smile: “Ah! I suddenly feel that even if I lose the gamble, I won’t regret it.”

A glow floated from the White Dragon’s forehead and rushed directly to Edna’s brow: “Dear Miss Edna, this is a master-servant contract I initiated: unless one of us dies, it will never dissolve.

Are you willing to accept it?”

Edna did not frown, seriously reading through the content of the contract, and only then smiled, incorporating it into her own mental sea.

Then she was overwhelmed by the lengthy and verbose memories of this queen, causing her knees to buckle.

“Edna!” ‘Old Age Striking King’ ran over, looking at the girl supported by Elvia Tulais’ wing and asked with concern, “What happened?”

“Elvia Tulais’… memories are too long… I need some time.” Edna said with a bitter smile, “First, I have to exclude those memories of robbing sea vessels… I think once those are removed, it’ll definitely be fine… It accounts for at least one-third of her memories.

Isn’t she supposedly most interested in spells? Yet the spell-related memories don’t even make up half of what’s left!

It’s all extortion and robbery! My heavens! I’ve even learned a hundred ways to stop ships from moving from these!”

Elvia Tulais trod lightly with her paw before she said slowly: “What else could I do? Apart from pirates, there are no other specialties in the North!”

“But why do you have so many dragon enemies?” Edna couldn’t help but ask, “And all of them are Chromatic Dragons and Gem Dragons; I thought your enemies would be Metal Dragons?”

“Metal Dragons care about face, and they won’t overtly support pirates,” Elvia Tulais said disdainfully, “The Chromatic Dragons are understandable, but you saw that Topaz Dragon in the south, right? It’s a wretch!

Been fighting me for a thousand years! Humph! All for a bunch of Half-Dragon pirates that I wiped out.

Gem Dragons, because they eat gems, are the poorest… many end up being pirates!”

Hill listened to their conversation, recalling that Topaz Dragon Lich who had a deep-seated grudge against Elvia Tulais… So it’s just dogs biting dogs…

Why is all the information he received wrong regarding the White Dragon Queen?

Indeed, those who dive headfirst into the pit that is the Dragon Worship Church aren’t necessarily good people themselves…

Hill silently flipped through his encyclopedia of Northern Giant Dragons, marking all entries related to the Topaz Dragon with question marks. The information provided by the Harpist probably came from the Crystal Dragons… Only they would cover up for the Topaz Dragons.

Metal Dragons, though, wouldn’t tell such blatant lies.

The river surface trembled, and suddenly there was a booming sound from the East: the Undead Tribe that had campaigned to Mirabar was riding back… presumably rushing to the Temporal Artifact to collect military exploits.

Hill spread out his limbs, lying flat on the long sofa, feeling that today’s enjoyment was enough for him to savor for hundreds of years.
