Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 916: Chapter 712: A Little Incident in Luskan

Hill cheerfully led a group of little fairies and some Elven City Guards who wanted to go to Luskan to join the battle onto the Pulvey Magic Ship.

For these young and strong elves, they hadn’t participated in a formal war for a long time.

Everything about Agleya was good, except there were too few opportunities for battle. They still wanted to try hard and seek a chance to advance to Legendary.

The Elf Crusaders, having finally recovered from the pain of their innocent comrades dying, perked up again. They sat on the terrace at the back of the Purvey, chatting and laughing, appreciating the vast frozen sea below.

Once out of Agleya’s domain, the sea area beyond Neverwinter City had completely frozen into a solid Ice Sea.

Looking at these lively elves, Hill sat on a sofa in midair, pondering secretly: He should talk to the Temporal Artifact. When arranging Luskan’s defense line, they shouldn’t hand over all the battle terrain to the Undead Tribe.

At the very least, they should leave some space for Toril’s local forces to perform. The Undead Tribe is not a force that can always be relied upon.

After all, no game can remain popular forever. People’s preferences change... Who knows when mecha-type games might become mainstream again, as most players always pursue the most popular trends.

Unless these games are relevant to their reality... This terrifying idea of games infringing on reality, Hill only hopes it never happens.

He knows very well that in a tech society, there are more people like him... Although they always talk about expecting more excitement in life, they definitely don’t want it to really happen around them.

Just adapting to changes in ideology has already exhausted all of Hill’s willpower. He merely concealed the pain of having to change through silence.

But some concepts rooted deep in his bones remained, eventually forming this contradictory Great Mage Hill Polanio.

These adorable undead may only exist in his life for a few years, at most a few decades, but Hill is already very satisfied... They brought a great influence to Hill, allowing more of the past him to be retained, rather than becoming unrecognizable when his worldview was impacted.

Hill looked at the white city appearing below. The tall, cold trees were also covered with thick snow, and some undead were flying up and down cleaning, probably worried about branches breaking.

The roofs on both sides also seemed to have been cleared, but they were covered with ice and snow again... The buildings in Luskan never exceed two stories, and they all have sloping roofs with a solid foundation, so no matter how heavy the snow, it only needs to be cleared once in the morning and once in the evening.

Pulvey landed on top of the Snow Palace, and the elves swiftly slid down.

Laila, along with Sharol and other officials, was already waiting on the square in front of the palace.

Hill slowly descended, while Vila led the Little Flower Fairies around him in a dance. The watching undead made a huge clamor.

Laila showed no reaction, forming a stark contrast with some officials behind her who wore expressions of dissatisfaction on their faces.

Hill deeply felt that even if he had more territory in the future, as long as there was still a connection with the undead, it would be best to have either an unerring, emotionless Tower Spirit in charge, or a Chaotic Faction that is not surprised by strange things and can play along.

Otherwise, those stubborn and conservative government officials of Toril might be angered to death by the undead... Hill wanted to find people to do the work, not turn all the government officials into consumables!

Luskan here can still maintain the balance between both sides, thanks not only to the proper control by the Temporal Artifact but also to Laila, who, although has a neutral stance with a bit of chaotic inclination, has been in contact with the Orderly Camp for so long that she handles both sides well.

And Lynn of Agleya, who is a chaotic faction with a bit of an orderly inclination, can also adapt to the style of these undead and handle the small troubles they bring without being alarmed.

It truly was his good fortune to have chosen the most suitable mayor without realizing it... Hill cheered himself up... Remember to find people according to these two models in the future.

”Laila.” Hill said with a gentle smile, ”You’ve really worked hard during this period.”

”It is my honor, my lord.” The beautiful silver-haired lady smiled, swaying her waist lightly as she approached Hill, enchanting and charming.

Hill, with an unchanged expression, walked over, the corner of his black robe lightly brushing over the snow, giving Lady Silverhand no chance to link her arm through his: ”Just call me Hill like Lynn does.

This year, it’s too cold, half-orcs will definitely come down the mountains trying to raid the south, so you’ll be even busier in the coming months. I came this time to see if the defensive walls are built properly and if there are any gaps.”

Laila followed behind him nonchalantly: ”Luskan will have no issues, the Teraxil Elves are truly capable, this is the strongest defensive wall I’ve seen in Toril, even Hell Gate Fortress doesn’t compare.”

”That’s good.” Hill nodded slightly at the various levels of officials lining the roadsides who saluted him: ”As a reward for your loyal service during this time, I’ll personally cover an extra month of your salary from my private treasury.

Once the half-orc battle is over, I’ll offer even more generous rewards.”

Laila spoke from behind, ”The city warehouse of Luskan is enough to provide these rewards. I have also prepared a reward for them.”

Hill turned to look at her, nodding appreciatively, ”This is good; those who have worked hard should indeed receive more rewards.

However, how much Luskan is willing to give is up to your city hall; I won’t interfere with the normal operations of the municipal government.

But what I give from my private treasury is the reward from me as the lord, to those who have worked hard for me.”

Laila gently bowed her head and then smiled, ”Of course, thank you for your generosity, my Lord.”

Hill turned and walked straight to the main hall of the Snow Palace, sitting down on the lord’s throne above the great hall, ”These are the Elven City Guards of Agleya; they are unwilling to stay in the rear and enjoy the protection of others, so they plan to join the battle.

But there is no need to worry on this front. I recall that I arranged for a divine artifact working for the Teraxil Elves to design the defensive areas, so your various defensive measures should already be in place by now.”

”Respected Lord,” a burly man in armor stepped forward, ”There is something we really don’t understand. It is normal for the Teraxil Elves to become the main force in defense, and even having the temple guards of Tyr, Heim, and Tampas occupy the front lines of defense, we have nothing to say about that.

But how is it that those Mulan Elves can stand ahead of our Luskan Defense Forces after they arrived?

Even if you bring in the Agleya City Guards, there would probably be no place to fit them in!”

Hill gently raised his right hand, pressing down, ”When the divine artifact designed the defenses, it only considered abilities, not relationships... It belongs to a powerful deity over at Teraxil, and even Coron can’t directly command it to do anything without negotiation.

The fact that you are not placed in the front lines only proves that your strength is insufficient.

If you don’t agree, you can try competing with the Mulan Elves... just a sparring match. These are my words; I think the Mulan Elves would give me this face.

However, if you’re afraid of embarrassment, you might want to first try yourselves against the Agleya City Guards.

They were also trained as warriors on Eternity Island back then... but they couldn’t defeat their elder siblings, otherwise, they wouldn’t have traveled overseas to the continent to seek their future.”

Hill glanced at the still eager man and said coldly, ”For me, anyone from Luskan is an outsider.

If you actually overthrow the Agleya City Guards, then you can come talk to me about something else!

Now, step down!”

Hill had already understood why Laila seemed to be expressing dissatisfaction towards him. He had allowed the elves to settle in Luskan without consulting her, merely having Lynn inform her.

This lady likely thought that the elves were Hill’s kin and possibly came to vie for power with her.

Laila was willing to become the mayor of Luskan because Hill, as the lord, was very powerful and could earn her recognition; bowing to such a Hill wasn’t considered a humiliation.

But if she had to be subordinate to those elves, as a Mistrala Elector and one of the famous Northern Seven Sisters, Laila couldn’t accept it.

Hill could understand her pride but wouldn’t show any remorse; he had to make Laila establish a boundary, affirming that the ownership of Luskan would always be Hill’s.

His will was the only will in Luskan.

Hill had no interest in playing political power games with these grasping Toril people, but if he showed even a hint of weakness, those variously expressed officials over there would likely become Laila’s loyal followers.

This was human nature; even with quite perfect monitoring methods, there are still things that Tower Spirit might not comprehend.

But after displaying firmness, it was possible to somewhat placate this lady who was already very displeased, as she remained calm after being thus reprimanded.

”Laila, the elves only need to participate in the war against the half-orcs; this is Prince Ramriel’s request to me, and I gave them this opportunity,” Hill said slowly, ”They need a sense of involvement in continental affairs. So just hand them over to the Teraxil divine artifact on the opposite side; you don’t need to worry about anything else.”

The silver-haired lady quickly grasped the implication in Hill’s words and immediately smiled, ”In that case, that’s good. Many people were a bit worried that if the elves also participated in Luskan’s official competition, those with relatively lesser abilities would really be in a bind.”

At this time, Laila finally thought about the feelings of the Agleya City Guards who stood last, watching with peculiar expressions.
