Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 881: Chapter 558: Untitled

The movie ’Female Assassin’ has always been on Zhou Yun’s radar, waiting for the day it starts filming.

She is filled with anticipation about collaborating with Wen Bing once again.

Especially since it’s set in such a surreal world of action.

Wen Bing said, ”In fact, I’ve come across another script that I really like.”

”What script?”

Wen Bing said, ”It’s a story with a bit of a fantasy element. If I were to categorize it, it’s more like ancient mythological tales.”

”Is it a script from New Shield?”

”No, it’s from another film company that passed it on to me, hoping I’d direct it,” Wen Bing said.

Zhou Yun thought for a moment and said, ”If I remember correctly, you’ve signed a multi-year contract with New Shield, right?”

”Yes, according to the contract, I should give priority to filming for New Shield, so I can’t direct that project,” Wen Bing sighed. ”I just feel the script suits you very well.”

”Hmm?” Zhou Yun asked, ”Suits me?”

”Yes, I told the person in charge of that company the same thing,” Wen Bing said. ”If they pass the script to you, you should take a serious look at it.”

”But for movies in this mythological genre, whether the director knows how to handle them or not makes a huge difference,” Zhou Yun said. ”Sigh, the movies that have been released lately have been terribly criticized by audiences. I watched them myself, and they either tell incoherent stories, have shoddy production, or just aim for visual beauty with no soul. Honestly, there are too few good directors these days.”

Wen Bing said, ”Honestly, I’d love to direct this movie, but I’m bound by the contract. However, I can participate in another way; I could help as a producer if you need me. You know, when I saw that script, I thought, China’s mythological culture is so rich, and it would be attractive for me to express the mythical world in my heart through a story.”

”Do you have any ideas?” Zhou Yun asked. ”Which director do you think is suitable?”

Wen Bing said, ”The person I’m about to mention might surprise you.”

”Hmm?” Zhou Yun asked. ”Why?”

Wen Bing said, ”Because his past works are mostly serious and upright in style, rarely involving such fantastical creation.”

”Who is it?”

”It’s Kang Xin.”

Zhou Yun’s eyes widened.

”Director Kang?” She never expected Wen Bing to suggest Kang Xin’s name.

Wen Bing said, ”I’ve always thought Director Kang Xin’s films have many strokes of genius. Like in ’Heart Inquiry,’ the scene where you saved Song Chi and lived in the small courtyard with him was splendidly shot. Just that small yard felt isolated from the world, like a little world belonging only to the two of you. That bit of earthly truth felt timeless, recalling the saying of losing track of time in the mountains. When I saw your scene, it captured a timeless beauty, especially the night scene. It was pitch dark, with only a fire and starlight overhead. Beneath the eaves, one of you sat in the yard, the other stood under the eaves, talking—captured so beautifully. I think Director Kang Xin’s kind of cinematic aesthetics would be incredibly romantic in a mythological film.”

It was quite magical; Zhou Yun found she quickly understood what Wen Bing meant.

Moreover, after Wen Bing’s explanation, Zhou Yun suddenly felt that Director Kang Xin might indeed be suitable.

Zhou Yun pondered and said, ”Alright, why don’t you help connect us, and I’ll reach out to them proactively? If possible, I’ll also talk to Director Kang to see if we can make this collaboration happen.”

”Okay,” Wen Bing nodded.

Zhou Yun continued, ”Besides directing the movie ’Female Assassin’ for New Shield, are you working on anything else?”

”They’re hoping I’ll direct the sequel to ’Two Tigers,’ but that’s only if the box office results of ’Two Tigers’ are good,” Wen Bing said. ”When Yao Yuanfeng first signed me, he believed my directorial style would make such action films visually appealing.”

”He didn’t expect you’d have quite a knack for directing romance films like ’Life,’ did he?” Zhou Yun laughed.

”Indeed, he also wants me to direct a sequel to ’Life,’ but I refused,” Wen Bing shrugged. ”However, he seems to be finding someone else to direct ’Life 2.’ Even with a new crew, it could still do well at the box office.”
